Let me try to clear up what is actually happening. In the first 5 seconds the M2000 tries to do a radar lock with the boresight mode (upper square thing). It was not successful, either he is too close or the F-16's defensive jammer jammed his radar, both of which will prompt the "JAM" warning on the HUD. The M2000 is still able to obtain infrared lock for heat seeking missiles (circle on F-16), but is currently in gun mode. However without radar ranging, the HUD can't display the gun predicted impact point, so he has to rely on his own judgement and try to place the F-16 somewhere in the gun trail. He is still able to shoot him down easily with an infrared missile, or a gun albeit way harder without radar ranging. In any case M2000 pilot wasn't very aggressive, F-16 wasn't very defensive, seems like it's just a stern warning and they do not want to start unnecessary conflict.

@@MRKvinto1 this was actual interception on 3rd may, if you learned the Mirage systems and symbology you can tell exactly what happens here, there is a lot of things going on. The only thing we don't know is what's in the pilots' head. Yes of course the Mirage pilot had all the chance to shoot it down if it's an actual combat.

Man,what a nice move from the M2000..he came from above vertically in a great offensive position..letting the f16 in a very difficult defending situation..the f16 loses energy clearly and in the end surrenders cause there is no chance of escape or for an accident!Nice skills by the M2000 pilot..

Turkish Armed Forces have no skills in general. They get their butts kicked wherever they go (Aegean Sea, Syria, Libya, Kurdistan etc). Especially the Turkish Air Force is always an easy prey for the Hellenic Air Force

What we can see from the footage: * No radar lock: likely because of rules of engagement Mirage pilot disabled it. To avoid the F16 pilot to see it as an act of aggression * Mirage makes a by the book move to start in a very offensive position * F16 Pilot makes a first evasive climb and then sharp turn but probably lacks energy * F16 pilot sort of "gives up" probably realising it is in its interest not to go super defensive (which again could be seen as agression) * For the JAM I am not too sure why, it could be some electronic warfare since they are at very close distance. * Mirage has a missile lock most of the time. Overall in a real dogfight situation the rules of engagement would have been different and they would have probably reacted much differently. Now we also have no idea of what happened before and if they were flying alone (unlikely?). So frankly I think its more pilots testing each others but not too much as well.

I think the Turkish Air Force forgot the Hellenic (Greece) Air Force operate the F-16 (F-16C & D Block 50) which is the same variant they operate. The Greek know the F-16 block 50 weakness, capability and performance.

In dogfight, locking means 90+% shoot down possibilities. Mig29 may worse on past records. But it's doesn't means f16 is better, because all Mig 29 shoot down is on different scales war, which f16 had the help of AEW, satellite etc. I does believe that Mig , mirage and f16 is on par when come to 1 vs 1, then pilot will become the crucial factor for the winner

Let me try to clear up what is actually happening. In the first 5 seconds the M2000 tries to do a radar lock with the boresight mode (upper square thing). It was not successful, either he is too close or the F-16's defensive jammer jammed his radar, both of which will prompt the "JAM" warning on the HUD. The M2000 is still able to obtain infrared lock for heat seeking missiles (circle on F-16), but is currently in gun mode. However without radar ranging, the HUD can't display the gun predicted impact point, so he has to rely on his own judgement and try to place the F-16 somewhere in the gun trail. He is still able to shoot him down easily with an infrared missile, or a gun albeit way harder without radar ranging. In any case M2000 pilot wasn't very aggressive, F-16 wasn't very defensive, seems like it's just a stern warning and they do not want to start unnecessary conflict.

The only thing we don't know is what's in the pilots' head. Yes of course the Mirage pilot had all the chance to shoot it down if it's an actual combat.

What we can see from the footage: * No radar lock: likely because of rules of engagement Mirage pilot disabled it. To avoid the F16 pilot to see it as an act of aggression * Mirage makes a by the book move to start in a very offensive position * F16 Pilot makes a first evasive climb and then sharp turn but probably lacks energy * F16 pilot sort of "gives up" probably realising it is in its interest not to go super defensive (which again could be seen as agression) * For the JAM I am not too sure why, it could be some electronic warfare since they are at very close distance. * Mirage has a missile lock most of the time. Overall in a real dogfight situation the rules of engagement would have been different and they would have probably reacted much differently. Now we also have no idea of what happened before and if they were flying alone (unlikely?). So frankly I think its more pilots testing each others but not too much as well.

I find that the comments about X airframe vs X airframe is better is pointless. But the Greek pilot did a very good offensive approach.
I think the Turkish Air Force forgot the Hellenic (Greece) Air Force operate the F-16 (F-16C & D Block 50) which is the same variant they operate. The Greek know the F-16 block 50 weakness, capability and performance.
They are both NATO country so they train regulary against F16:s from different countries. However the F16 is obsolete against several other fighterjets among Them Mirage, Rafael, Typhoon, JAS and later Russian jets

In dogfight, locking means 90+% shoot down possibilities. Mig29 may worse on past records. At that speed you will NEVER get a mirage off your ass unless he fucks up. Being maneuverable only works if you have enough energy to spend on maneuvers.

Looks like the f16 wasn't even trying to evade unlike the footage of the mirage which was flying at 300 feet while being peppered.
Look again! The greek pilot had him on lock, the f16 tried to shake him off and couldn't and in the end he gave up.
The Turkish pilots are lucky it's not a real war otherwise there F16s would be sitting on the bottom of the Agean Sea
(I do not support either side and believe this conflict should come to an end) Tbf turkey would probably destroy Greece because of the fact that Turkey have double everything that Greece has Naval wise AF wise and Ground wise, Greece would lose due to the fact that Turkey are higher in number of everything from nuclear weapons to mass destruction. Greece would lose if they went to war with Turkey but remember, I do not support either side and this conflict should come to an end sooner rather than later.
