The Best Bread To Buy At The Grocery Store...And What To Avoid!

We're back at the grocery store...until we got kicked out! You guys wanted to see a bread review video, so we did a HUGE haul at the store to show you which breads you want to buy and avoid. It's actually pretty easy once you learn to read the labels, you can spot the bad ingredients like a sore thumb. Try to buy breads that are made with sprouted grains, as they are so good for you, especially compared to processed and refined wheat. Whole wheat and grains is where's it at, not enriched wheat, preservatives, and chemicals. Check down below for my favorite bread brands and what I look for when shopping for good quality breads. Mad love Bobby...Dessi...and Art! XOXO
Buy our keto cookbook: amzn.to/2TOHWJL
Look for breads that are:
-Made from whole grains & wheat. Whole grain meaning the bran, germ, and endosperm are used to make the bread.
-High in fiber and protein, at least 2-3 grams per slice
- Low in sugar(2 grams of less), ideally no added sugar
Look out for "enriched white flour or wheat flour", this means you’re eating bread made with refined grains that have little nutrition.
My fav gluten free breads:
Bread Seriously: Natural fermented sourdough. Taste & texture is amazing, but it's pricey: www.breadsrsly.com/
Canyon bakehouse: All varieties
Food for life, same company who makes Ezekiel
Happy camper's: www.happycampersgf.com/
Trader joe's: The ingredients are not quite as clean as the others, but I like the texture and price.
Udi's sprouted bread: Read the ingredients, not all varieties are good
My fav bread brands:
Ezekiel..anything from this company. Buy it from Trader joe's
Silver hills sprouted bakery: silverhillsbakery.ca/where-to...
Trader joe's sprouted bread, it's almost as good as Ezekiel
Dave's killer bread
Alvarado st. bakery sprouted bread: Buy it at Trader joe's
Rudi's: Only the WHOLE grain varieties..read the label
Breads to avoid!
Trader joes crispbread: Made with rapeseed oil. Cheap oil that is highly refined and processed.
Brownberry: Refined grains & gmo-soybean oil. It's no better than white bread
Pepperfridge farms: enriched wheat flour…gmo-soybean oil..dough conditioners.
Arnold bread: gmo-soybean oil, added soy, whey. The organic one is better.
Orowheat: gmo-soybean oil, added soy, whey.
Natural oven: gmo-soybean oil..just use a better oil people!!
Plenty more to avoid, but now you know what to look for ;)
Avoid these chemical ingredients, they are DOUGH CONDITIONERS:
monoglycerides
azodicarbonamide
DATEM
diglycerides
sodium stearoyl lactylate
Hamburger Buns I like:
Ezekiel 4:9
Rudi’s
Silver hills
Canyon ranch Gluten free
Trader joes Gluten Free: Has the best texture, very similar to regular buns, price is right, but ingredients not as clean as others.
Breads I don't love, but if you have limited options:
Koepplongers
Best grains
Keto bread brands:
FlavCity keto fat bread recipe: www.flavcity.com/low-carb-ket...
Base culture: amzn.to/2Jgbv4m
ThinSlim zero carb bread: amzn.to/2Jgm1bz
Avoid SoLo & SOLA keto bread. They use gmo-canola any soybean oil.

    • It depends... of course the pre-made stuff is gonna be more expensive because they’re using better ingredients, however it is always cheaper to made stuff at home than eating out or buying pre-made foods. You don’t have to buy organic all the time if you can’t afford it. Conventional produce is better than no produce. It’s about finding a balance of the things that are important to you. Some ppl drop $60 on alcohol on one weekend (not saying this is you, just an example). I can fill my fridge and pantry with food for 1 week with $60 from Whole Foods, só choose wisely.

On our bag now(5-2022) Organic Cane Sugar is the 3rd ingredient AND it has 5g of sugar per slice. The one he shows in this video sugar is close to last ingredient. He says in this video to steer clear of breads with more than 2g of sugar per slice. So somewhere along the way in the last 2 years, Dave's Killer Bread recipe changed.

    • Hansen Vs Predator You’re right. It definitely can be double the price most likely. But maybe in the long run the extra price for healthier ingredients in our foods will ultimately be less costly than prescription drug prices that we’ll need in later years if we continue to eat bad foods or unhealthy ingredients. And yes it is more expensive for these more nutrient dense quality foods but in the long run, you’ll feel better, look better and be more energetic and maybe there’s something to say for that. Please note, I am not discounting your comment at all. Money is money but my motto in life is, “ Pay now or pay later”...💜

    • Whole grain bread may not be the best alternative because of the gluten and lectin content. Both gluten and lectins damage the intestines and can cause issues to the gut barrier, leading to long term complications. Some people are more susceptible than others! Bobby talks about nutrients in whole grains versus nutrients in white bread. Imo, aim to get your nutrients from vegetables, not bread! Vegetables will give you a more substantial variety of nutrients. If you’re going to consume bread, eat gluten free, sourdough, or a clean white bread directly after a workout(benefits from the insulin spike). You can also eat the bread with a fiber supplement to lessen the insulin impact.

I am suspicious of this guys intellect when he said soybean oil is bad cuz GMOs without explaining why GMOs are bad, and it just seems like fear mongering to worry about every single teeny tiny detail and assume everything thats added in food will kill you, I just want to be healthy without the wacky "omg this palm oil is like, used in factories so it must be bad" how tf is palm oil bad? This apparently assist from getting spoilt or mole growing on loaves. I've used this trick and it works. Depending on where loaf is placed inside or out, bacteria attacks food, but apparently cold or maybe consistent light or heat does either slows or prevents bacteria growth. Hum, 🧐 thanks Dad for showing specific ideas that work if done correctly. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

    • Fact: The cracked wheat listed on the label is NOT the same as enriched flour. Technically it is sold to the bakery as "crushed wheat" and appears very much like a lightly rolled oat. Very minimal process and no enrichment. How would I know? Worked there for 4 decades. FWIW Brownberry mainstream breads are just that: mainstream albeit using premium ingredients. GMO or organic certification is a costly affair and mainstream offers better quality than run of the mill sandwich bread at an affordable price. This guy should just say I'm going to trash every mainstream product because it's not GMO/organic blah blah blah. Nothing earth shattering to see here.

  • Bobby, I went to Walmart (🤮) and checked out the bread just out of curiosity, a lot of that crap has CA prop. 65 cancer warnings on them. thankfully Ive mostly been staying away from bread/ gluten for 8 years, sometimes I need a treat though! the almond flour chocolate chip cookies mix you recommended from trader Joe's is EXCELLENT
