  • He’s gorgeous. As the proud owner of a Siberian cat once upon a time, I learned that by having a pair of small embroidery scissors within reach whereever he lay down and chilled out, I could split most of the mats with my hands, and very, *very* carefully clip out the ones that I couldn’t. It worked out fine for us for the 10 years I was allowed to have him in my life. ❤

    • I do that with my Maine Coon mix. I think he was feral at some point, even though he's extremely friendly, and he doesn't allow brushing. He usually takes care of matting himself, but I have to stealthily remove the mats on his belly.

They are tall, have big feet, have long bodies, and are recognized by their gorgeous tails. I used call my M.C. "Mr. Teddy Feathertail". • Wanna be careful of exposed bellies with cats. It's often less "hello yes I want to be friends" in stressful situations, and more "I will put all four sets of claws in a primed position." It can be a sign of relaxation, when they are at rest completely, but in stressful situations where they know they aren't in control it's a defensive posture.

    • @@AvaNightingale Everything about the process, from the environment to the procedures to the attitude of the groomer, is designed to control the subject, because they will be cleaned, because they are pets and that's what the owner wants, and nobody has time to make sure the animals consent or are able to understand, nor does anyone want to because they have bills to pay. It's all fine and dandy on the surface if the animal happens to not care, but any sign of resistance and first you will be hooded, then scolded and shamed or bribed with food and sweet words, then muzzled, then a bubble over your head, then put in a harness and suspended in the air. Not to mention being drugged beforehand. Because they will be groomed whether they want it or not.

      @misteral9045@misteral90455 ай бұрын
    • @@misteral9045 good pet owners understand that consent is best, but we don't wait for babies to be comfy before we change their diapers because they will very quickly be in extreme discomfort and I'll if we do not. Same with illness in kids. Not grooming leads to illness and often is the result of illness on top of it and will lead to the fast decline and death of many animals especially those bred to require grooming. I agree that nobody should have bred animals to need that, and that it's not ideal, but we don't live in a world where we can all understand animals well enough to communicate with them about how serious and necessary to their quality and quantity of life this is. As a child of extremely controlling abusive parents I get why you'd be so stuck in this.l thinking. We also live in a culture that is very anti-consent. AND good people do have to choose between bad and worse things in the world. It's bad to go without consent but it's worse to let someone get hurt because you won't swallow the tough stuff and do what's right for them even if it's not what either of you would prefer. Evil people make things bad no matter the context, it's a choice they continually make, much like good people. The difference is how we go about it and what is preserved.

Once Zeus got a look around at everything ground level, that probably relaxed him. If it were me, I would leave the cat alone in the room with it's owner for 15 minutes, and let it explore around before trying to groom it. It would knock down at least 15% of it's grooming anxiety, possibly more.. That's what all the pacing back and forth was all about, social anxiety from being in a new room ..

Actually, a cat of any color can be a smoke because it's defined by having the white roots under any other color. If you look at Felis Gallery the photographer that has that page has a whole houseful of Maine Coons, including quite the collection of black smokes. He has one that I think might be a red smoke and another that might just be a Blue-Cream tortoiseshell smoke!

      @lala_bee@lala_bee5 ай бұрын
    • @@sylvisterling8782it is likely you may have intended your comment to be helpful and not in a snarky way. However, generally speaking, correcting people’s grammar in an informal context like social media with folks that don’t know you and vice versa more often than not comes off in a negative way. It is seen as nitpicky and pedantic, due to possibly perceiving you as one of those “grammar nazis” who are inconsiderate and overlook other people’s meaning in favor of criticizing their written form in order to implicitly or explicitly undermine their intelligence (and the claim that poor spelling = poor schooling/intellect is false, but I have seen people legitimately argue that due to someone’s grammar mistake, that means their entire argument is invalid (if conversing in a debate), even if the argument has nothing to do with English writing). If you must, there are two ways to go about this that may show people your positive intention (if that is true): 1) have your comment also address what they are saying in their post in a positive way (“I agree…” or “I think what you said is interesting because…”) either before or after the grammatical point, and 2) perhaps more importantly, adjust tone. “In case you may find it helpful, [insert grammar correction]” or “Just a minor note, [insert grammar correction],” etc. Ideally, utilize both points 1 and 2 the next time you feel obliged to correct someone’s grammar in a similar informal context. Otherwise, I would put slightly more emphasis on adjusting tone

Especially in the "arm pits" where the fur rubs together all day long. Just be aware that they're not the most intelligent breed. They end up in situations you wouldn't have thought to be possible. That's also why they make a better house cat. They trust everyone and everything. No care in the world.
