    • I had a cat that would always tunnel her face into my arm at the vets to try and pretend it wasn't happening. Bless her. She was such an anxious rescue cat, and my husband and I and a handful of my friends and family were the only humans she trusted, and that took a LOT of work. She definitely implemented the "lalalala it's not happening!" approach!

    • Sweet mayonnaise... actually no, let's not use that

      @Thesparten45@Thesparten454 ай бұрын
    • I don’t think Nala was actually “calm & chill” but rather a mix of terrified & extremely confused. But bc Nala has clearly never had any negative experiences & likely only positive experiences with humans she was *extremely* trusting that despite not knowing her & Vanessa being the one doing thing Nala clearly didn’t enjoy…due to only having positive experiences with human Nala fully trusted that Vanessa wouldn’t do anything to actually harm/endanger her. Had there been multiple other dogs/cats as well as multiple other groomers operating noisy equipment…her behavior may have been more extreme. Which is why being professionally groomed by someone like Vanessa who is the only groomer in the shop & typically doesn’t have other animals in the shop are *perfect* for any…but especially for adult… pet’s first professional grooming! Plus it also helped *significantly* that Nala was a prime example of “happy hoodie sedation”. As some cats act as if extremely or even fully sedated if you put something on their head…like the happy hoodie or even a hat…or in some cases something on their body such as a shirt, coat, “thunder” aka calming vest or even simply a harness. I’ve had multiple cats that when I put a simple walking harness on them seemed as if they were completely sedated as if for surgery bc when you tried to pick them up they were *completely limp* and no mater what position you held them in they would not even try to hold their head up! We had 1 mostly outdoor cat with long fur who seemed to simply love going through every patch of brambles along the field behind our house trying to catch mice & birds. He *HATED* being brushed or even to just stay still for me to gently remove the brambles. However when I would put and *extremely* minimal harness…literally just single bands of material…he turned to jello & I could brush him, pick out brambles & even cut/shave out patches if severally tangled/matted with the only movement from him being the flicking of the very, very tip of his tail. The *second* I took the harness off I had to be careful as he would instantly hiss & try to claw/bite me before running off to hide for several hours. I had another cat simply putting a small collar on would similar to the previous cat I mentioned completely immobilize her. To the point I had to be careful when bathing her because she wouldn’t even lift her head out of water!! I could literally gently spray or carefully pour water directly on her head/face & her only reaction was to close her eyes!😳🤯And despite having ALWAYS run & hide anytime I turned on the vacuum or blow dryer…yet with just the tiny collar on I could fully blow dry her without her even trying sit up!! Even more amazing was that unlike my other cat this one would immediately demand to be in my arms or on my lap. And after literally only a couple minute she would be purring & slow blinking at me! It was the most bizarre thing! But I had literally had both of them since birth since someone dumped their mom off at the end of my driveway & just 3 days later she had 5 kittens. Once she weaned the kittens I found good homes for 3 of them and after the mom was spayed & fully healed I found her a new home as well. Since the 2 kitten I kept had never had any negative experiences with humans…besides their vaccinations & spay/neuter at the vet…they fully trusted I wouldn’t harm them. Versus an adult cat who was similarly dumped near my house which by his behavior & some old wounds/poorly healed broken bones had clearly been abused. While once I gained his trust…a snug fitting simple harness or a calming vest would similarly cause him to go limp. But the second I tried to bathe him or do anything he strongly disliked…he would sudden turn into a kitty tornado to get away.

  • Gorgeous gal! My mother had a black Forest Cat (I can't recall now if Spade was a Norwegian or SIberian, but I remember the Forest part). He was absolutely the best cat ever. He learned a few human words specifically so he could get milk whenever he wanted it, and he was the first cat I ever saw take care of another cat, bringing food over to our adopted Siamese Rum-Tum. Rum-Tum had severe brain damage from being hit by a car and no one at the shelter thought he would make it another month. We had him for five years, and in that time he even learned to walk in a mostly straight line again; and Spade would cuddle him into a corner where Rum-Tum would feel safe, then bring him bits of dinner. Spade was also the only cat EVER to fetch, finding my baby sister's toy in the yard one night on request. He was so, so smart. I still miss that cat thirty years after his passing.

I'm a crazy cat lady of decades standing and I feel I can read cats better than dogs. The hope is that Nala really will relax with future grooms as she gets more used to the situation. She's a beautiful, good girl.

    • Yes! She was saying Nala was chill, but you can see she's very nervous, just hoping if she freezes and doesn't do anything, the scary stuff will stop. It DOES make things easier, I had a male cat who did the same thing and the vets really loved him because he'd just freeze and accept his fate in their office. But this is a situation to keep an eye out for signs of stress like panting, at least till she gets more used to grooming and does actually relax.
