Lyrics
First sight of the first good morning since you’ve been out of town
First time any violet omens don’t shadow me around
So you want part of the great white tyrant, of ghost after ghost?
Well you won’t stop and I know you’ll find it, halfway down the coast
You were never afraid of fighting, you blame an angry god
And when you see the first sign of violence, you bear it all as hard
When you held her son and wept I just felt jealous most of all
The best I had was near as bad as the sign of the rising fall
Though we’re only alive a short while
So many beneath my feet
All weather, you walk with me
And you were off on a wandering mile
I was holding a weak excuse
I was heavy beneath blue
Now you’re off to Victor on his ladder to the sky
And I’m left to sing it with you from my piece of the waterside
And you sang for the lost and gone who were young, and deserving more
And now I’m stood upright all night ready when you come in the door
Though we’re only alive a short while
So many beneath my feet
All weather, you walk with me
And you were off on a wandering mile
I was holding a weak excuse
I was heavy beneath blue
All I heard
Wait for the word
You’re coming with me

Thanks for that, I really enjoy songs that have so much feelings in it.

    • Great comment. Worship of communists, who supported racist and homophobic murderers like Che Guevara no less, isn't worth anyone's praise, but Robin and his band are immensely talented musicians, and as a purely musical homage to another artist, this is a terrific track. • JSYK the plant on screen during JARA is not Valerian, that's queen anne's lace and has no medicinal use. In fact, it's a wild carrot that has almost no "carrot." [The plant that shows in the upper right corner is valerian, which looks similar, but can be used medicinally, so if you live in the pnw and see queen annes lace, it's not the same, don't eat it] On an unrelated note, I love that this film immediately acknowledges the first nations and native land that it was filmed on. I think that's really important to show right away. A lot of videos these days include land acknowledgments but not at the beginning. Thoughts?

They sound more traditionally uplifting ...like a release For me crack up was a masterpiece in its theme...very untraditionally sounding...and throughout gave me the feel of not being at peace...but also very uplifting in places I am looking forward to hearing shore Just to add.. Apparently this album is robin pecknold with other collaborations and not the rest of the band...due to lockdown restrictions

    @alannabonita8209@alannabonita82093 жыл бұрын
    • I wondered too. The flower in top right of the screen here is Valerian, but the patch in the film footage is Queen Anne’s Lace, which can be toxic. It bears resemblance to both Hemlock (a highly toxic plant used to make fatal poison) and Yarrow (a medicinal plant with a lot of references in traditional/folk songs). Just brainstorming here haha, not sure what the symbolism is intended to be in this song & album. My first thought was Robin’s reference to the also-poisonous Foxgloves in “Kept Woman.” Maybe dude just has a thing for pretty, poison petals.

      @MiloDC@MiloDC3 жыл бұрын
    • Actually, Robin explained the meaning of that: "I was looking up other meanings for Jara I was inspired by the Hebrew and Slavic meanings! The song is about empathy and a turn towards activism, so for the song title I was actually thinking of it as the Hebrew meaning just as much as it is Victor's last name. I loved that the meanings were so interactive with each other. I thought about a weird lyric like, In Jara Jara Jara'd, in spring victor enlightened, but too distracting / clumsy. Those meanings are in the background of it all though"
