Snake Catcher Removes 'Giant' Eastern Brown Snake From Sydney Family's Garden

A snake catcher helped a family get rid of a dangerous snake from the backyard of their home in Sydney recently, after their dog “went nuts” and alerted them to its presence.
When Kane Durrant from Wild Conservation arrived at the home in the Voyager Point suburb, he expected to find a whip snake common to the area. However, after “crawling under the deck and poking and prodding,” Durrant realized he was dealing with a “giant” eastern brown snake - the most dangerous snake in Australia.
This video shows Durrant chasing around the garden after the snake before he grabs and bags it. “That’s wild,” he says.

  • I'm not sure that Eastern Brown Snakes understand you talking to them, but regardless, you made a very brave and skilful catch.

  • Second most deadly snake but as they are very aggressive I would say they were the most hazardous snake in the world…..

  • Shorts and a T shirt. The preferred attire of a professional snake catcher. Yeah sure, why not - what could possibly go wrong?

    • Oh it’s not scary. I’m almost 60 and have never even seen one of these. Basically with snakes you stomp your feet and give the snake a chance to move on. They almost always will.

    • You'll be fine if you live in the city. Outback Australia is what is really scary. I'm a Kiwi who lived in Sydney for a year and loved the Australian life.

    • I had an eastern brown coming towards me quickly once because when I was a teen I went strolling through a freshly cut field and saw a bird flying on the spot and just looked down quickly enough to the eastern brown charging towards me quickly so I just ran away

  • Maybe they could anticipate this snake's movements and points of entry onto human habitat and lay down little electric fences about an inch high that drive the snake away from human habitat. They could also lay false scent trails to lure eastern brown snakes and other deadly snakes away from human habitat. Maybe they could toss a few mice into the area where the snakes would be gathering. It would take some really ballsy guys to implement this system.

  • Why is he tail tipping. Holding the weight of the snake up, by the actual tail. Very painful for the snake, many snake catchers do it. Would they hold their dog up by the tail. Should be holding it further along the body.
