    • Developing games must have been a lot harder back then. Back in the day, game graphics and the technologies used were changing pretty fast. The graphical changes from ps1 to ps2 to ps3 were insane. So Capcom must have spent a lot of money catching up to the newest stuff. Resident Evil 5 came out a year after DMC 4. It looked amazing for the time, although it was incredibly boring compared to the previous entry. So that must have been so much money down the drain. I'm just glad that today there are way cheaper and faster tools to make games. A small group of people can develop amazing games with cheap tools. Which is why we see so many indie companies bringing better games than the giants that existed for decades.

    • @@pedroportela6476 My personal headcanon is that after the events of DMC1 Vergil (now released from his Nelo Angelo form) was stuck in Hell and wandered around there, constantly battling, not getting a moment of rest, to the point that his body started to break apart. He didn't have the Yamato, so most of his fights were with either his fists or improvised weapons, constantly relying on his Devil Trigger to the point that his human side couldn't handle anymore. Since he didn't have the Yamato, he couldn't get out either by using its portal powers... Then, in DMC4, they use the Yamato to open the Hell Gate and Vergil senses this. He manages to escape Hell through one of the Hell Gates and looks for the Yamato, but in the chaos (and with his body being at its limit) he can't find it in time. He wanders around on foot, his connection to the Yamato basically acting as a beacon, and being driven by his sole purpose to regain his strength. His human body can't handle it anymore and breaks apart (which is why he looks like a half-Thanos snapped husk when we see him in DMC5) and just when he's about to die, Nero isn't on a mission, at home, taking care of the DMC Mobile Unit Van, and Vergil can reclaim his weapon and save himself. It mirrors the lyrics in "Bury the Light", which goes over Vergil's journey from the end of DMC3 all the way to DMC5 (and potentially beyond).

  • I read long ago that Nero was meant to absorb each demon boss' soul into his devil bringer to give him new weapons and move sets like his devil breakers in DMC5. Like the Yamato appears on his right hand? Berial's sword would appear like a Buster sword with heavier hits and give Nero fire damage. And Dante was definitely meant to have his own bosses names after the devils arms he acquires. Story wise a lot of what ended up in the novels, was meant to be in the game, like more background on Nero, and the Vergil's son revelation was supposed to have more scenes where Dante gives Nero his own Neon sign and some dialogue with Trish (if I'm not mistaken) to their suspicion to Nero's parentage, which would be a reveal that players would be like "ah we were right. No wonder he has demonic powers and quotes the legend himself".

  • My favorite thing about Nero, in DMC 4 AND 5, is that he is THE quintessential "Son of Sparda". (I know, technically grandson, but bear with me) Vergil despised his weak humanity, believing that demonic power was all that mattered, and was all that was needed. He wanted to obtain power to prevent the tragedy of his mother's death from ever happening again, but in doing so, he falls into the belief that might is right. Dante, on the other hand, initially rejected his demonic heritage. Throughout most of his life that we see of him, he's always obnoxious, carefree, and quick with a joke, but that to cover up that he's hurting on the inside, knowing that half of his blood is the same as those that took away his mother, and eventually brother as well. He hates demons, to the point that he seems to even hate himself. Nero, however... Nero understands that he is who he is. He's not a demon, he's not a human. He's just Nero, and that's all he needs to be. Yes, he seeks power like Vergil, but unlike Vergil, Nero is willing to give up that power once he is finished using it to protect those he cares about. Nero is essentially the closest we will get to seeing Sparda's ideology first hand; The desire to protect, through justice, not vengeance. Another thing that I love about DMC 4 is that, during the song "Never Surrender", There's a spot where you'll hear two voices, one human and feminine, the other demonic and masculine, speaking as if they were announcing their vows. It is my solid belief and headcanon that these voices are meant to be those of Sparda and Eva themselves, reciting their wedding vows.

    @VulxaniSolas@VulxaniSolas Жыл бұрын
    • Cool and important extra detail about that comparison, Nero seems close to, but is ultimately unable to reach that revelation because of the persecution he faces both from the church and himself for most of the game. It's only through Kyrie's reassurance that he's able to truly accept himself and her love for him, up until that point he seems hesitant to be close with her, especially considering his arm. If he acts as a good analog for Sparda, being the balance between human and devil, then I think it's safe to say that Kyrie is probably a lot like Eva. It's also one of the few actual things Kyrie does in the story besides get kidnapped, so I think it's important to recognize her place in Nero's arc.

Although she did not help Nero's fight directly like Nico did, when Nero feels lost and uncertain of himself, she is the one who he turns to. And with just few words and showing mental support, she make Nero find the determination to do what's right. It's clear that Kyrie plays an important role on making Nero the man he become.

  • 38:49, I would like to open a small parenthesis regarding the weapons that Dante obtains once the major demons that are linked to the Hell Gates have been beaten. I want to start by saying that during the first meeting between Nero and Agnus, the latter explained to the boy that he used powerful demonic weapons to energize the copies of the original Hell Gate that he himself created. In the novel "Devil May Cry 4 - Deadly Fortune", it is said that Gloria (Trish) did not carry only the sword Sparda into the hands of the Order, but the woman also brought three demonic weapons which she first stole from Dante (which turn out to be Gilgamesh, Pandora and Lucifer), and consequently helping Agnus with his goals. Practically, in this game Dante doesn't get any demonic weapons from the souls of the bosses he defeats (as for example happens in DMC3), but he will simply take back his old weapons which he obtained in the past by defeating the related demons and which were taken away from him! This also explains why the various weapons appear from the Hell Gates and not from the major demons! In any case, it was very enjoyable to watch this video, and the time passed very quickly! Good job! I know very well that this is not a perfect game and that it will certainly not be a truly complete product either, but as a kid it was for me one of the most important games (along with DMC3SE) ever! I have literally spent many years watching any kind of video about this game, also knowing many people who shared my same passion! I also remember that I was always delighted while watching the videos of those people who completed the missions doing "S Rank No Damage", not to mention how incredulous I was and got very excited while watching the "Combo MAD" videos that people like Tizza, cedrus0511, his1nightmare, Brea, donguri990 and many others published showing us their incredible combos! For me they were really beautiful moments, to which I learned a lot of things and that will always be part of me! P.S.: I really ask forgiveness for my bad English, but sadly it's not my main language!

  • This game is very special to me, when it came out it was days b4 or after my birthday, can’t recall exactly. Here in Wisconsin it was a crazy blizzard that night and my mom and dad drove out to get me a copy and drop it off to my house as a suprise. At that time things were going bad in my marriage, I was a new dad to a perfect little girl and struggling to pay all the bills especially the rent on the house my wife at the time NEEDED to move into. I’ll never forget seeing the headlights growing brighter against the snow watching out the front room picture window. It was my parents car and out ran my mom, trudging thru the quickly rising snow. It was after 9pm so it was completely dark out. It was so silent outside the only sounds were from the wind gusts and snow hitting the windows and siding. I opened the door to greet her I could hear the crunch of the snow under her feet in every step. She was bundled up but glowing with anticipation of giving me my suprise birthday gift. I get emotional just thinking about it as I write this. My parents have always gone to great lengths to make me and my sisters happy and I now I do the same for my own daughter. The game has it flaws but for me…it’s absolutely perfect.

  • DMC4 is not perfect, but it's still a damn good game. It'd probably be more well-received had it not followed up the masterpiece that was the third game. However, a few problems stand out to me that weren't mentioned in the video: 1. While the game is normally good at bringing new players up to speed, as mentioned, it forgets to do this when you first play as Dante. You're suddenly given a massive and new movelist, and the mission's on a time limit so you have to learn as you go. While I'm sure this was fine for returning players, it's quite jarring for a new player. I myself started with DMC4 (I was mostly a PC player, so I had the choice of DMC4 or the horrid port of DMC3), so I got stuck on this level for a while until I adjusted through the trial by fire. 2. The enemy design in many places feels a bit too limiting in some areas. Rather than enemies that leave you free for expressive and stylish combos, many (most irritatingly the Blitz) require you to follow a specific formula to defeat, which always brings down the game when you encounter them. The enemies don't always feel like they suit a DMC game as a result. Despite all this, the game is still solid, and I especially love the Special Edition with its added playable characters (even if they occasionally have issues with the game not feeling designed for them). And Dante and Nero's appearances here laid the groundwork for the absolutely incredible DMC5.

    @MikhailKutzow@MikhailKutzow4 жыл бұрын
    • I really disagree with point 2. The only enemies I can think of that are restricting are the Chimera and Blitz, outside of that the roster in DMC4 is probably the most solid it's ever been in the series

      @Dantarn@Dantarn4 жыл бұрын
    • @@Dantarn what about Fausts and Mephistos? They're pretty annoying because you need to shoot them to make them vulnerable, or counter attack a specific move. That's what's frustrating about a significant fraction of enemies in this game. There's at least 3-4 enemies that you need to shoot in order to "lower their shield" so you can actually melee them. This becomes very apparent in bloody palace when you're doing 3 rooms in a row that are full of Blitzs, Chimeras, and Mephistos

      @NickyPoundhers@NickyPoundhers4 жыл бұрын
    • @@NickyPoundhers Fausts are rough because the cloak has so much damn health but a single Rainstorm will take down Mephisto shroud even on DMD. As for Nero his Charge Shot is a fucking Resident Evil Rocket Launcher so he's fine there. But yeah, Fausts suck a fat one.

      @Dantarn@Dantarn4 жыл бұрын
    • @@Dantarn The Chimera and Blitz were the two main enemies I was thinking of, but they stand out so much to be worth mentioning. In a normal game they're mostly tolerable. However, the Special Edition worsens these problems by adding characters the game is absolutely not designed for. A Blitz goes from a pain in the ass for Dante and Nero to an absolute slog for Vergil. Meanwhile, Lady's focus on firearms mean she often makes short work of enemies that other characters struggle with. All that said, these enemies aren't enough to ruin the game. But as someone who frequents the Bloody Palace, they are as big a problem as the re-used areas in story mode. They lead to fights where I'm just glad things are over instead of feeling like a badass, something that I do not find as frequent in DMC3 or 5's enemy rosters.

      @MikhailKutzow@MikhailKutzow4 жыл бұрын
    • @@MikhailKutzow I just don't like 5's roster because none of the enemies are really that fun or engaging to fight. Sure you don't have any huge stinkers like Chimera but you don't have anything near the quality as fighting a pack of DMC4 Angelos

  • DMC4 is one of my favourite games of all time, in terms of just hack and slash action it literally cannot be defeated. I use DMC combat as the bar for measuring what combat should measure up to in games. Keep the enemy flying in the air with pistol fire? Unleash sweeping sword combos? Devil trigger? Legit nothing else even comes close to making you feel like an unstoppable badass. However I will say, the criticism towards replaying Nero's levels as Dante is valid and fair, but to me I still had more than enough fun because Dante's style carried it so hard that I didn't really mind playing it backwards, at least on my first attempt. I was more than happy to get new toys and fight the bosses again in a brand new way, and unlock more skills for Dante! Also the Dice game I really enjoyed, especially the boss rush one! In fact mission 19 is probably the one I replayed the most because you got to test your skills against all the bosses relatively quickly without having to run bloody palace or their own mission over again! I found the RNG of the dice game to be fun and offer variation when replaying the levels again and I didn't often get done in by it, like having to go back or whatever. DMC4 is such a power trip and holds up very well by today's standards. In fact, I prefer the art style to even DMC5! Look at Dante's Million stab on DMC4 and DMC5, and tell me 4 isn't better looking! And that's just one example. Imagine what it could have been if not for tight deadlines, wow!
