I'm from NZ and love your show.
"that's a new muffler I put on.... Did I get the wrong one?" No sir! You got the RIGHT one
When you put yourself in his shoes and all he's been through trying to get it fixed, his reaction is understandable. Good work Scott.......and Kelly to.
That guy was absolutely thrilled to have his jakes! It's nice to see happiness to that extent! Nice job!
Like a child with a new toy. Like the sound.
Sounds like the day my new box truck came in with a DD8 and Jakes. I was giggling like a school girl.
That's one of the best sounding Detroit diesels I've heard yet !!
2packs4sure.... Guess you've never heard a V12N, T, TA or TiB (Series 71) even at "just" 2,350 rpm, or the big V20 (series 149T).... ??
@@Romans--bo7br I haven't heard that many period,, mainly I've heard them on this channel. This one just had an amazing sound to my ear !!
Dads back in the day "You're in my light!". Now it's "Your blocking my shot!".
The way he is working the steering wheel driving I would check the tie rod ends .
No kidding. I thought he was going to drive in the ditch
I thought the exact same thing.
Odds are it’s just because of the lack of a tag axel. The tag helps with weight but also keeps a coach tracking straight. Without a tag you wind up chasing the steering wheel…the wander some. A tag makes a big difference.
I was having mechanic troubles with my Dodge Pickup / mechanical Cummins, no one could do anything since its pre-scan tool age (1995). Found a retired mechanic, no problems now.
the new guys now...all they are is part changers.
I had cold start issues with an older glow plug equipped diesel engine, it was easy enough to repair but I'm sure happy a mechanic wasn't needed. Hah, look it over and tell me either "part no longer available" or "can't diagnose, no computer!"
I know that feeling, my Jake's didn't work on mine either when I got my coach and man oh man I was just as excited when it was fixed!!
Now that's how you drive a Detroit. Drive it like it owes you money! lol. Nice work Scotty.
So awesome he is so happy! Way to go Scott!
Another happy customer! Thanks
Congratulations on the new shop! Need to go back and watch the process of it going together. Awesome 👍
I don't think anything you're saying is boring I enjoy watching you work hard on the buses
Wow that guy was so happy! Great job Scott!
LOVE IT!!! Congratulations on getting them working!!
Very nice, this guy is so excited! Very cool it was a relatively easy fix..
Can't wait to have you take a look at mine someday Scott I've got the same problem. Love the sound of his rig boy his rig runs great and moves quick. Your a great mechanic Scott we are lucky to have you. Thanks for sharing.
What an awesome sounding bus and was so good to see him so excited because I felt his excitement just to hear them come on😁😁
Great job Scott, thanks for educating us on such a wide number of mechanical repairs and problems.. Although maybe all will not be able to do some of these repairs, you do a great service to the public when you get to go to get this repaired somewhere. Also to recognize problems that the normal guy might not be aware of...
Well done Scott. You got them working.
Scott you are definitely a man of many talents! William
Great reaction to your fix..
That engine is so smooth....incredible.
Holy that thing makes a good noise! Love it!
Your channel is showing us so much, I always thought that if you needed to access the top of the engine that you would go to the panel in the rear of the coach.
Scott. I’ve been fixing stuff for folks all my life. Usually the stuff others won’t or can’t fix. The belly laugh and happiness of ownership that is restored to an owner who has been missing the joy of ownership..., is one of the biggest rewards you can get... it’s, possibly, more gratifying than getting paid... well... .....maybe, kinda close...🤷🏻♂️👍
I charged him $0. He helped build the quonset hut. ;)
@@BusGreaseMonkey your a good man Scott
The jakes really sound amazing with the 8v71
This guy is now the reason for no engine brake signs in residential areas.
He's one satisfied customer great job!
Watching him drive I believe he hauled liquor in the 30's and 40's !!!!!!!!! What a hoot
Watching the weather Channel and praying you guys are safe.
Another satisfied customer who didn't was money. Great job as always.
I just got the news about the flooding and fatalities and those missing. I hope you and your family are okay. Last I saw you were talking about it raining very hard pretty much non-stop. You have my prayers.
Love that Jake brake sound!!
Well done Scott!!!
I love to see him light up like that with his jakes working :)
That’s one happy customer !
thats a happy customer after fixing the problem.
Wow, love the sound of that bus! It’s just like the sounds of trucks, buses & even fire trucks that I remember as a kid😎
You're a good man sir
What a happy customer 😄😄👏🏻👏🏻
The joy on that guy was awesome love the ole jake brakes on the ole 2 stroke detroit
it seemed the front end was drifting a little on the drive, more so than other busses you've done that run in. It might just be my perception though.
I agree. The steering seems loose.
Sometimes its just the simple things!.......but what a lot of work to figure it out! Good thing he did get it checked and the minor things taken care of!
Nice job Scott! Wiring gremlins are the worst! I need to wire the jakes on my Pete, somebody before me removed all the wiring. Pretty simple to put back just down on my to do list lol Keep the video's coming, you're doing some great work and making me want to convert a bus .. lol
such a cool coach driver
😂🤣I love seeing and hearing his excitement having working Jake brakes.
You have the patience of a SAINT!!
Happy customer with his new Jakes! Lol. As a truck driver I can say it would def suck not to have Jakes. I like mine so much I often catch myself reaching for the switch when I exit the interstate in my personal truck! It has a gas engine so no Jakes on that one. Great video. I'm falling in love with these coaches more every day thanks to this channel. I hope to own one one day.
That is a reaction of a satisfied customer Scott.
As a 3 decades plus boater all hoses get a hair dryer or heat gun even in the summer. Makes a world of difference.
At 17:50, that is such an addictive sound, with a beautiful auto trans change..lucky man to be able to listen to that symphony!
Nice bus great job Scott
I LOVE it ! another tickled pink customer ! BGM SAVES ANOTHER ! WHOOP WHOOOP!
What a great looking bus.
One happy customer!!! :)
Great noise, had me smiling down here in sunny BONBEACH Melbourne Victoria Australia.
Have never seen someone so filled with joy for working Jake brakes.
My favorite part! Happy like a kid in a candy store
The MC5's were so tight to work on
Scott! Your amazing knowledge of these beautiful old buses never ceases to impress me, You are without question a very skilled man,,.... Something which has always puzzled me though, since I've been watching you, "Is why the heck did the manufacturers make the things so difficult to get at literally everything,.. xx
They needed to get as many seats in as possible
Like a lot of simple repairs it is nearly better to simply pull the engine. I worked on lots of DD92's in Orion and Prevost bus' got to where it took about 45 minutes to pull the engine. Also makes for steam cleaning the engine much easier.
That would like to see another happy customer
That's a badass bus! I'd probably ask him if you could look at that steering to tighten it up a bit
Best thing in any business is a happy customer!
Great job!
Nothing better then the Bark of The jake brake on a 2 stroke Detroit
like a kid with a new toy he was! (and I don't fault him one bit . . .) (why people just don't come to you first is beyond me . . .) (well I do know why, but still . . .)
Sick nice job and that guy is like me I would be as happy as him or happier
Your a animal Scott!! Another great job 👏
A bunny
👍 to see that your Best camera 📸 personality is on the job…
One happy customer
3rd. time i watched your show. you all put alot of effort into your work. i'm 65. wanted to be a diesel mech.when i was young. ended up pounding kingpins, and snorting brake/ clutch dust. God bless you and yours'.... did a head job on a 8v97? in 77 in a COE in 77? the thrill of my punk ass!
Lol…..best jake clip of the year 👍
Boy oh boy does that Detroit sound wonderful!
ha ha, a new kid with jakes' them jakes won't be getting rusty for quite some time!! good sounding pipes too.... let 'er buck
Don't you love a happy customer!!!!.........Love the "yip-eeeee"!!!!!!!!!!!
that guy was happy.
That's an angry sounding bus .... nice 👌
keep the videos coming
Process of elimination, good job Scott
That’s about right. You get a big thing for a big guy to work on and it’s in a tight space.
“I can’t see” “I can’t see either, and I’m working on it… “ Truer words have never been spoken concerning working on a bus/RV😭😭
Those Detroit Diesels sound as good as Rolls-Royce Merlin engines
Air compressor brakes. Very nice!
Boy she sure rips!
Very cool!
Get you a Milwaukee M12 fuel 1/4” ratchet, it’s the best thing ever for clamps!
So badass. Wish I could get my Eagle figured out.
Rollin_Homies.... what's wrong with your "Eagle"??
You should host a Semi Annual Bus Grease Monkey Parade in the town! 👍
Love that sound of these old girls.
A guy I know that runs a 318 (8v71) in his log truck ran a regular Cummins type micro switch to the throttle lever on an L Bracket in his truck for the Jake so it worked like a Cummins, IE Would kill the engine if you left the switch on. He did it when he added Jakes to the truck but never changed to a standard buffer switch because it worked just fine.
I _'personally'_ (again, just for my own consideration), would be hesitant to put a non-ratcheting breaker/break-over bar, on the spinning end of any engine, that _'could'_ fire up. j/s Everything else has already been covered nicely here - that owner's happy, is great to see! Take care y'all! (edit) Yes, I gave this video, a thumbs-up!
Scott You better start buttering that wife up. Her camera skills are so good Hollywood will soon find out and offer her head camera on the next Blockbuster Movie. Those shots were like I was in there with you! Diamonds--that will keep her for awhile. Or the inside house!!
What's more fun, building a quonset shop or crawling in & around a Detroit diesel
That is one nice bus and now it stops 👍👍👍
I use the closed caption on these videos.. when the bus owner hit the jake brake.. the CC said (MUSIC) , I thought that was kool. An old mechanic (probably 40 yr old) told me 50 yrs ago when I was 17 & learning mechanical repair: He said "always check the simple s*** first on anything". Over the decades I learned he was correct.
takes a special person to want to work on a bus engine. like working on a 70's van
19:46 That’s me flooring my Dodge Ram LOL
"Jake", "Jake Brake", "Jacobs Engine Retarder" or "engine compression release brake" is a wonderful device that can save your life if properly used and maintained. One may be surprised to know that the 'father of the highway diesel engine', Mr. Clessie Cummins, designed & engineered its practical application & usage on todays road-going diesel engines.
When you were turning over the motor with the ratchet at 13:20, I saw a big chunk of something that looked pretty bad on the pulley.
The only thing I saw, approximating _'your'_ description, was just paint shadowing, on that idler pulley - I'm not concerned (and, that wasn't a _"ratchet")_ j/s Cheers-
