Lyrics
All this time I’ve been hanging on
To an edge I caught when we both were young
That the world I want wasn’t near enough
All was distant, always off
In all that war I’d forgotten how
Many men might die for what I’d renounce
I was staging life as a battleground
No I let that grasping fall
May the last long year be forgiven
All that war left within it
I couldn’t, though I’m beginning to
And we only made it together
Feel some change in the weather
I couldn’t though I’m beginning to
Though it’s all so uncertain, cold
All the rafters cracked, all the copper sold
There’s a ration back in a manifold
If you need it or forgot
May the last long year be forgiven
All that war left within it
I couldn’t, though I’m beginning to
And we only made it together
Feel some change in the weather
I couldn’t though I’m beginning to
And somehow I see it’s free
And with love and hate in the balance
One last way past the malice
One warm day is all I really need
And with love and hate in the balance
One last way past the malice
One warm day is all I really need

I'm being wholeheartedly honest when I say this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Doesn’t it just make you cry!! So beautiful
I can wholeheartedly agree 🥲
You'll say that about almost all of their songs.
@@clairepetty7421 I love a lot of their songs and all of those I love for how beautiful they are, but this one sticks out to me.
I wholeheartedly agree
What a beautiful album for such an ugly year
We gotta stop mentioning the year like a period of time is suppose to be good or bad. There is no 2020, there is no 2021 only now and then.
the intro is one of the most delicate and ethereal piece of music I've ever heard. It looks like something you hear in a dream...
Wow you described it perfectly 😍
@@nicolegalvez1477 perfect
it really reminds me of another song - I just can't remember which
Having been a teenager in the 1970s, I got to experience a lot of great music. This album is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Thank you Fleet Foxes.
Amen
Was a teenager in the 1990s & i say the same. As a teenager i listened to 1960/70s stuff, prog etc. But this is a great album i wish it would have been released in, maybe, 1997 or so...
I am listening to this rn while studying, meanwhile it’s raining heavily outside… This sounds so great!
This song always brings tears to my eyes. I can’t control it. The lyrics are so deep and so perfectly express so many emotions at once. This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
❤️
I hope 2021 be better, so then I can sing "May the last long year be forgiven, all that war left within it, I couldn't, though I'm beginning to"...
I thought the same thing, so beautiful. I want to sing this on New Years.
Here one hour before the new year!
"May the last long year be forgiven/all that war left within it" ❤️
_"may the last long year be forgiven, all that war left within it"_ this song is just so poignant and beautiful...
It's been a long two years and this is the first thing that's felt like gentle permission to let it all go, forgive myself for falling apart, and start healing. I don't know if I've ever had a song hit me this hard. A balm for the soul, ethereally beautiful.
Beautiful comment. Life is full of chaos but always remember pure unbridled beauty. I'm glad you're finding peace. Music is the ultimate therapy. All the best 🤘
This reminds me of classic fleet foxes, back when I first discovered them. It’s a hopeful and somewhat nostalgic song, the type of sound FF have perfected in my opinion
It does. I still remember the first time I heard White Winter Hymnal and how I walked six miles to buy the album based on one song. Even though I was all the way on the east coast when I bought it, that album will always remind me of biking out west, with nothing but sun, wind and rain behind me. This track gives me the same feeling.
this is my favorite song of the album ❤️
The most underrated band ever
Legit Bon Iver vibes with this one
Favorite track so far. I'm actually in love with this
This is perfect for autumn 2020 🌿🍂🍁🍃
one last way past the malice, one warm day is all I need.
... What a perfect encapsulation of coming to terms with life; to what it's been. The war, everything "always distant, always off".. The world/life many of us pine for seems almost impossible to ever attain.. In that notion, we begin to feel lost within, hopeless. And then "Somehow I see, it's free." Hope... Grace.. Light... Love. All we can ever do is begin... Begin to forgive, to believe, to feel again... Begin to open the folds of our hearts to this great unknown. .. May that one warm day wrap its arms around whoever needs it right now.
What a perfect description.
Beautiful
May the last long year be forgiven...
unto whom?
This is making me nostalgic.. over... I don't even know. A neat yet odd feeling
This album is like coming up for air from such a hellish year. This one is a masterpiece.
This piano almost at the end is so wonderful. Reminds me of running water.
Prettiest song on the album
This song makes me float
FOLKS! WHAT A NICE ALBUM. THIS IS THE TYPE OF MUSIC WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO AND THANK GOD WE HAVE FLEET FOXES AND OTHE FOLK AND MELLOW INDIE BANDS TO CREATE THESE GEMS FOR US. GOD BLESS THE BAND!
One of the best songs of all time
This track is my favorite! Takes me back to the 'Fleet Foxes' and 'Helplessness Blues' era
Makes sense why I love this band so much. They managed to create a completely unique sound and somehow manage to show influence from so many artists I love. Anyone else think: Byrds intro, Simon and Garfunkel harmonies, bon iver/beach boys vocals, Radiohead piano sampling style the first time you heard this song?
Lol.that is what I thought
The Roches - Hammond Song too.
I'd say Grizzly Bear vocals.
@@joaobastos2413 is Chris Bear harmonizing with them or something? I heard he played drums on the album. This sounds identical to GB. Lol
What radiohead sample?
2020 and Fleet Foxes for real sampling the Guardian encounter from Breath of the Wild. I'm here for it.
Such a beautiful song, i feel enveloped by warmth and forgiveness. Thank you so much.
This album feels like a soft blanket, I haven't been able to stop listening for the past month or so
Well, 2 weeks after the album released I can definitely say this is my favorite on the album, up there with songs like Blue Ridge Mountains, Montezuma, and Helplessness Blues.
I remember hearing this on Robin’s insta stories!!! So excited this track is here 💛
Best birthday present ever!
Fleet Foxes, making the world a little bit better though their songs ❤️
This is what I needed to pick myself up. Thanks guys, I love the new album
Me too!
Don't know how many times I listened to it in a few hours. Repeat, repeat, repeat.... This is the best 2020 song (for me, at least)! Both fresh and nostalgic, soothing my soul and making me feel grateful I'm alive! THANK YOU FLEET FOXES
very cool how the flower moves
Favorite song on the album so far! Wow.
This song eases my pain. Can’t thank you enough for creating and sharing this musical magic 🙏
This seems to be simultaneously a collage of so many lovely songs while still completely unique and previously unheard. I believe there's a sound resembling a leather chair cushion at 3:40 on the left channel. Kind of nice it was left in.
Great music , they strike again
Favorite song from an incredible album.
Simply a masterpiece... words are not enough to describe...
Best song of the new album!!
Fleet foxes makes me want to go camping
This may be my favorite Fleet Foxes song.
Big thanks for this song. Bless you all.
I’m amazed at Robin’s vocals on the album. I had to check that it wasn’t Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear singing this.
Song of the year.... Thanks Robin ❤️🤙🏻
A thing of beauty.
so lovely so thankful
i was driving and listening this album... that was the most peaceful driving i've ever had. what a great album👏
Great for road trips
Caught myself singing 'I DON'T LIKE REGGAE, I LOVE IT' during the intro. (Love the song btw)
I was searching for this comment. Good ear haha
@@samrose3205 hahaha thanks!
Awesome!!!
God bless 🙏
Queria deixar registrado que essa música me deixa em uma paz imensa, mas ao mesmo tempo fico com o coração um pouco pesado. Lembro do meu gatinho que morreu há dois meses, tudo faz sentido. Te amo fleet foxes. ❤️
Robin, I love this one,
This sounds like it came right off the 'courage of others' album by midlake, I love it. My favorite from the new album.
Just lush !!
another masterpiece
Such a great album and this beautiful song
I loved the live version of this from the Vote Ready set I can’t wait for a tour in the future
This is it. My favorite of the album
Son maravillosos, los amo! Estoy demasiado emocionada con su nuevo álbum, Saludos desde Chile!
gratitude 🙏🏼
God bless you, Robin, this is a beautiful album
Such a lovely song.
so good
love this song! my favourite of the record until now. such a warmful song
So Glad for this new Fleet Foxes album! another great one, always a great moment! also make me think of Bibio on this song🙂... many Thanks to Fleet Foxes and Robin Pecknold! 🙏 Hope to hear them in concert...
Does have Bibio vibes
This song has its world that I wanna jump n dive into it 💙
Thank you.
Strong Hammond Song vibes in this too. So good.
i think this is my fav
Along with wading in waist high water are my favorite tracks so far. Just incredible
Song sounds like it could have been the ending track on Pet sounds. Amazing
Pet Sounds was the third album of my dad's I ever put into the CD player, at age 5 it was probably the most amazing sounds I'd ever heard. Almost 20 years later I've come full circle to land on this beauty. On the off chance you check replies, I'd love to pass on some good music to someone with clearly similar interests. If you have the time, you should check out an Australian band called Sticky Fingers. "Land of Pleasure" is an album that might just change your life.
Chris Bear on drums y'all. Enough said
Fleet Foxes has always had an appealing focus on the drums. It's almost tribal in a way.
Rossen is on a song too right?
Good. I don't like Josh Tillman. He's kind of an arrogant jerk.
May the hope winds again!
Jesus Christ it's Jason Bourne (this song is so beautiful my brain is coming up with non-related stuff to describe it)
nah jason bourne, it is Jesus Christ and always has been.
God this song means so much to me. I don't think I'll ever find a song to match this, ever, in my life. Thank you.
Reminds me of "I'm losing myself" with Ed Droste and I Love it!
100th comment. I use it wisely to say this song is definitely one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
I keep coming back to this tune. I can't explain it. I just do it.
çok hoş ♥
Best album of the year. Big Brian Wilson vibes.
best song on the album tbh
Me encanta
Staying up all night for this.
And with love and hate in the balance One last way past the malice One warm day is all I really need
Reminds me of some of the band 'America' earlier work.
Really good track. I prefer the acoustic version. Can hear the melody in the vocal clearer
This whole album was made available on KZhead during lockdown and the videos were perfect and I love them for it.
I still return to it to relive and remember that time for what it was.
a piece of exceptional art. TG 4 FF
Love this song! I covered it on my channel but this is just too gorgeous!
escutando por causa dela, se ao menos ela tivesse gostado de mim...
❤️

Unbelievably beautiful. Who produced/mixed it?
