@@Welcometofacsistube Can confirm, own a 2000 E320 4MATIC. Bought for $3000, about 3000 put into it so far. So fucking worth it though. Beautiful interior, drives wonderfully, almost 260,000 Miles.

You can get trucks MAN, old Volvos for as little as 2k with valid MOT - so a 6t truck... interesting challenge but all depends on the budget. I would stay in the £650 area and try to find the newest, most economical car with less then 150k on the clock. Needs to be 4 or 5 door and should achieve at least 50mpg when driving 70mph

I just checked Carsales in Australia, searching for registered 2 door sports cars under $1kAUD, which is barely higher than 500 quid There is literally 1 option in the whole country, a 1992 Ford Capri with 374,000kms You guys are lucky to have so many cheap cars available

None of those 3 can show only 2 door vehicles, not even carsales can filter by "leather seats", facebook marketplace can't even search outside of 100km. It's frustratingly difficult to find something specific unless you know the exact make and model you want.

It's not really even a modern spin on it though, is it? It's just exactly what they used to do, but with no point to it. At least Top Gear did something with the cars once they bought them. I just sat for 20 minutes and watched some guys buy some cheap shitty car. They could have put a bit of effort in. This channel is slowly losing it's appeal..
@@ollythomas6702 You are kind of right, but I think these challanges are more about how fast you can buy/sell a car in the UK. Most car shows have a huge team that do the research to get the cars, the hosts select the car they like the most and then do old drive from point A to point B formula, we never get to see the selection of the car so I would strech a bit to say this a "new" twist on the formula. I said it in the last video, but these dudes should focus on a long term challenge where they keep flipping cars and see which is the nicest car they can get without losing money.
@@ollythomas6702 the reason they don't do challenges like top gear did is because it would just be Alex, without the competition element I don't think it would be as entertaining. And in top gear you never saw how they found the car so it's kind of a modern take on what they did.

You really are a bit spoiled in Britain, 500 pounds for a MG TF that's a bargain. Very cool to see the whole proces by the way, the excitement of actually finding and buying one is almost as fun as owning it, really genuine as well 👍.
@TheCamshafter That's somewhat disingenuous. The used car market is such that, financially, it makes no sense to spend a thousand pounds repairing a car when you can get a similar one, in better condition, for less. As for knowing about cars, well that may be true, up to a point, but then, like most people, you probably don't know how to service an aeroplane, repair your fridge, rewire your house or remove your appendix. That's why we have people who specialise in such things.
Next challenge, THE BOY RACER CHALLENGE. you've got to buy a car for less than £750 and spend a max of only £750 modifying it for performance, interior AND exterior styling then enter it into a modified car show. 3pt series?!?

Since its mid engined, would you guys be able to do a series on modifying this car? Kind of like a MX-5 Alternative?
They are fairly easy to mod, same engine as a 75/ZT with the 1.8 Turbo engine. Little bit of adjusting to the firewall and the turbo fits, remap to 220hp

@@yugnoswam4 Hell when they upgraded from the F to the TF the sub frame was modified so it could take the V6. Realistically they could probably buy a scrappy 400 and put the KV6 in the TF. With a remap alone you can get 220 from those things.
@@SpitfireFortyFour You can put a KV6 in a TF and it's been done a few times, a mate of mine has one from MJS Auto and Marine. The problem is the KV6 in its top spec is only 190Hp and with upgraded cams/pulleys, remap you're only seeing 215hp or so. They don't really take well to forced induction either without deep deep pockets, plus then you don't have space in an F or TF. K series turbo is lighter and if you spend 2 grand on building the engine with forged pistons, con rods and ductile liners, you'll happily see it running 300-330hp all day every day, and be lighter.

@@andrewlaw It's not something that's unique to MGs. The Ford Fiesta, Ka, Puma and Focus of that era all suffered from serious rust problems and MK2 MX5s are renowned for the sub frame rusting away. I dare say many other cars had similar problems. Steel, moisture and salt just don't mix well... not ideal for cars in places like the UK.
@@another3997 I'm a VOSA tester, see them every day. Soon as an early Ford comes in inner/outer sills, subframe and fuel filler area are a given for an MOT fail. Got 3 regulars I see every year, 2 Fiestas and a Ka, always fail and end up visiting the welders for remedial work. Every year I tell them to get rid and every year they spend £300+ getting it through a test. All are one owner cars they can't bear to part with....go figure.

I love these videos. When a new one pops up the feeling is like 8pm on a Sunday night when a new Top Gear episode was starting. I've not watched the "new" Top Gear but I've watched every Car Throttle video 👍❤
This is posible in UK, in EU is imposible to find something in order for that money. Even for 1000 euros you can only buy a bunch of problems with wheels that have some options to pass the inspection.
I went to the internet look at car prices because of this series. Even a crappy Fiat Punto is more than 1000€ here in Portugal...
In America you can't find a decent car for 2000.
yeah, but insurance is way cheaper in the rest of the eu, at least where i'm from. as far as i know in most of the countries you insure the car - the more expensive, the more you pay. say you buy aforementioned punto for 1000€. but you'll pay maybe 150-200€ insurance p/a. in uk you insure the driver and it also takes in account the car. so you might buy same car for £100, but if you're in your early 20's, no kids, without no claim bonus, you'll end up paying easily over £1500 p/a to have it insured.
