I was wondering how Mazda would be able to make nicer looking vehicles than they already do, and yet they surprise me again. Mazda cars are shockingly elegant looking. They have some serious talent.

  • Personally, the only EVs I can get exited about are luxury sedans because I would want a luxury sedan to be as smooth as possible and automatic anyways, and an electric vehicle is as smooth as it gets. That Mazda EZ6 looks spectacular. I just enjoy shifting way too much and wouldn’t want to give it away in a sports car so electric sports cars do nothing for me.

Yes, still very Chinese and very much SL03, but Mazda did a lot more work on the exterior and even the interior to inject some Mazda DNA despite having to build upon Changan bones. This isn't a rebadge.

    • North american's auto market is being too comfortable for brands like Toyota, they can surge up the price as they want and people still have to pay for that sh*t. Even if you have all the bias on Chinese auto brands, it's always a good thing to have brands compete with each other to give customers a better and cheaper product. It's ALWAYS good to have other choices! Open your eyes and see how good and cheap the EV cars in Chinese auto market, even Toyota, Honda, ford and Cadillac sell cars there with cheaper price and even better features. Old people have this bias on Japanese cars decades ago, things will happen again.

  • The Mazda EZ6 comes in a fully EV (about 600km range) and a hybrid variant. I spent a full day watching the auto show live yesterday, and boy, it was overwhelming with EV premiers. Almost every cars comes with big center screens and all the bells&whistles, latest safety and entertainment features inside! The Chinese auto makers have come a along way, but I still give the best of the show award to the lonely Infiniti concept car hiding at a corner of their booth. Too bad they are about to fold in China. There is another media day you can watch live starting tonight. The show is packed with Tiktok'ers and some foreign youtubers, the new era of media showcasing.

  • I like the EZ6's front end treatment better than the ones in the new RWD crossovers but it's still notably a downgrade from the last gen 6. Aside from the luxurious two-tone color scheme, I don't think the interior is really that nice (or maybe I'm just not a fan of the Tesla-like center screen). I do like how the Arata concept looks. May all future Mazdas resemble that concept more rather than the awkward new RWD crossovers. Appreciate that the Toyota bZ3c isn't much diluted from the concept and it's pretty handsome for a crossover-coupe. Also, good on Toyota for bringing back the glovebox!!! But please, the bz naming convention should be retired and be forgotten. Nissan's electrified concepts are interesting. I'm partial to the Evo and Epoch sedans, which I think are more appealing than the EZ6. Looking forward to seeing those as the next gen Sentra and Altima. Honda's e:n vehicles are hideous. Just so bland and cheap looking. The Ye series vehicles are much more stylish.

  • Thanks for sharing Kirk, I think design is not as clean and as timeless as Mazda rest of the world designs . Did Mazda take some Chinese car and added it's "look" to it ? Rear of that 6e looks weird , it lacks control knob for the entertainment, lack of capacitive touch is big reason buyers buy Mazda and now Mazda uses it as part of the worldly disease... Hope Mazda 6 in US will be q clean looking Mazda World (not China) design . Nice large low stance street wagon 6 (not lifted Subbies like) for around 40K would be a great alternative to SUV for all those not needing tall SUV .

I do like physical buttons and display screens that don't look like an after thought attached with 3M double sided foam adhesive. As for why we don't get cars available in China, it's all about politics combined with variations in safety requirements, otherwise, I'd probably be driving a Hong Qi luxo-barge (if they could fix all the complaints posted online.) 🤷🏻‍♂ I do have my fingers crossed for an eventual return of the 6 in some iteration.

  • By 2027 (heck, by 2025) the EV tax credit law could be completely changed by congress. They could scrap the requirements for battery mineral sourcing, and even where the vehicle is manufactured! Imagine, all these companies building factories in the U.S., then the law changes to allow Japanese vehicles qualify. LOL!!!

  • The deepal sl03 looks better. The new 6 looks awkwardly proportioned. Like it was designed to be a shooting brake/wagon before the designers decided they wanted a sedan instead.
