The original Devil May Cry left a monumental impact on the entire action game genre. Even if you aren’t a massive fan of Dante’s first outing, you’d be hardpressed to find any game that had the same look and feel, especially back in 2001. It was an action game where the main goal wasn’t to just clear out rooms of enemies, but instead, you were encouraged to look as cool as possible while doing so. This was facilitated through the in-game ranking system since you were rewarded currency to upgrade your character depending on the end-stage rank. This incentive helped encourage players to really master the game’s mechanics and to find creative ways to go to town on the enemies. While there were some cracks in the execution, Devil May Cry 1 had a solid foundation that was ripe to be expanded upon in a sequel. However, Devil May Cry 2 wasn’t exactly that sequel. It’s no secret that DMC 2 isn’t well-liked by the player base. Attacks were sluggish and lacked any impact. Dante was drained of all of the charisma that made him memorable. The weapon selection is laughable. And overall, the game is just painfully dull and isn’t something that I want to play again anytime soon. I’m pretty sure this is stuff you’re all already aware of, so why did I bring this up? The answer is quite simple.
Devil May Cry 3 - 17 Years Later
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is a 2005 action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom. The game is a prequel to the original Devil May Cry, featuring a younger Dante. Set a decade before the events of the first Devil May Cry in an enchanted tower, Temen-ni-gru, the story centers on the dysfunctional relationship between Dante and his brother Vergil. The game introduces combat mechanics with an emphasis on combos and fast-paced action. The story is told primarily in cutscenes using the game's engine, with several pre-rendered full motion videos.
Devil May Cry 3 was released in February and March 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and ported to Microsoft Windows in June and October 2006. It was widely praised by critics, hailing it as a return to form for the series, yet did receive some criticisms for its high level of difficulty in the North American release. It was re‐released in 2006 as Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, featuring retooled difficulty levels, the addition of mid-mission checkpoints, "GOLD mode", and Vergil as a playable character. Combined sales of both versions were over 2.3 million. It has been cited as one of the greatest video games of all time.
A 2005 manga prequel to Devil May Cry 3's storyline was published in Japan and later the United States.

Devil May Cry 3 - 17 Years Later is the best video I've made. Devil May Cry HD is the current best way to play the original DMC 1. The Devil May Cry HD Collection has a few graphical hiccups but DMC 3 HD is a massive improvement over the original Devil May Cry 3. While this DMC 3 review isn't a Devil May Cry HD Collection review, it's the place to be if you want to see nam's compendium start his DMC retrospective
