Coming from being beaten by Martina in Rome, Steffi avenged the loss.
Steffi and Martina were my childhood tennis role models, so their matches were special for me. But I had not seen many of them until a few years ago. In the 90s, it was difficult to watch tennis on TV. They did not broadcast the matches, except for the finals. I had to buy the paper called Sport to see the results.
Steffi and Martina ❤
Enjoy!
Hingis several years after basically wrote off Steffi as "too old". Graf then taught her a lesson in humility at Roland Garros 1999, beating the brat in the final. Hingis would never win a grand slam ever again.
Yes i remember that match and I started hating disliking Hingis even more after that for not having respect for a legend. Hingis never really got ovr Graff, she wanted what Graff conquered and well deserved and achieved, however Hingis was a spoilt bitch.
Yeah. Hingis shows her ego from 1997.
Hingis threw that match away, she had control was on her way to winning then threw a tantrum,Steffi came back and out played,I'll bet MH has never forgotten her arrogance cost her winning all 4 Slams for a career slam
@@jmnny85 utterly atrocious comment. threw that match away??? ha ha ha. on grass, Hingis just does not have the goods to defeat Graf. she had greater chances on clay. but grass? are you blind? control??? laughable.
FACTS.
At 03:08 the umpire calls the wrong score. This is the same umpire that wrongly awarded a point to Karolina Sprem against Venus Williams in 2004!
0:53 is an incredible forehand from Graf. In future, that depth of shot from Hingis would trouble a lot of opponents. Not Steffi, though, who just dismisses it.
Struck beautifully by Graf. Thank you for highlighting that.
Steffi beat her in Philadelphie at the end of 98 6/1 4/6 6/0and barely lost to her in the Tokyo qf at the begining of 99 just coming back from injury…
Steffi lost the Tokyo match after leading Hingis in the 3rd set when she injured herself.
Hingis would've never become number 1 in the world if Graf didn't get injured. Martina Hingis was skilled, crafty & a good athlete but not as great as Steffi Graf.
Yes ! 😊
Would have, should have, could have. Hingis did win a couple of Grand Slams in which Graf competed. It´s not her fault Steffi lost in the earlier rounds so they didn´t meet.
@@fundhund62Both Seles and Hingis owe their slams to Steffi‘s woes - nasty scandals and tons of injuries. That Steffi won only 14 of the 40 slams played in the 1990s is a cruel joke.
🤣
@@samprovenzanorptr Even a clearly over-the-hill Steffi with a reconstructed knee owned Chucky in 1998/99.
I miss Graf’s style of play so much
I'd say the tournament organisers do as well, so quick to dispatch opponents - I remember an interview with the late great Jana Novotna jokingly saying that the girls in the locker room never spoke in terms of how many games they might win against Steffi but if they could last over an hour against her.
@@mohawk393939 Interestingly Steffi won 13 slam finals in 3-set matches. By far the most in the history of women's tennis.
3:20 the umpire gets the score wrong. Isn’t this the same umpire who infamously got the tiebreak score wrong in the Venus Sprem 2004 Wimbledon match?
Hingis brilliance is already very evident here!!!
Unbelievable to think that the next year Hingis would be already number 1 ahead of Graf 😂 she certainly improved but still it can be said she got very lucky, history would say so
True. But Steffi struggled with injuries in 1997 and called off her season after the 4th loss to Amanda Coetzer at the FO that year.
I can't imagine why Hingis never really liked Graf. (sarcasm)
look like there playing 2 different sports, Graf is the best athlete I have ever seen, it is a joke now.
Umpire Ted played a part in a Venus loss, terrible call during her match,he also affected Mary Jo Fernandez's match years earlier
Imagine having one shot that can be a put away shot every single time....Hingis did not have that in her arsenal.
Steffi is the greatest female player of all time.
At least hinges did well against graf at Wimbledon compare to Monica who narrowly escaped the double bagel😂😂😂😂
Hingis surely was a better player than Seles (who is extremely overrated).
Graf ne savait faire que des revers slicés!? Je ne l'ai jamais vue jouer autre chose que des slices avec son revers !
Nope..during her early years ..she used her topspin back hand more often..mid of her career somewhere around 94-95..she still uses her topspin backhand mixed with slice backhand ..but at the end of her career..she uses slice backhand most the time
@@syaisa698 Ok, thanks for correction.😉
If you had the best sliced backhand in the world, wouldn't use it?
@@marky7755 Maybe to vary the shots?
@@Scorpius1 no problem at all.. just to let u know the variety of her backhand
