When it comes to performance, both of these cars easily offer more than enough! Starting with the BMW, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six which can deliver 510hp & 650Nm of torque. It’s RWD, and BMW claims it can hit 60mph in just 3.9 seconds.
As for the 911, we’ve only got our hands on the entry-level version, but its 3-litre 6 cylinder twin-turbo can still deliver 385hp & 450Nm! Just like the BMW, it’s also RWD (obviously), and can hit 60mph in 4.2 seconds.
So, the BMW costs £87,000 (with options added, that is. The starting price is £75,000), while the Porsche starts at £83,000. The question is, if you could afford it, which would you go for? Let us know in the comments!

@@joevazquez9405 don’t get me wrong the new grill of the m3 is hideous, but darker colors like this green help to diminish the perceived size of it. Compared to white for example, this green helps blend the black grill to the dark green.

Great video as always - thanks for the content. Might have been better comparing M4 v 911 - as anyone needing the practicality of decent rear seats is probably more likely to buy the M3, or RS4 or Alfa. Unless they’re just play things and rear space doesn’t matter.
For the ‘entry level’ 911, it’s performance is extremely impressive.

911s are pretty capable in their base forms for quite some time now
But the sound and aesthetic leave alot to be desired.
Forget the entry level impressive, its can do a 3.8s 0-60 with RWD and 385HP! Wtf!

The Porsche isn't about the design; it's about the drive. I rented an M3 once and couldn't wait to get back into my Porsche.
@@romanvice Problem is day to day you don't run them to the limit or anywhere close. This Porsche is so bland inside and equipment poor it is inexcusable. I'd take a higher level 911 over the M3 but I'd take this M3 every day over the base 911.

@@jerzy3144 M3 interior is way way more technologically advanced and comes with standard daily features like radar cruise control and more lol. Porsche is a good dedicated track car, BMW is better for dailying/track cars. One package that does everything.

Not at all. 911 is very far from being the quickest in Carwow. A lot of cars destroyed them especially on rolling race.
The G80 M3 is way more fun, special, the fact that it's a literal *sedan* with so much insanity, power, handling, drift easy on 1/4 of throttle, awesome body lines, way *better* sound with a good setup, full RWD and 510HP+ *as standard,* not even with BMW perfomance parts, the fact that the S58 can take 1000HP on *stock* internal and *way better* value for money in every way. And it's a *///M* car, cheaper on the long run, keeping it's value much better than a regular spec 911. Stock it's already insane but even a simple S2+ ECU tune with all stock parts on the RWD car (not even the AWD version) would make it way faster than the 992 AWD Turbo S especially on rolling race. Imagine the AWD version for the M3. BMW all day long. And it's coming from a Porsche fan.

I am in the market for a new car and was looking at both these cars so great video. Already being a dad myself, I am leaning towards the M3 as this will be a daily driver. Just more economical when I need it to be but when I am alone, the fun can really start.

I cant say that I would like one over the other... they are just for completely different reasons (above awesomeness). If you need more practicality then the BMW will not disappoint (obvioustly) and if your a single person and like to just look good and have fun then the Porshe is the obvious choice! As always great review... I am learning a lot about cars and am getting a much better feeling for what my priorities would be in a car too (will be looking to buy something proper for myself in the near future!) :)

I have tried to like that front on the M3/M4. I really have. But I just cant. Side and rear design is awesome though.
It's a shame because it's a great car but the design is what's stopping people from buying it imagine if it looked as good as the predecessor it was be so desirable
When you see the regular kidney design, it looks boring and very similar to the older version. This is different and new.
I've gotten kind of used to it by now. But that doesn't mean that I think it looks good now, it's still hideous and ruins the car for me. Otherwise it would have been an absolute banger. So the M340i must be it.
@@ikhoonyejelem2967 I think the huuuuge price tag might have also something to do with it. The upcharge between generations is pretty big here, don't underestimate that. But yeah, overall design except for the front is great but the latter is just undoable.

Yup noticed that, on the speedometer it actually says building boost and after that, it says launch ready. Matt just brake boosted lol

Porsche has a rev stopper when sitting in park or with the brake on, that in order to stop useless engine revs and noise. Just deal with it, you get the noise when driving it.

Congrats on the baby! An interesting test would be to see if having 2 adults in the back helps the 0-60 launch in the M3. The extra weight there might help traction.
First things first: Congrats Mat! Second: There are decent front facing seats that fit in the back of a 911 - with Isofix : Roemer Duo Plus. Can confirm they fit in a 991 and a 992. And get this - there are quite a few buggies that fit the frunk - even for my twins. No rear facing seats for the back though.

You can always take of the soft limiter of the porsche and have even better
Compared to any car pre 2014 it's absolutely laughable. A C63 from 2012 ridicules it, same as an E92 or c6 zr1 which are all cheaper. I'm not much of a fan of the OPF downsized engines, even if the Performance numbers are nice they lack any form of driving pleasure. I currently drive a C7 Z06 and its pretty much the last performance car im gonna have, nothing which came out the last few years compares to it in it's price range, except for a 100k KM r8 v10 Buy used and pre OPF cars, people. Show them that we don't like what they're doing to ICE cars

Comparing a sport car against a sedan is always going to be interesting. The fact the BMW can carry a small family and their luggage and still track is actually quite amazing. The Porsche, well it does what it is supposed to do. No surprise there.

A powerful 3-series like the one shown, but with an electric roof would make a great base for a more humanely priced competitor to the California/Portofino. Would of course need (much) better looks to be a real alternative or even to come close to having the same sort of flavor. This one is definitely more "distinct" than pretty. :D

The 911 is the king of acceleration and braking, even with 60 less horsepower. The reason is in the position of the engine hanging from the rear axle. Although it was a handicap in cornering behavior (today totally neutralized after 57 years of continuous evolution and improvement), in acceleration what Watson says: the rear axle with the weight of the engine has more grip, if to this you add the four drive wheels is a veritable missile on the way out. (Carrera 4S version) The same happens when braking, with the weight of the engine the rear axle also has more grip for braking, and therefore it can mount larger brake discs than the competition without fear of locking.
550d touring and boxter gts are also strong competition on either end of the usability/drivability scale for around 75k.

Odds are the m3/m4 will plummet hard in value. I bought a 2015 M4 for $72k, I looked at used 2014 carrera for 74k, I bought the m4. Traded the m4 in 2018 with 30k miles, the trade in value was around 40k. Right now, 2014 911s with 40k ish miles are fetching $60k

Im pretty sure not even the E36 was ever 55k. Inflation adjusted it's about 65k in todays money.
