  • This is one of the reasons why Serena stood up for herself. Serena took all of the racist name calling so that girls coming up behind her could also stand up for themselves. We love to see it.

It has nothing to do with racism. It's about speaking up politely, which is what Coco did.

    • @@grangebateliere You're biased towards Serena and there's no question about it. How many times have players gotten frustrated and done things that weren't necessarily "professional"? It doesn't make it right but they are human. This is a sport. Emotions are going to be high at least a couple of times during her 20+ years career. How many times have you lost your temper dealing with less than a fraction of the stress Serena has endured? Think about that. Serena has been through A LOT in this predominantly white sport. I say she's handled herself pretty well to me. To use your irrelevant points to overshadow what Serena has done for the sport INCLUDING making it easier for younger players of color like Coco to speak up just shows how close-minded you are.

    • do you honestly think that is something to be proud of. coco was saying "I don't care if you want to give me extra time for me to get ready for your serve, but I am not going to give you even a second to prepare." that is called bullying my friend. if you do not know the in's and out's of tennis, then know this. the rule says be reasonable. coco grew up in that environment so she is used to that environment. siegemund was a German with less temperatures there. she was sweating like crazy and it is the first round. is it unreasonable to wipe your hands so the racquet does not fly out of your hands and hit someone, before point. even the umpire was looking at coco like "girl chill out". and the audience like the innocent puppies they are were lapping it up.

Take basketball which is predominantly a black sport now as is boxing. Different horses for different courses. It's not a racist thing at all, 'cos I'm black... Tennis is mainly East European players over 50%.

  • Despite the slowplay from Laura she should have moved in on Coco's serves. Coco gave her plenty of extra time to "rest" by all her missed first serves. Secondly, she should have taken advantage of all the second serves she saw. A change in her gameplan while still toeing the line, still taking her time, just not as much and attacking that second serve better would have made for faster winning points. Maybe Coco would have taken more time to concentrate getting more of her first serves in. An odd match, I had to watch this after seeing all the hoopla regarding her slowplaying. The chair ump did nothing to speed things up, no wonder Coco complained, it was getting ridiculous.

If you need to hold up between serves in an attempt to throw your opponent off you have no chance of winning here. Your skills just aren't at the level of the competition if you need to do all the extra outside of playing tennis.

First Siegmund was taking too long to serve then when the capable player wants to play and get to it, leave it up to talent, Siegmund says, " I wasnt ready". 😂 Is this girl a beginner ? You do realize you have to be ready when the server is ready? If you have to result to nonsense and not your ability you don't deserve to be there.
