Lyrics
All this time I’ve been hanging on
To an edge I caught when we both were young
That the world I want wasn’t near enough
All was distant, always off
In all that war I’d forgotten how
Many men might die for what I’d renounce
I was staging life as a battleground
No I let that grasping fall
May the last long year be forgiven
All that war left within it
I couldn’t, though I’m beginning to
And we only made it together
Feel some change in the weather
I couldn’t though I’m beginning to
Though it’s all so uncertain, cold
All the rafters cracked, all the copper sold
There’s a ration back in a manifold
If you need it or forgot
May the last long year be forgiven
All that war left within it
I couldn’t, though I’m beginning to
And we only made it together
Feel some change in the weather
I couldn’t though I’m beginning to
And somehow I see it’s free
And with love and hate in the balance
One last way past the malice
One warm day is all I really need
And with love and hate in the balance
One last way past the malice
One warm day is all I really need

    • It does. I still remember the first time I heard White Winter Hymnal and how I walked six miles to buy the album based on one song. Even though I was all the way on the east coast when I bought it, that album will always remind me of biking out west, with nothing but sun, wind and rain behind me. This track gives me the same feeling.

  • ... What a perfect encapsulation of coming to terms with life; to what it's been. The war, everything "always distant, always off".. The world/life many of us pine for seems almost impossible to ever attain.. In that notion, we begin to feel lost within, hopeless. And then "Somehow I see, it's free." Hope... Grace.. Light... Love. All we can ever do is begin... Begin to forgive, to believe, to feel again... Begin to open the folds of our hearts to this great unknown. .. May that one warm day wrap its arms around whoever needs it right now.

Almost 20 years later I've come full circle to land on this beauty. On the off chance you check replies, I'd love to pass on some good music to someone with clearly similar interests. If you have the time, you should check out an Australian band called Sticky Fingers. "Land of Pleasure" is an album that might just change your life.
