Springtime In Alaska (Chores and Adventures)

Good morning from Alaska! We are back at the "lake" for another weekend of adventure. The snow is holding on for dear life but it's fate is sealed. We even refused to wear our winter gear this weekend
just to make a point of it. But the more it melts, the more work we can see lying beneath it,,,
Salmon season is just around the corner and we are planning our June trip to the Copper River. My family has been fishing the same stretch of river for over half a century now. The first time I fished there I was only 5 years old. I will tell you more about it as we get closer to the trip.
So much love and thanks to all of you. Our KZhead family means so much to us. Thanks again for everything.
Peace to you from all of us
P.S. We finally got a post office box set up for those of you that are interested in communicating via snail mail. Here it is:

    • And me as well. My Grampa was digging the well with just a shovel and I was watching him down in the hole, sweat dripping from his brow. And he asked me if I wanted to help. And my 4 year old self, according to family legend, replied, I like to watch not work. Lol. Well that changed with the lessons he taught me, and I pride myself on my work ethic because of him. Lucky Grandson to have a Grandpa and Grandma like these two.

  • I’m gonna tell you something that you already know….that boy is amazing. Wow! He actually contributes and helps out for more than 5 minutes. He listens and is not afraid to try and fail. And most amazing of all….no whining or complaining or saying he is bored. A golden child. You are to be commended. What a gift he is being given…the ability to think and care for himself…to be self-confident and independent. A gift that keeps on giving that will serve you well also. This was a joy to watch even if a little nerve wracking watching you guys on that roof. Looking forward to next week.

I have three grandchildren but only one lives close and thankfully I see her most days I’d the week. She gives us so much pleasure. We are taking her wall climbing tomorrow which she loves to do. I love the cave Drox made we do that with sand not snow here on the Gold Coast. His big smile tells us how much he loves being with you. Enjoy. Thank you for letting us enjoy the time you have with Drox.

  • It is so awesome that Drox wants to learn so much from his grandpa. What a little helper. It will be so nice to see the cabin all done. Well you have to have a little playtime once in a while. Drox is so lucky to have grandparents like you.🥰 Nothing like interrupting sunbathing time to load trash 🗑️. Lol. Just be careful with the glass and stay safe.

  • Watching Tanya sunbathe on the roof, I was reminded of the movie, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". (No negative connotations). Who will prepare the coffee? Tanya, - "I, as usual"! This is not entirely true! I remember well how Gale took care of Tanya when there was a "wild" trip with an overnight stay in a tent! And of course Drox!! The most wonderful period of his childhood and growing up! He himself does not yet realize this, but in the near future, every minute, every day spent next to his grandparents will bear positive fruit in his work, in relationships with loved ones in the family! Stella is beyond competition! Loyalty, love, friendship - this is its essence!

  • Hello From Florida! It's certainly nice to see the snow melting away and "people" up in Alaska, laying in the sun, getting a tan!! And metal roofs are so good for laying around, enjoying the warmth. When I saw Drox's smiling face on the opening minutes of the video, I thought, "Boy if this kid could tap dance, he'd give Shirley Temple a run for her money as the best smile in "movie" history!" And it's true . . . he has grown a foot in the past few months. Before you know it, he'll be able to stand on the floor and reach the ceilings to help Gale affix those new rafters!! As always, Tanya, the "Time for Coffee" comment was much appreciated for a little dry humor! I'm going to try that with Fred the next time things get "tedious" here. Gale's natural talents as a builder are showing through again. I could watch you tear down and rebuild all day, Gale. When we were building the B&B (a million years ago!), we had two local guys who were doing the building. Kevin was 6'6" and his assistant, Bob, was 5'6". Between the two of them, they worked from sun up 'til sun down, talking little and accomplishing a lot. Natural builders, like you, Gale. When watching a natural creative builder such as yourself, Gale, I feel as though I'm watching a great piece of art being created. Yesterday, Gale, I went back in your videos and watched the one where you and Drox went up to the old resort to "get the lay of the land." It seems that was the beginning of this amazing renewal up there in the "north pole!" I feel a renewal coming to the planet Earth in the near future, where the old, negative ways are dying off and the new, positive ways are taking hold of us all and giving us hope for the future. I feel that you, Gale and Tanya and your family, are leading the charge into this "Brave New World." Its going to be an exciting journey for us all. We're glad to be on the journey with you-all! God Bless, Leslie Ann & Fred

    • Good evening you two! Where does the time go? We are already done with May and getting ready to blow through June. In Alaska, we measure our summers by weekends before the snow flies again. We typically see snow by early October in the interior of the state, the summers are so short, too short! We have to spend them wisely, with people we love, doing the things we love. I think we are at the age where we want life to slow down a bunch and let us savor some of the wonderful years. What part of Florida are you from? When Tanya and I first married with drove a little Honda Civic all the way from Fairbanks to Hobe Sound, Florida and spent about two years there sweltering. One day we had enough, we packed up and drove back to Alaska. We have been here ever since. Love you guys!

      @ThisIsMyAlaska@ThisIsMyAlaska2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ThisIsMyAlaska As you know, we're in Sarasota now. But we - both Fred and I - grew up in Wisconsin. I, in Milwaukee (the southern part) and Fred in Eagle River (the northern part). Our home in Wisconsin, in Land O' Lakes, is butted right up to the Michigan Upper peninsula - the back end of our lot there is on the state line between Wisconsin and Michigan. So, we grew up "Snow Babies" and know what short summers are all about. It's impossible to grow tomatoes in our 60-day growing season!! Once upon a time, Gale, way back at the beginning of your channel, you and I "talked" about my having lived in Islamorada in the Florida Keys and you-all having spent time in Hobe Sound in FLA. Do you still have a house there? Or family? You're right about time passing quickly. We both "feel" like we're still in our 30s or 40s; and I'm turning 73 on Saturday. Fred and I are both "orphans" now, both sets of our parents having left the planet. Now, we will be the next generation to die off and leave the planet to our children; a sobering thought. But we're "long-livers," both; Fred's parents lived into their late 80s and my mom died last February at 96. We're counting on being around for a good, long time yet. And, we're kind of following your example of renovating the old; we're going back to Fred's old stomping grounds and looking to renovate and rebuild old buildings, fire up the old hand pump and/or drive another point well if necessary. It'll be our "get-away" place in the event we decide to live "off grid." And, we'll be with you both (all?) on your journey each week as instructions on just how to do some of that renovating! Have a great day, unless you have other plans! Leslie Ann & Fred

Nobody can say it better than Robert Service: "The winter! the brightness that blinds you, The white land locked tight as a drum, The cold fear that follows and finds you, The silence that bludgeons you dumb. The snows that are older than history, The woods where the weird shadows slant; The stillness, the moonlight, the mystery, I’ve bade ’em good-by-but I can’t." Much love to you from both of us

  • Do you know, it's the simple and very common things that are said and done on your videos that are so endearing. Loved Tanya's disturbed sunbathing with 'Is that your best offer?' and also Drox's response saying 'Do you need some help?' Just wonderfully real - but again Gale, your interaction with Drox as he learns is the very model of patience. Learning by doing is such an important means of exploring what we are capable of and having his pop pop there is the very meaning of pedagogy. Thanks again - progress is inexorable.

It looks like a new metal roof.......You never cease to amaze me Gale. You have a definite style all your own and it shows in every building project. Watching you inspires me to do and accomplish things every Friday. Watching Drox interact with Stella is heart warming, the bond between a boy and a dog is hard to beat. I am totally amazed each Friday, seeing how much you accomplish in just a week end of work. I have many questions about what lies ahead, but do not want to ask them, it would ruin the surprise. Thank you for providing such great entertainment, life lessons and wholesome fun to all of us. Stay Safe. Kind Regards, Randy in Arizona (104 degrees yesterday)

    • Good morning Randy. We are slowly making progress on this old place. We get about a day and a half each weekend to work on it. So far the weather is clear and sunny, which is typical for the early spring here, but the rains and storms are coming soon. We need to get these roofs on as soon as possible. We are not a young or as fast as we used to be so things progress slowly in our opinion. We also want to keep things enjoyable and take time talk, drink coffee and play with the grandkids. That will probably only get more so as this project continues. As always, thank you for your friendship. I treasure it. Peace
