Guess again!
Mat’s rolling up to this latest drag race in a tuned BMW M3 Competition to see if it has what it takes to compete with the king of carwow drag races, the 992 Turbo S!
So how do the stats compare? Well the M3 has had a stage one tune, so as a result, its 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six puts down 600hp & 750Nm of torque. It’s equipped with all-wheel drive and weighs in at 1,780kg.
As for the Porsche, its 3.8-litre twin-turbo puts down more power, producing 650hp and 800Nm. It’s also lighter than the M3, tipping the scales at 1,640kg.

All I have to say is that Juan is a highly skilled KZhead channel presenter. Juan is actually a professional car journalist as his main job and the people saying that he is "goofy" on this particular video or saying that he looks like special needs you are wrong. I watched many channels of Carwow from Juan and the guy spekas fast, clear and without interruptions. He knows his subject very well. I know that Matt is always joking and never serious but if anything Matt is more goofy on his videos. I love both personalities.
He’s not special needs, it’s just that it’s obvious English isn’t his first language so he has trouble with pronouncing and grammar
I think the only people with 'special needs' are those who struggle with the concept of someone trying to speak another language and not being quite fluent.

BMW engines have better tunability and will give you more power rewards out of tuning than in a porsche.

Hey Mat, bit of constructive criticism, I think the races have been taking too long to get into recently. For example this video took 5 mins to get to the drag race. I get that KZhead prefers 10 min+ content. But it seems to dragged out. No hate just some advice from an avid Carwow viewer 👍.

1st car BMW 325is 89. Didn't know how to drive stick. Took 3 days a week before I got it down. Had exhaust was loud and fun 5speed stick rear wheel drive with limited slip. 1st snow I took it to a parking lot and had lots of fun.
That BMW is seriously impressive. Half the price and I reckon the stage 1 tune will be a couple of grand. It’s a bargain!
Stage one is like 1k that’s it.
It's only a quick ECU remap, quick plug in from computer and installing a software update which bypasses the restriction. Only 1k..but free and can be done at home if you have the codes online. Wouldn't recommend that though

Unlocking and mapping the stock ecu on the g80 is more like 4k.

There seems to be a misunderstanding by you. It is not that you just get some nice safe extra hp for some money. A tuning drasticaly reduces the life time of a car and can even cause a completely blown of engine. If that extra power would be without problems BMW would have done it by them self. A simple chip tuning causes eg much higher combustion temperatures wich can kill spark plugs. If spark plug bursts the ceramic falls into the combustion chamber, the whole engine and turbo is than completely toast. BMW itself uses eg a water injection by some models to reduce the combustion temperature. The chance to kill a motor with just chip a tuning is above 50%.

If the BMW is this fast as a stage 1, what kind of numbers and power is a stage 5 or stage 6 making? As in fully built and bored and stroked motor out to 3.6 liters with much bigger turbos and cams, intake, downpipes, midpipes, straight piped exhaust, methane injection, ice box, running race gas with tune, upgraded pistons and throttle body, heat exchanger, upgraded fuel system, built upgraded transmission, etc.. Would probably cost a good 50k extra maybe?
I’m very impressed with these new xdrive m3’s. I reckon with hybrid turbos it will do what the Porsche is doing and will take total cost to 80k/85k ish. What a bargain and a true 4 door super saloon. Still half the price of a 911 turbo. 😱

This 600 hp is such a simple tune. In Germany a guy tuned the x3m with the same engine up to 750 hp only with an ecu and downpipe

The M3 is down on power and torque, up on weight, using torque converter vs Porshe's dual-clutch, not as low-slung as the Porshe, and less than half the price of the Porshe. The M3's performance was impressive with just a simple tune even though it lost to the daddy of quarter-mile drag races.

Caution: The Porsche is designed and tested to do this all day. The BMW with a tune is not. No components are uprated. It's just an ECU remap. Good for the odd 0-60 drag off. Not really much use for anything else. Good value, but also voids the whole powertrain warranty.

bmw break lights turn off before hands move. juan was too subtle for mat with the left foot sarcasm but he just jumped the 1st one. not by much, but still made a difference :D
Juan didn't use launch control the first time. It left so light, it's not like his reaction time was bad.
Deadly impressed with the BMW the the Turbo S is a serious 0-60 car probably one of the best. And a family saloon with a basic tune is competing for half the money. I am hearing you can get up to 740bhp with the factory turbo’s albeit with a couple of simple hardware upgrades. That’s just crazy from an M3.

The Turbo S best time on carwow is a 10.1 i think. The time of the tuned M3 is impressive. On the other hand, the difference in the brake test is insane!

Best time has been 10.1 a couple of times, but most times it's 10.2. It was slower this time apparently, no idea why.

The stock xdrive is proper fast but with a simple tune... wow! All future comp m3s should just be xdrive. some people (mostly those who bought the RWD comp) saying the xdrive is not for the purists. but if you were an M3 purist, you wouldn't be buying a new m3 anyway - its too big and heavy. the xdrive is the perfect setup for this car and you can turn it off whenever you want.
And now you know why the M3 is so revered with Porsche drivers. The M3 offers fantastic performance for a much cheaper price point when you need a 4-Door Sedan.
That's why I bought An audi Quattro... even the x drive csnt keep up too 100 mph.... I like passing people if need be with no issues. Thanks s6 with upgraded RS7 turbos..... Holy smoke 750 hp isn't no joke. It passes a 911s with ease. I'd say it's as fast as a 765lt McLaren or a newer model S.... but not the plaid!! That thing is almost a 9 sec car!!! OMG 😲

F6 is already tuned to the max, doesn't have anything else left in it unlike the m3
