Mci bus goes from bad to more bad…

2021 ж. 26 Қаз.

More air brake problems uncovered on this mci 9 bus. The dd3 brakes were in really bad shape. The stopping distance will be greatly improved after if leaves here. Getting the property ready for a bunch of buses to come and visit.

    • braided hoses are easy to make in your own workshop, all you need is a cut off wheel and a vice. The hose and fittings are commonly available, its only a headache when a bus of truck uses a lot of different sizes and types of fittings. In the US the common # Number dash fitting sizes are simple, courtesy of the USN in WW2.

I've seen how bad things can get for people who don't have a regular PM schedule. The fact that he took this to even one shop, much less two, and they let him roll out with those brake issues is bordering on criminal.

  • Trucks & Buses are made to work with. Standing still doesn't make them better. When they move, the rubber and hoses don't suffer that much, but the lack of air, movement, grease and heat are disastrous for these machines. Mechanics today are computer heroes, they don't repair, they just replace. If the computer says there's no problem, they'll send you home. Good to see an old-fashioned mechanic and his family keep these monsters rolling safely! I enjoy every video, keep them coming (although I prefer them a little longer, say 20 min) ;)

  • If noting else, I've learned that "low miles" on a bus doesn't really mean much. So much happens just from the passage of time, and ironically, the lack of use many of these big RV's suffer. Is that why the VIP and entertainer buses sell for so much even having up to a million miles?

    • The two biggest things I learned doing industrial maintenance are the importance of religiously following a proper PM schedule and how to "mothball" machinery that was going to be out of service. Lack of proper storage preservation has probably killed more machines than the owners would care to admit.

  • After seeing so many brake and air problems on busses you work on it scary to me. I would recommend that any one that has a bus or RV with air brakes take a air brake course so they understand the fundamentals of air brakes. If you take your bus to a shop for air brake service or inspection make sure that that are qualified to do the job. If you don’t see nothing but big trucks and buses in the shop your are in the wrong place. Your life depends on it.

  • It's like I tell my shops who I outsource some of my truck repairs to, I don't give a damn what it cost, I want it fixed. My philosophy is, spend a few thousand now to make it right to avoid spending tens even hundreds of thousands later in litigation and damages. My Lafayette truck shop has learned to not argue with me when I order certain parts replacement or service work done. They don't have to drive the truck and therefore have no clue why I make them do certain repairs. I don't wait until parts and components fail, I catch them long before that based on time and mileage especially parts with rubber such as brake air line hoses and brake chambers. I thought that tech from Hose Power was from Indianapolis as we have them here too then saw the phone number on his truck. They must be a nationwide company.

    • Scott should think about getting a hot water power washer. Would make his life soo much cleaner if he sprayed dirty/greasy stuff with Purple Power and then blasted it with a hot power washer. Only problem is would probably expose MORE problems, but people go to him to get it RIGHT!

    • @@LittleWapiti Scott's problem if he was cleaning undercarriages would be surprise visits from EPA to inspect water catchment. Even the bull wagon washouts that were all over NW TX are gone. And we thought composting was a fav topic w/greenies.
