"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Been reading the Dune books, this is perfect background music.
I gotta read them again now for the tenth time....

I can almost feel sand grains on my face.
I was driving through New Mexico from Alamogordo to Silver City back in 1996 in August. It was around 8pm when I stopped at a empty rest area near White Sands to switch off with my brother, we noticed a pair of glowing eyes looking back at us from the scrub brush beyond a wire fence. Wasn't scared since I'd seen plenty of coyote before but I got a feeling of dread. My brother whistled at it, like you'd call a dog and I kid you not, it rose up on it's hindlegs. I got back in the truck and called my bro to get in, he did just as soon as the coyote climbed over the fence like a man would and slowly making it's way toward us. We floored it. Not sure what the hell we saw that night but it's a story we still recall sometimes. We've seen other stuff out there too. One afternoon in November, one I was still in high school, my dad and I were on a dirt road near Hatchita, we were rockhounding for some bluelace agate and found a lot of great pieces. We were ready to leave back home when we saw this old lady in a pink pastel top and loose white pants slowly walking some feet away from us. Now keep in mind, it's all flat land out there, just some mesquite and scrub, maybe some shallow arroyos. Not a single house or trailer out there, not even even cows that might hint at a ranch. Concerned we started slowly driving toward her. I don't know how, but we didn't seem to get any closer to her and she didn't seem to hear us calling out. She stumbled, almost pitched forward into an arroyo and out of sight. I got out of the truck fast hoping she wasn't hurt, I looked down the dry river bed... There was no one there. Just a faded pink top stuck to a yucca fluttering in the wind. My dad got down and we both just stared. We got back in the truck. Didn't talk the whole way home, never brought that up again until a few years later with some friends at a bbq. Writing that again though, recalling that memory, fuck, there's something really wrong about this state.
The first story sounds like you ran afoul of a skinwalker, yeah New Mexico is.... strange.
As a New Mexico resident I agree lol

Hey ya all. I just realized I've been listening to dark ambient for about 13 years now. It's been a wonderful trip and I'm super grateful for all the amazing artists and people/listeners along the way. It all began with Atrium Carceri, Robert Rich & Lustmord - Stalker, Dahlias Tear, Desiderii Marginis and Beyond Sensory experience. Not surprisingly, I ended up having this realization under a video by the Cryo Chamber label which AFAIK is Simon a.k.a. Atrium Carceri. So thanks to you Simon as well, for bringing all this amazing music together and the countless hours of concentration and deep work, and blissful lone walks I've had along with it. Wanted to share it with whoever reads this, as I am sure there are many like me, who don't have people around them listening to such music :D By the way, the desert theme is the reason for this flashback. Back when I was just discovering the existence of this genre, there was a chillout compilation that I listened to a lot and still love, called Arabic Beats. Produced by Bar De Lune, 2004. Also, thanks to Draku Lady for uploading a ton of awesome dark ambient to her channel of the same name. If you ever read this, all the best and thanks for the time spent putting up those videos!! And all the best to whoever read this. You're awesome, stay dark :)
I like this. No raunchy electronic fart noises. Not too whhhindy. Just enough echo to give you that sense of vastness. Like the ongoing dreams of a long dead Pharaoh reminiscing of his fleeting moments of glory. And the long, long rest of eternity...
?
You have a very pointless sense fo superiotity, and a very inlfated carrying of yourself
@@mareksicinski3726 What !? I only said that I like this music. Where is the superiority in that ?
It's funny I listened to this probably 3 times while playing in a Dark Sun campaign before I noticed the description. It's perfect for the setting!
This is perfect to get in the zone while reading Dune. I just can't read without this in the background anymore. Good stuff.
Every time an atmospheric mix comes out I can't help but want to make a D&D game on its theme.

hollow earth conspiracy confirmed
That is literally the best dark desert mix on youtube. It gives more emphasis on the ambient part and the instruments are there to give an extra feeling, not overtake the ambience. Excellent!
Listening to this at 3am is amazing.
Thanks Simon. I probably don't need to even say how much it means what you're doing for all of us. :)
If "2061: Odyssey Three" is ever turned into a movie -- the soundtrack is right here.
You know when you read books with stark alien landscapes? There's just a few lines of words that you can use to put a picture into your mind's eye. But it's more than that. It's a feeling too. This music is that feeling.
I have never seen the desert in my life, now I know how it sounds like
Listening to this while reading Dune is the ultimate vibe!
Hi 👋
Remembering a trip to Morocco and just let the imagination going along this. Thank you man
Was listening to Pink Floyd today and said to the wife that I think my favourite song by them is probably Set the Controls For The Heart of the Sun. Love that weird, psychedelic mix Middle Eastern sounds with dark ambiance. Who is the man who arrives at the wall? Making the shape of his questions at asking. Thinking the sun will fall in the evening. Will he remember the lesson of giving?
Oh shit. This video predicted the monoliths
This is some pretty good D&D ambience

This is specifically the type of music I have wanted for so long. Dark ancient desert has such a very unique feel to it. I appreciate this allot. Wish I would have found your channel sooner.
Man shall not live on bread alone… But on every Word from the mouth of the Lord.

I have a desert themed D&D game that I’ve been spending time putting together. I’m sure your music will be “instrumental” in creating player immersion.
Atrium Carceri is on another level
Oh man... Ager Sonus - Of Ashes and Dust is speaking to my soul right now!
The best for reading Duna!

For sure. Some weird bits in it. But overall very well done.
41:39 Creation VI - ancestral voice..... That is like a ritual type of song. Especially when the drums start, Very powerful, I have went deep Into meditation many times because of this. Be careful though. You could wake something up inside of you, that you might not be able to handle.
This is absolutely incredible. It could easily be "the sounds of hell". Working well for my writing.

Diamond deep perfection.
Fun fact : I'm currently writing a Call of Cthulhu : Dark Ages campaign set in the Omeyyad Caliphate. It's currently windy as shit and freezing cold right here in the desert so i think it's the perfect time to take a walk while listening to this
why do I like ambient music so much?
I watched Moses with some friends at a friend's place, while I walked my friend home we talked about ambiance. The very next day this comes in my recommended.
So vivid and enthralling. Thank you for this wonderful piece. I am reminded of the true story of a journey across the Sahara in the 1920's. In it the author talks of the camels amongst their caravan and how one oasis they camped out at seemed to be haunted. The camels appeared to be spooked by something. They would suddenly bolt off in one direction just to halt and scurry into another direction in an attempt to escape whatever unseen forces were tormenting them.

Nice. I've been waiting for something like this and I smiled when I heard the chant to Shub Niggurath. I mean, I live in Vegas and, considering what she represents, it's the same principle.
I now know why I love this compilation so much, it has some Fallout 1&2 soundtrack vibes, real doomy good!
It remembers me the old D&D campaign of my cousin, the final part was about fighting in the desert.

This was the perfect companion to reading the nameless city by Lovecraft, thanks!
bleak, inspiring and spot on! Takes the mind on a cinematic journey in forbidden temples and derelict ruins of ancient civilisations, partly submerged and asleep in centuries of sand coiling around the solemn edifices... perhaps an expedition was funded to probe the Empty Quarter in search for mythical Iram (or Irem of the Thousand Pillars). Maybe the last message to the archaeological dig at Ebla hinted at the menacing outcome of the long journey across the terrible inhospitable terrain. Those who ventured in vain, seeking the sources to the riches of Assurbanirpal and Nineveh, have last been spotted crossing into Saudi Arabia a week ago... even the helicopter saw no trail, nothing... and the link in Yemen reports only static....
Stupenda!
This is friggin dope
Listen to that while playing Kenshi, incredible stuff
I've been playing a Skyrim mod that has me in the desert, listening to this while playing it fits perfectly.
If I ever run a Warhammer Fantasy game in the setting of Nehekhara, I'm using this. The sense of desolation and dread is palpable.
