One of Serena’s breakthrough matches. Quite stunning that at 17 she could play so well vs one of the all-time greats. Serena and the other top players of the late 90s early 2000s really brought women’s tennis to a different level.
Amazing match from two GOATs!
The GOAT and the GO21C!
@@carrerau713823-22 dont cry so hard, take this 🍲 for feel better, It calls graf soup 1999 Indian Wells finale
That was a nice gesture at the end from steffi. Maybe she already know how good serena is gonna be in the future
No, Steffi was always nice towards young and upcoming players.
@@carrerau7138yes, specially Mónica seles 😂😂😂
@@thisp666 No, Steffi always had problems with opponents who had problems with the truth.
Yes, she knew Serena played well and she lost to a better player. Think Steffi knew Serena would be great in the future
@@marfu1119 In early 1999 everybody thought that the 00s would be dominated by Hingis and Venus. Serena was just the little sister. Serena was narrowly better than Steffi that day; a few weeks later Steffi also lost to Julie Halard in Berlin.
TWO WOMEN LEGEND TENIS
Wwwwooooo!!! At last just telling sthing simple and true! Thx guy..
So many people still arguing who/who/who…bothers me…
Serena was a level higher than everyone else
Best slice backhand ever
Graf not used to be forced to defend this much. Clearly overpowered by Serena
Her record vs power players in general was tight and Serena was definitely the most efficient out of the lot even at this age and little experience she showed it.
@@paigehere5176 in this match she was clearly overpowered. She’s always on the defense, which was awesome btw
Steffi not at her peak but she still played well against Serena. Meanwhile Serena of 1999 was better than Serena of 2019.
@@rajusaha855 that’s just a lie. Serena of 2019 would beat 1999 Serena.
@@JCole-fg3rr yes, Serena of 1999 would beat Serena of 2019 just the same way Steffi of 1988/1989 or 1995/96 would beat Steffi of 1999.
Outsliced ✅ Outsmarted ✅ Out-served ✅ Overpowered ✅ Outfinessed ✅ All as a TEENAGER against the then-record holder (who tried causing a scene from the very first clone line call)
Not everybody can be as classy as Serena. BTW, Steffi won the GOLDEN SLAM as a TEENAGER. Serena even cracked under the pressure of a normal Grand Slam. And that’s why Steffi wins all those GOAT polls.
Lol. In your wildest dream
@@carrerau7138 Is he talking about Serena against Andrescu or Osaka, both in their debut slam finals? Yes! Seems about right. Lets not even bring up the Vinci choke, let alone Clijsters semi or the Stosur final.
Po Steffi to Serena od samego początku została moją idolką tenisa Pań do dziś i na zawsze ! 🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🇵🇱
I think Steffi knew this was going to be her last season on tour. She played with so much more joy than she had in the past as if a weight was off of her shoulders and she could just play freely. Steffi was not known for her sportsmanship or taking losses well at all and here she really gave a lot of credit and good will to a future legend. I think Steffi saw a lot of herself in 17 year old Serena williams as Graf won her first GS at 17 years old and where she won her first GS was where she won her last GS 12 years later at Roland Garros in 1999. Really good sporting Gesture on Graf's part. Serena was so cute, she didn't know the european way of doing a kiss on both sides of the cheek yet so she kind of got lost in the moment.
The only 2 players that forced Steffi to defend her game so much was Serena and Monica Seles🤯😳
Sabatini beat Steffi 11 times, Navratilova 9 times. Seles 5 times, Serena once (an over-the-hill Steffi with a reconstructed knee).
@@carrerau7138 I see you under every comment lauding Serena replying with stats and figures absolutely nobody has asked for. Yet here you are calling others snowflakes. You can't handle people praising Serena(while they are not even dissing Steffi's game, like this comment), but then you imply that others have something personal against Steffi and that they hate her . Yet again you are here calling others hypocrites when you're indirectly hating on other players. Do you even realize what you're doing? Get a life, grow some balls. Steffi's legacy doesn't deserve salty fans like you who can't stay neutral when another player is being lauded, you just think that whenever someone is compared to Steffi or is being praised, they are hating on Steffi. Just how old are you?
@@carrerau7138 Who later won the FO - so wasn't quite "Over-the-hill". Poor comparison with Sabatini and Martina... tbh
@@ald4425 Steffi WAS over the hill in 1998/99. Won only 4 titles but had 18 losses. Won only 1 of 5 slams. In 1995/96 she won 16 titles and had only 6 losses. Won 6 of 6 slams. A brutal decline. That‘s what a reconstructive knee surgery makes with you.
@@carrerau7138 But my point is she still won the next GS. And to put it more bluntly, Serena here wasn't at her peak either. So both weren't at their peaks. However Serena still won this match and became the won with the most GS's in the open era.
Appreciate the highlights. But, where is the score?
Peace all over the world ! Sport, tennis, and two great athleates to watch.. and to learn from. Stop would could should…please, it’s been a while now…do u really think they read u here? Go on..
Great close match between two great players. Neither player able to dominate the other.
Not among Steffi‘s 500 best matches for sure. Was her 6th tournament loss in a row.
R U INSANE. U STAND CORRECTED. SERENA KICKED HER ASS WHERE WERE U??????
Close???? White folks always Want to white wash black history SMMFH
@@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753 Serena won 63 36 75. That may be “ass-kicking“ in the Serena universe. After all she won only 73 of 240 tournaments she played (disastrous stats for an alleged all-time great). Steffi fans have higher standards.
@@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753 ur bonkers
I've never seen Graf move around like that
Yes, a shadow of her heyday. Sad!
Just like Nadal, Steffi was always incredulous, stubborn and rude when a player hit a good shot on the line
What??? 😂
I think Steffi is most like to Federer🤔
I think one of the biggest problems is that certain matches get over exposed so much that you thought that was the only match they played at that tournament
Not sure what you are talking about. This is an all time classic match between the two GOATs. No such thing as over-exposing this match. I’d reckon most avid tennis fans still HAVENT seen or heard of this match
What exactly do you mean by that? There's always going to be matches that stick out at certain tournaments. That's why they're called classics. Plus, this was the championship match.
@@bryanmartin5901 This is most certainly not an “all-time classic match. Steffi was lightyears away from her peak, lost 8 tournaments in a row before her miraculous FO win.
@@carrerau7138 it doesn’t matter what you think about Steffi’s level. This is one of only two official meetings between the two single best female tennis players in the history of sport. It went 3 sets, had a TON of variety of shot making, and a 17 year old with 0 grand slam titles beat the then-record holder in GS count, at the Indian wells final, basically the biggest championship in tennis outside the slams. It is undoubtedly an all time classic match. You being butt hurt that an inexperienced Serena beat a less-than-prime Steffi does not change the fact that it’s an all time classic and historic encounter, that was wildly entertaining. Plus, Serena was nowhere near her best either, she hadn’t even played 100 matches on tour yet.
@@bryanmartin5901 It matters a lot that Steffi was in the middle of a 8-tournament loss run. Her worst run since 1985, the year when she turned 16. Steffi played many all-time classic matches, this was not one of them. Maybe you don‘t understand what “all-time“ means. It is a longer period than the short time you have been following women‘s tennis. And/or misunderstand the term “classic“.
So much fun to watch.. Serena's Serve was a revolution at that time. As well as Graf's forehand. Both shots unachieved.
If seles wasnt stabbed she would got 20 slams and steffi just 14 slams
@@awsetyo1797 Which 8 slams would Steffi not have won and why? And this is the moment when Selestial cowards like you always run for cover…. 😂
@@awsetyo1797Well, coward - no answer? Thought so…
The changing of the guard. Serena was just too much for Steffi.
When Steffi retired on August 13th, 1999, Serena was not even top 10. Steffi was #3. So I don’t know what you are blabbering about.
Um...you do u know that you are basically saying Serena beat Steffi even though Serena has not developed to her best yet.....LOL
@@cindyng8239 And Sybille Bammer is 2-0 H2H against Serena. Both Henin and Capriati are 4-3 win/loss against Serena in slams. Sanchez and Osaka have winning records against Serena. 😆 How bigoted must someone be who really claims that Serena won her slams against better competition than Steffi had.
Typical Graf lunatics that can’t even read
If steffi lived in serena era she just got not more than 10 slams ... lol
I liked the way they were at the net kissing each other
Serena is GOAT❤❤❤
No one outside the USA or Africa thinks so.
Steffi the best ,,,
Serena was proud of this win beating Steffi Graf in a final at a big tournament. She won the US Open that same year at only 17 years old just after Graf retired. She went on to win more Grand slams than Steffi graf and if it wasn't for injures she would of won more grand slam titles.
How many more slams would have Steffi won if she had had a body that could have carried her on the tour until age 40?
@@carrerau7138 yeah true, but people are saying that Steffi only won 22 grand slams because of what happened to Monica Seles. Serena faced more tougher and talented opponents in her career and era.
@@marfu1119 For most of her career Serena faced only clowns. She had only good opponents until early 2008. At that point she had won only 8 of her 23 slams. Which tough and talented opponents are you fantasizing about?
@@carrerau7138 Serena won 8 of her 23 slams by 2008 because she was injured alot around that time and was in an out of the game 2003-2006. Also, the competition was strong compare to Graf. Serena faced more tougher opponents during that time with players like Venus, Henin, Sharapova, Clijsters, Capriati, Mauresmo and other players like Davenport and Hingis which she leads the head to head record against them. In Steffi era she only had Seles, Sanchez to compete with. Steffi never had lots of injury problems in her young career the way Serena did. Serena era was much more physically demanding as players was playing at a much higher level in the early 2000's compare to the 1980's, 1990's which Graf dominated.
@@carrerau7138 They were some good players after 2008 that came up like Jankovic, Ivanovic, Kvitova, Azarenka, Li Na and Kuznetsova. I would say Steffi faced clowns too throughout her career apart from Seles, Sanchez, or Sabatini. These players weren't as strong they never had serve or as fast the way players did in Serena era. Players that are competing now would easily beat Graf at her peak.
Haha, for those who claim steffi was the greatest just watch this and imagine a boxing match between them-steffi wouldnt survive.
It would be Ali vs. Foreman reloaded. Steffi playing rope-a-dope.
@@carrerau7138 And still serena would gripp her, leaving steffi without teeths.
@@user-kw8ff9ne8l Serena? Who LOST in more slams than Steffi ever played? Who won only 73 tournaments even though she played 240 (a disastrous number!)? Don’t be asinine. 😂
@@carrerau7138 I know for a racist its hard to accept, that a black woman debunks an aryan, but it is a matter of facts.
@@user-kw8ff9ne8l For a racist it is hard to accept that a PoC doesn’t get bonus points for being a PoC. BTW, have fun with all the GOAT polls in the next years…. 😂
Finally steffi madam had a genuine competition after seles stabbing..No wonder she retired this year? If me not rong..
After the Seles stabbing Steffi played 10 slam finals against Sanchez, Seles, Hingis, Davenport and won 8 of them. She retired in August 1999 because she had beaten them all in slams in the previous weeks - Davenport, Seles, Hingis, Venus and “had nothing left to accomplish“. Whereas those players all were only roadkill at the end of their careers. Especially the Williams sisters are a sad case, they craved the lime light so much that they damaged they legacy by tons of embarrassing losses to third-rate players.
BTW, Serena was not even top 10 on the day Steffi retired.
@@carrerau7138serena was a top 10 player a lot before, after she beat ur fav 🤣, she Will make the final Also on Miami and Lost to venus and Next week she makes her top 10 debut at #9 🥵🍲
@@thisp666At this point certainly no one had Serena on the radar. She was already 17.5 years old and ranked only around #10. But a few years later Steffi, Seles and Hingis were gone, Venus had Sjögren‘s disease - the path was cleared.
@@carrerau7138 Hingis retire at 2003 and then comeback in 2005-2006 and retire for singles at 2007 but fully retire a lot of years later, davenport was gone by 2008, steffi run away as you.know because she was losing a lot to new gen and well serena become the Queen of tennis and seles retire at 2003(she make all 4 quaterfinals in 2002 so she was not so bad as christ ever in 1989) and i can continúe forever, serena IS just the better player, graf have a good run but that damage to Mónica always Will Mark graf career, have a great year and i Hope Next year you keep commenting on serena videos, never stop please, we need people stppid like you for more views 🤣😂
serena williams era piu forte di stefy due braccia da uomo
With a weak backhand, steffi's not gonna survive in serenas era.
Elegan vs masculine
11:38 Wow I love Serena but sometimes don't like her attitude... Instead of appreciating her opponent, she looks at Steffi as if she has done something wrong 😔👎
You can get the girl out of the ghetto. But never the ghetto out of the girl.
