    • Why would they? People still bought 1050ti/1060 over the 570/580. People are still buying the 1650 over the 570/580, they are still buying the 2060/2070/2080 over 5700/5700xt. They've realized that even if they put out a good product on the gpu segment, majority of people would still go for nvidia. Even if they made a halo product with bigger dies, it wouldn't matter much. That's why now they just only sightly undercut nvidia for similar performance in mid/low segments. And they aren't as aggressive in their gpu division as their cpu division. The drivers speak for themselves. Currently, the 580 performs better than 6gb 1060. This wasn't the case even 1 or 2 years ago. And their newer gpus are getting worse support compared to the older ones.

    • @@mistaenforcer9666 as 5700 owner, it's all truth, they made it kinda stable only after 6 months since release. Now i wouldnt recommend to buy any amd product, only atleast half year since release, so they will fix their constant software issues.

    • The market share growth is really impressive but at the same time really disappointing to those that want long term competition. It took the stars to align just right for AMD to get this lead on Intel and they're not doing enough with it imo. If Zen 3 isn't a knockout blow, Intel finally getting on 10nm/7nm will force things back to the status quo.

    • Well, most people are moving to GPU so it won't make much difference, and there is already Intel CPU capable to deliver comparable performance. Where this CPU makes a huge difference is in money and energy savings.

      @AnonymousMachine@AnonymousMachine4 жыл бұрын
    • David Escalante while people are moving to gpu theres still alot of benefits in quality for cpu rendering that gpu isnt quite there yet, although its more of a minor thing, but the fact that the affordability of these chips are pretty cheap all things considered is pretty crazy. But once rtx cards hit the 7 nm space and we start seeing more rt and tensor cores in those cards that could be a huge deal for gpu render, right now gen one of rtx for rendering is already crazy good

  • AMD, why on Earth have you capped the 3990X's max practical RAM at 256GB? That will rule out a great many potential users for whom this could have been an deal fit, especially solo professionals and staff of the big league companies who'd want to have a home system (as many do). 256GB is the new baseline for content creation at uncompressed 4K and studios are rapidly adopting 8K (with Quadro RTX 8000 48GB becoming the popular GPU choice since having gobs of VRAM is essential), and if you think having a higher memory cap would hurt EPYC sales then you're wrong, they're different kinds of CPU with different performance profiles & behaviour. Linus summed it up perfectly in his recent LTT video. Also, if you want to use the C-Ray benchmark again for any of the launch PR (the benchmark I admin), like you did with the Rome launch, please contact me as I would be happy to include any results on my C-Ray page, though really it's not the best way to demo the 3990X since C-Ray doesn't use AVX or anything so new, though it does scale well with lots of threads (email me at: mapesdhs@yahoo.com). There are better ways of showing off a CPU like this, such as FEA, QCD, parallel transcoding workloads, etc.
