1 NIGHT Solo BUSHCRAFT Alaska (A Simple Shelter Anyone Can Build)
This simple shelter is made with an 8x12 tarp and one spruce pole. I used tie wire for attachment but a small rope or parachute cord will work just as well. I prefer to build this style of shelter facing downhill because it's floor naturally sheds water in that direction.
My meal was seasoned ground beef wrapped in an onion with a side of baked potato. I washed it all down with cowboy coffee. If you're not familiar with cowboy coffee you are missing a treat. The grounds are boiled right in the water for a couple of minutes and then settled to the bottom by adding a shot of cold water (or in this case, a handful of snow). Absolutely wonderful!
The date of this trip was May 26th. The mosquitos are starting to show up, but they are the early ones, big and slow, not the elite fighters are still a few weeks away yet. It was 9 pm when I got out of my truck and 12:30 am when I was eating dinner. Welcome to the land of the midnight sun!
Peace.
Some say he’s still up there somewhere. The legend of Jeremiah Johnson lives on.
Hi Gail another awesome video Alaska is so beautiful enjoy the midnight sun was intoxicating your camp looks amazing hi Tanya Stella be safe my friend your friend in Rockingham NC 💞💞💞💞💞 see you next Friday
Don't you love the comments "stay safe" lol? More like "Tough as nails"!!! Great stuff!
Nicely Done. I enjoyed that video. You have skills.
Love your ford truck
Real enjoyable relaxing video! Climb up a mountain: with back/sleeping bag 👍Packing lite: cooking a very good meal over an open 🔥..Sleeping under a makeshift tarp.. Living the dream Gale. Thought u might have your grandson? Bet you slept great👍 Thanks for taking us on another journey 👍B Deacon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
Some me time with nature's breath of fresh air👍🍺!
Good morning Gale, first, let me compliment you on your taste of trucks. I drive a 1989 Ford F150 4x4 Lariat that I bought brand new and it is still running strong. It's nice to see you getting away from the fun work of tearing old bldgs. apart and rebuilding them. A little alone time does a man good especially here in our great state of Alaska. I hope you did a part 2 to this video, would like to see the outcome of dinner and whatever else you did that night. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much John. I hope to do quite a bit of camping, hunting and fishing this summer. I am looking forward to taking my camera along and sharing it all with you. See you soon!
I have a 2003 F-150 that is still going strong. Bought it brand new from Worthington Ford in Anchorage back when I lived up there. Drove the AK highway two and a half times in that truck (once in the middle of January). Cheers.
Thank you so much for this video it’s very special for me because you never know when you have a emergency and hav to build one
You are welcome Ivette. I like using simple, everyday tools and supplies in camp and shelter- building. It is important to know and practice outdoor survival skills, especially in Alaska
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Thanks for the video!
You are so welcome!
Gale I remember the video when you made the firestarter. Thought that was a great idea. But when you snuffed it out after starting the fire. That takes it to a whole new level for me and campfires. Thanks for sharing. Say hi to family.
Hi my friend I hope you are doing fine , I'm.soo happy to watch your solo adventure I missed them alot , I was going to.ask you about stella but I remember that your want to be with just nature and your self which is so healing sometimes to be with our own self , I hope your had a great time there and iam sure your enjoy that delicious food especially the stuffed onion ❤🙏
Happy father's day Gail 💖💕🙏🙏
Into the wild, it’s so beautiful 🤩
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
With all the work you do, you need this time to enjoy the beautiful country.
What a beautiful day, loved the video. Peace from Arkansas
id say you have the most beautiful campsite ever!!! great view & even better sunset!!! thanks for sharing with us & be safe out there!!!
Hi Gale. I must admit the video and scenery are beautiful but I really like to hear your comments and suggestions. You’re one interesting and knowledgeable man! 👍🙏
Lovely. The solitude and the sunset. So good for the soul. Trust your potato was not too blackened (the voice of experience) and that the onion and ground beef were still moist and tasty. Trust you also slept well despite the potential of curious bears - that's not a hazard we have in Scotland. SO enjoyed this wee trip away. Blessings.
I enjoy watching your video. I dislike background music, and your videos don't have thzt. Your videos are perfect and enlightening. I've had a major hemorrhagic stroke and the Alaskan wilderness will just be a dream for me. Thank you. God bless you
Miss seeing you and Tanya's videos good to see this one .
Sabine. 😇😍
What a wonderful place to camp Gale. I think you must be a great buscrafter, Alaska is a good place to training. A big hug my friend. Happy camp!
You are so very lucky with all the beautiful countryside you have got where you live in Alaska.
To have access to your part of the world with such beauty and then to be in the still of the bush with a fire going and your meal cooking in it. I could almost smell the aroma of the forest through your vlog. So nice!
Hi , my names Ian , I’m in north east Scotland and only found you channel three weeks ago , I don’t think I’ve stopped watching it since . Absolutely Love it , keep up the good work and if I may say so the good workmanship also.
What a beautiful view!, a gorgeous nature, large and widely 💫
Thank you for these videos. After working all week, my husband and I lounge on the couch on Friday nights admiring the effort you put into these videos. Beautifully shot, amazing scenery and now I have to have an onion stuffed with meat.
You truly live an amazing life friend. God Bless
All your videos are a treat to watch but my most favourite one is one of your early trips when you went solo winter camping in a bright orange hot tent with Stella. Watching you being able to camp and enjoy it in those conditions is mind blowing to me. And then there is the igloo building which was fascinating. This one is interesting and informative as usual. I didn’t know porcupines could climb trees but now I do. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos - I very much appreciate it.
Nice relaxing camp site.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
great Video Gale, so impressive landscape and a wonderful sunset
I loved this trip. What a great way to spend time alone. Your self sufficiency is everything. I am with your followers on the onion dish looks interesting.
Gale, that looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing.
I still dream of the days of living in the bush especially the jungle, now of course just watching on KZhead ha ha, sadly no Stella mate 🐕😬. Always keep one's revolver at hand, 👍.
Great little trip into the wilderness for a little alone time. Nice. Key equipment, Hacksaw, large tarp, fir starter, and a very sharp Axe. Curious to see how the food turned out, and if the bears came visiting. Great to see you again. - Pete
What a view. What a view.
Another great adventure you have taken us on. Such beautiful country. Your dinner looked so good! There is nothing like a potato and an onion cooked in an open fire. We will have to try stuffing them like that. Looks so good. You have a beautiful Ford truck. Super nice! Hope Tanya and the family are doing well! Also hope you have a great Father's Day weekend! God bless!
Looks like a fun camping trip. Thanks for sharing
I say this with most respect, they don't make them like they used to,a pleasure watching your videos . The cabin you built two months ago, beautiful!!!
Good Morning Gale - I visited Alaska in June, many years ago. The Midnight Sun was absolutely intoxicating. The big skeeters would drive me nuts. Your camp looks awesome and the scenery is spectacular. Have you ever encountered a bear on a trip like this? Enjoyed this adventure, very glad you shared it with us. Stay Safe. Regards, Randy in Arizona (114 degrees yesterday)
Good morning Randy. The midnight sun is back and as beautiful as ever. I was out last night around 12:30 a.m enjoying the view. Yes, regarding the bears. A number of times. No attacks though. They typically keep their distance. I look forward to sharing my summer camping and bushcraft videos with you. It is an important part of life here. It is so good to hear from you Randy! Have a wonderful weekend
Gale there's something different what I see you always but this is something nice adventure spending the night in beautiful Alaska mountain the view is gorgeous, sometime we need something just spending time by yourself take care.
Hi once again hope you are all well just would like today your country is amazing gos sure made a beautiful earth for us
Very interesting shelter. The onion burger took me by surprise - never seen that before. I will have to try that.
Too beautiful! I love your ingenuity.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Now that's a true onion burger and fries. Stay comfortable.
I wasn't sure if I was on the right channel there for a minute. Nice to see you taking a solo break from all of that hard work. I'm liking the look of that onion surprise too.
hello gale a warm greeting those landscapes look great you made a beautiful video the mountain also looks beautiful without snow when you talk to your family tell them a thousand greetings from sergio ruth nicolas and me and that colombia wishes them luck sergio
Hello Sergio. Always so good to hear from you my friend. Summer is upon us, long days and very short nights. It seems like we work around the clock in the warm weather. It will be gone before we know it. Hugs to you and your whole family. Peace.
Maybe cause I’ve never been to Alaska, but the first thing I think about when I hear Alaska, is grizzly bears. I don’t know if I would ever stop looking over my shoulder. So cool that you do that stuff just to decompress and get away.
Beautiful scenery from your plow point over nighter.
been drinking cowboy coffee for 10 yrs. good thing....we have good well water for the whole house. a treat to shower in. me: 2 heaping teaspoons and level teaspoon of sugar in a coffee cup. pour in boiling water. stir a bit. add a bit of honey. and a little bit of dark chocolate. stir. before drinking a bit of cold water. yummmm
Absolutely! Cowboy coffee is some of the best tasting coffee there is.
@@ThisIsMyAlaska good water helps in all things
I haven’t commented much on your videos lately but can tell you that I never miss one. Such a magical an enchanting setting where you pitched your camp. Well done. Cheers from Toronto!
Hi Gale!! Nice video, very instructive! It must be a special feeling to see the sunset at midnight, in those landscapes, I hope the fire has scared away those mosquitoes, at least so you could have a good night's sleep. As always, thanks for sharing those moments, and I wish you a happy father's day!! Saludos amigo!! Alex from Argentina
Great video as always ! Take care Gale ✌️
Beautiful and peaceful surroundings!
So beautiful!
I hope there's a part 2,was waiting for the salmon onion and buttered spud with soup turned out ,I love living in the north in the land of the midnight sun
👍 Beautiful Alaska, Gale! 👍 Thanks for sharing! 😊
I know what you made the sparks with to start your fire but what was in the thing like a pen that was in your shirt pocket? The amazing grandeur of Alaska that surrounds your little campsite is breathtaking. Stella stayed home with mama. Bless her heart ♥️
The tube is a piece of copper, made for holding and controlling the wick. I make both it and the wick
brother gale thanks for this video one more success in my tastes one day in the year when I go on vacation I do exactly the same thing you did only that instead of a sleeping bag I take a different bag because here it doesn't snow but it rains diary thank you for it gale. for reminding me of those moments and for those landscapes with snow and beautiful sunset with porcupine included greetings
You are welcome Sergio. I love getting up into the mountains and enjoying the summer season. I hope to share several of these trips with you this summer. Peace
Good morning Gale, Beautiful scenery! 😍. Is there a Part II? 🙂
Good morning Kathrine. I will be making a series of survival and bushcraft videos this summer. It is such an important thing it practice and be proficient at.
Hi Gale, my wife and I have watched all your videos and the videography is beautiful, this one especially so. You must cover a lot of miles to go back for the camera. They're a work of art. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks for your magnificent efforts. Paul and Helen, U. K.
Those mountains with the light on them looked stunning, I can see that you’ve done this many times before, it’s very interesting to watch & learn. The food looked delicious. Thanks for another great video & the time it takes to produce for us to enjoy. Ann 🤗
What beautiful landscape. My daughter and I went backpacking in Denali national park a couple decades or so ago, it was so beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful video.
so nice this moment was magic so press to see the second part of the video, best regards from france, dear friend.
Alaska is such a beautiful place , never yet been , but I fell in love with Alaska from a very early age , my ultimate dream is to see the northern lights, Camping must be awesome out there .
Tolles Video 👏🏻😁😊😇🤗
Hi how are you doing? And i hope you enjoy your camping trip. In Ontario Canada the only thing that Protect us in the woods is bear spray and knife or axs . The only one that can carry a side arm is a trapper or a Prospect . Say hi your wife and family and stay safe and sound and take care
Connexion nature, en solitaire..avec le strict minimum.. qualité de vie, sérénité..vous avez une vue..wow wow!!.. magnifique coucher de soleil..bon appétit..et bonne nuit .. superbe vidéo..😁
What a beautiful get away! We all need to escape to places like this sometimes. This is good for the soul
Ooops I pressed send by mistake! You know, this was as good for me to see as it was for you to experience! Thank you for sharing such beauty and peace.
I hear the flies...oh gosh. That time of year....
External frame backpack, nice,.
Otro gran video diferente pero también muy instructivo. Te gusta mucho la acampada ,no me extraña con ese atardecer, con esas vistas solo tú y la naturaleza tiene uno que sentir uno paz
Little guy in the tree as wondering “what the h are ya doin’?!”
no summer in alaska right now 😂😂 wow
Nice video
Hello Gale! Now that’s a nice view didn’t no porcupine climb trees or if I did I forgot lol 😂 have a great Father’s Day tell the family hello from Ga!
Cool truck! It sure doesn't look 30 years old!
Awesome
good night, friend.Excellent video. The panorama is wonderful. The only thing missing is your black dog.-his companion from the previous videos🤗💖🐶🐕
Great video Gale, the sunset is beautiful, thanks for taking us along! Was that a wax stick you used to start the fire with? I hope Tanya and Stella is doing great! Always wanted to visit Alaska, maybe one day I hope! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Good morning Mark. I make my wick from jute rope and wax. It is impervious to water and extremely flammable
@@ThisIsMyAlaska thank you for the response, I appreciate it! 😎
boy i can tell you been doing this since childhood.great video Gale,,,,its Alaska,,,i heard they shut down Yellowstone park, down here.....and those fords rattle haaa
Alone in the wilderness, so beautiful and so quite. 👍 What a man can desire more?
That's totally awesome... except the damn bugs buzzing around constantly
Thanks!
Thank you so much Matt! We appreciate you supporting our project. Much love to you from both of us
@@ThisIsMyAlaska I appreciate the peaceful Friday morning your videos create for me. I love to wake up to them and enjoy a hot cup of coffee
Hey neighbor! Is that rainbow mountain in the background? You picked a great spot to bivouac. It's nice to see what can be done with a minimum of gear... more focus on the experience and place rather than on stuff. I'd sure like to share a camp with you sometime... Peace from Delta.
I really enjoyed this video and the beautiful sky! But I will add “not in this life” :} as my daughter in law would say....give me a hotel! Great video Gale......
Dang Gale, you really shouldn’t talk so much in your videos, it distracts from all of the beauty that is Alaska 😉 Glad to see that no matter what type of adventure you are on, there is always coffee ☕️
I have a fire starter I have got to learn and use it!!
I am watching from India where is temperature is still 38 degree 🥺 Love from India
Thanks for sharing! I can camp vicariously through your videos. How did the dinner turn out? Were those Onion Hamburgers?!
Beautiful country side and good to see you having some time away from renovating 👍May I enquire please as to the make and caliber of that cannon , lol, you are wearing on your hip ? Thank you .
Thanks for sharing this insightful video Gale. Flint and steel is a great fire starter but what was your match stick, waxed lint in a metal tube? I was surprised that you didn’t pack your espresso maker for coffee rather than cowboy style. Both are a treat and better than the stylized brew that some baristas insist on calling coffee. Good seeing that you are taking time for your self in such beauty and peace. It was 106° here in NE Ohio this week with promise of more in July and August. Enjoy that snow! Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
I was looking forward to seeing how your giant onion meatball was going to turn out
Hey....I wanted to see the onion burger!
как же красива девушка Аляска
163K miles on the F150 … practically new! 👍🤣😂
Always just as nice video! How common is it to be attacked by wild animals in Alaska? Have you become one yourself?
Bear and moose attacks do happen each year but with proper care they can be avoided in most cases. I have been camping in these mountains for over half a century now and have never been threatened
Un saludo
Is it ok to leave the coolers on the bed of your truck over night? Thank you. Hope you enjoyed the Serenity. Beautiful state.
