Makachev getting the credit he deserves here - his striking and overall ability to nullify Volk's game was very impressive in their last fight. That being said they call Alexander 'The Great' for a reason. He could go in there and employ an intelligent entry / read to rock Makachev and ground and pound him into a weakened condition for a later finish. Amazing fight - respect to both

@@vn5774 In the first fight Volk proved he was a sook that couldnt accept his unanimous loss. Now he is proving himself a liar acting all surprised. Yet in ufc290 post fight he said he will be training and getting ready for this fight.
I’m an Aussie and huge Volk fan.. Volk will have heaps more confidence in this fight, but what worries me is that so will Islam.
I think the mental aspect is big in this fight. Lots of people believe Volk won the first fight. I wonder what Islam thinks about Volk’s abilities and how the last fight went. I’m not saying he’s shaking in his boots but I do wonder how differently he may feel, especially knowing Volk is coming in with less pressure on him. Can’t wait.
Makhachev all the way. It's still insane and pathetic that people seriously argue Volkswagen won the 1st. He won the 5th round. Every other round was competitive but Makhachev had the edge over Volkswagen. Javier, Khabib and Makhachev will now have adjusted some things and Makhachev will win even more dominantly this time.
Islam went into the last fight thinking it’d be easy. He called Volk “little guy”. Then he almost lost in decision. Volk has the mental edge in this one he just needs to limit the amount of time Islam is able to hold him down and either do damage on the feet or on top.
@ItachiUchiha-ge6em it isnt necessarily that he won the match but people say he won the fight. The scoring in mma is awful and is reflective of a point based fighting system (ie boxing) and people are arguing that 1, it should be changed and 2, if it were more intrinsic to a mma fight then volk would have won. Islam did a lot of stalling and did low damage, where as volk came forward and Islam's face was mauled.
@@simplesplayground7871 you cannot be serious with saying Volk did more damage lmao. Islam dropped him on his knees, and arguably connected with heavier shots. Couple of times Volk fell backwards and was close to being knocked down. Happened to Islam only once. Volk even acknowledged some of islams heavy shots while islam never seemed impressed by Volks connections. You definitely have to rewatch the fight.
Respect Dan for keeping it real with how you scored the fight. A lot of people were judging the fight with the last minute of the fight and just because Islam looked human and Volk did better than expected, but that does not mean that he won. Gotta feel for Islam because he has been bashed a lot from that fight even though he defended his title in enemy territory and won. Khamzat vs Burns had a similar reaction from the fans where Khamzat didn’t look invincible for the first time and got criticized even though he won.
watching live i thought Volk won 3-2 , watching it later i thought Islam won 4-1. At best it was 3-2 Islam, I dont think Volk won that fight like how people claimed.

This fight is so good. I feel like a lot of fans and analysts are kind of blowing things up there. A lot of them seem to be thinking if Volk wins it's because he's some unstoppable monster of a man, and if Islam wins he's this juggernaut that can beat anyone. People need to understand that the reason we care about this fight is because it's the difference between 9.9 and 10. They're so evenly skilled, evenly experienced. If you put them against each other 10 times, if the results came back 5/5 I don't think anyone would argue that. Anyone saying one side would dominate the other every time is fully engulfed in bias. This fight is interesting because all it takes is one mistake and the other is skilled enough to take advantage of it. If Volk wins, credit to him. He managed to beat the only man recently who was able to stop him and got his revenge. If Islam wins, credit to him. He managed to beat someone who no one else has been able to conquer, again. Either way, I'd watch these two fight time and time again; regardless of who wins. And I'd never be able to be confident in who I thought would win.

Expect Makhachev to have much easier time in a rematch cause of better rehydration, not having to flight to hostile territory across the World, Volk not having full camp and Volk had a surgery recently. Makhachev has all the aces up his sleeve this time, Volk has his in #1. And even if its as close as their first fight was, nobody is upsetting sheikhs and princes in Abu Dhabi by dropping a split to Volk lol

I thought that the criteria was changed to where a take down was only a change of position if you don’t do anything with it. No damage or real submission threats make it basically worthless. Under that logic I had Volk winning the last fight.
The level of danger is way higher for Volk. It’s not like backwards punches are generating any power. Look at Islam’s face going into the fifth. (NOTHING ON IT) Volk is locked down in a body triangle with his back taken, can’t get up, or even break the position. He’s completely controlled and that is the most significant piece of the round. Volk wanted up and couldn’t because he was controlled period.

after rewatching the fight, it was 3-2 at leeeast and i'm pretty sure it was 4-1. not a whole lot happened. Volk kinda looked predictable/repetetive to me until the 5th round. a lot of ducking his head and hoping overhand shots land without much danger - but Islam simply kneed him and landed very nice check hooks. nothing too complex from Islam, just solid single strikes and great timing. Volk had some good moments where he was trying to pull off combos, and i think in a closer range exchange he'd do better... but he just couldn't really get/stay in range. I think Volk was holding back a little to avoid getting taken down into too bad of a position. i think in fight 2 if Volk is a bit more 'reckless' he might have more success. i believe he can win but i think Islam is still a moderate favourite here

Its a big ask to go up a weight class AND fight the best in the that division. Seems clear Volk could compete at that weight, but becoming champ is another matter.

I feel the same way I did when I initially watched it. Islam on points, but it was pretty clear who “beat up” the other guy more. Not that it matters in a round based system. Volk needs to win key moments and secure rounds early. He lost two rounds because he got his back taken. While Islam can hang in the standup, I don’t think he wants to nor can he for extended periods of time because Volk is able to inflict more damage. I see Islam trying to use more grappling to secure rounds again.

Volk did not "beat up" Islam. It's amazing how a final couple of minutes is all people will remember lol. Volk was constantly getting countered and outstruck on the feet the ENTIRE fight. Not once did he find his rhythm. And on the ground the best he did was get up. He wasn't offensive with his wrestling. He still got taken down and held there for some parts and an entire round. But Islam gets rocked the last minute and Volk gets in a few punches. That's all the "beating up" Volk could manage.

I think this second fight is going to be the style clash we all were expecting in the first and that kinda turned around. We expected Volkanovski to outstrike Islam, to set traps on the feet and land the cleaner shots. Instead, Islam knocked Volk down first and landed good strikes on Volk in the earlier rounds. We expected Islam to take Volk down and slowly drown him to a submission, and instead we got a very good defensive wrestling from Volkanovski and no real submission threats from Islam. So I’m sure they’ve both addressed the issues in their strong aspects of the game. I think this time Volk will be superior on the striking department. He found success with some combos in the later rounds and he’s probably drilled them and found new openings. But I also think Islam will have found a way to threaten Volk in the ground and he’s probably worked on taking down shorter opponents. It’s such a shame it’s on short notice, tho. Such a high level fight should only happen when both fighters are in the best conditions.

Volk got a bit too much extra credit on that first meeting with Islam. He did SO much better then anyone expected, and he exposed Islam for being human. Was the first time we didn't see him dominate the opponent he was fighting. That said, when you turn the volume down and watch that fight in the absence of emotion. It's so clear that Islam was the better fighter that day. Anyone who says differently needs to either watch more Mixed Martial Arts, or learn to detach from their emotions a bit more. This next meet, I expect Islam to be a MUCH harder opponent, he is going to look for a finish. He wants to put this rivalry to bed. I think the energy Volk had in the 5th he wont have this time cause he is going to push the pace MUCH HARDER much sooner. This is the ONLY shot he has at taking home a W. They are both the most elite in the organization IMO, but I think Islam is the better of the two fighters. Its not a popular opinion but its quite objective in my view. One this for sure, we as fans win no matter what when these 2 meet! Enjoy..

I disagree, Islam might have barely edged the fight, but he ended it on his back getting whooped. Not “clearly” better on the night at all. If we didn’t have such a sped scoring system then it would have been a different story.
While I do agree that Islam quite clearly won the first fight, I don't agree with your second paragraph and I don't know how you can call it "objective". I think Volk took a lot from the first fight and knowing he can match Islam in strength and survive the grappling with him is huge. If they both had a full training camp, I belive Volk would have the upper hand. He knows he can deploy leg kicks, he can push a harder pace, not worry too much about submissions and mix in some Wrestling of his own. For Islam I don't know if he has the same obvious improvements He can make. He has been pushed for the first time, which is obviously a big experience for him, but tactically I don't think he gained as much as Volk did. But Volk taking this fight in short notice I truly don't know. Islam being bigger and in better fight shape will probably be the deciding factor here.

The thing that worries me as a volk fan is that, their first fight happened in australia where the fight happened 24 hrs after weigh-in (we all know the IV saga) Unlike other places or in dubai where the fight happens about 40hrs after weigh-in, so islam is coming in more conditioned and bigger and even more hydrated

As an mma fan to be able to see such great fighters go at it for a rematch after a classic first fight. I’m sooo disappointed this is a short notice fight. I would have loved to see what these two bring with full camps preparing for each other.

Islam will be 4-5 pounds heavier this time. People do not realize how important it is.
In Australia he had 12 hours less than usual between the weigh-in and the fight. Therefore, he had the lowest weight of his career in the octagon.
Being heavier is not important at all, it will make you slower and less mobile on the ground, you lose flexibility with weight. Though it will add power to your striking I admit. Makhachev is no slouch but this time he will most likely get knocked out or dominated. Volk is a much better version of himself after what he learned in the first fight, Makhachev is the same or worse due to inactivity. The only question mark and the only hope for Makhachev is Volk’s gas tank.
Actually most MMA fans in the know absolutely know how important it is, Huge volk fan but Islam will in my opinion be to much and get a finish this time round!!

I think Volk have seen something or has worked on things he seems confident and I don’t know why he would take this fight now if he didn’t imo
I'm an Aussie and a Volks fan (but I'm also a realist based on facts and not emotions), but I think he'll only win this via knockout, in the 1st 3 rounds. If it goes to 4-5th round, as good as Volks cardio is, I don't think he'll be ready. Other things that are against Volks are the jetlag, adapting to the heat/temperature in Abu Dhabi, a 11 day fight camp, recovering from his surgery and fight taking place in "enemy" territory. Pros for Islam are he's been in Abu Dhabi for over a month already, so zero jetlag or need to adapt to the temperature. He'll be fully hydrated this time and has had a full camp under Khabib's and Javier's watchful eye. He'll be in "home" territory. Islam will be motivated to not lose in front of this crowd. Islam won't allow this fight to go to the 4th or 5th round. Islam will try to finish Volks, by either knockout or submission as early as possible. My heart wants Volks to win, so we get the trilogy, but facts and data suggest Islam will have this fight in the bag.

Haha I'm still riding the high from that Sean Strickland fight. I usually box one of my buddies in the backyard once a week, and after that I started copying Sean Strickland's style, and holy shit its been amazingly effective haha, still working on it, but its surprisingly effective and easy to emulate, I just keep my right hand a little higher and tighter than Sean does because I'm doing boxing.

Yeah, he made a good point. Islam needs to try out different submissions besides the arm triangle on Volk. Maybe do a leg lock when Volk is doing ground and pound standing up like last time. But again.. being short plays to his advantage too, let's not forget that.

I think the last fight Makachev underestimated Volks really bad and didn't play like he fought charles and many opponents which he always fight conservatively.
Islams got 12 hrs extra time to rehydrate which will only help islam to push a pace more this time, especially with volk coming in short notice, i see islam winning but heart wants volk to get it done (wanted volk to win tje first fight too)

I dont see Volk getting caught in a triangle twice, or even once this time and that is what saved him for the most part
Something i've not seen anyone pick up on is Makhachev kept missed a lot his check right hook with his lead hand as Alex came in to striking distance within the pocket. It feels to me like that check right hook is something he's drilled so many times it's hard for Islam to train himself out of the habit, and may be a small detail but potentially a vital key in how Volk might get the better of him, because the height turned out to be an advantage for Volk a lot of times as he was slipping under that hook amongst other punches. If Islam incorporates uppercuts and counter knees then could be a different story. Having said all that, if Volk doesn't keep good head movement, bobbing weaving dipping as he's going forward into close range, Islam's got that nasty counter left straight that could drop Volk very easily. If Islam decides to counter with that crazy fast drop into a takedown, could frustrate and tire out Volk and maybe by the 3rd round Islam might finish him, maybe via submission. If Volk had a full training camp i don't think islam could submit him but now, i can see it happening. I hope Volk does incorporate more leg kicks like Dan said, give Islam more to think about and weaken Islam's stance and movement.

The Islam volk rematch deserved volk having a full training camp. Those two at their best is such a good, evenly matched fight and I feel that if volk loses this one as well that Islam will see no point in giving him another match.

So to sum up, compared to last time Islam has; - longer period since last fight - Better and longer fight camp, with Khabib - "Home turf" advantage - Shorter travel times - Longer acclimatisation and rehydration period. Volk, meanwhile has; - fought Yair at 145 3 months ago - had hand surgery 2 months ago - less time to correctly bulk up for 155, looks noticeably less athletic - at best, an 8 day fight camp And this is on top of Volk being the smaller fighter, and having lost last time. How the fighters, the UFC or anyone else trying to build this up as a competitive fight is beyond me.

Islam is going to come in way more conditioned/recovered since he’s not dealing with the strenuous travel and time change. I think this could play a huge factor in the later rounds

We know Volk is incredible in rematches, all 3 Max fights he shows clear progression. Not sure how Islam or their camp (Khabib) handle rematches as nobody has ever warranted a rematch, because they won in such dominant fashions.

Islam looks like he’s had a good healthy (as can be) weight cut. He didn’t look anywhere near as depleted at the weigh ins as he usually does. I think that could play a big factor and we can see an Islam at full capability. Which is a scary thought. Love both of em so I’m happy whoever wins but just can’t see Islam not getting it done.
Islam clearly won on his bad day. Hes gonna be dominant this time no doubt.
