Breathtaking Racing Over The Climbs & Cobbles! | Ronde Van Vlaanderen 2023 Highlights - Men

2023 ж. 1 Сәу.
340 177 Рет қаралды

The Tour of Flanders, or De Ronde van Vlaanderen, marks the grand finale of Flemish spring classics. The second Monument of the season is 273.3 km long, starting in Bruges and ending in Oudenaarde, and takes on the area's most iconic cobbled climbs including the Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont (3 times!) and the Paterberg. Van Aert, Van der Poel and Pogačar look to battle it out again, or will someone else spoil the party?

    • it's really a shame, like gcn and eurosport do a rigth after the race highlight video that is 10x longer, better narrated, and is never uploaded to youtube. Because of work i can never see the races and this short videos are a shame of the potential they can have. LR is really the best solution for us fans of the sport! At least today wasn't a spoiler right on the title.

    • it's not surprising to see MvdP not be able to hang on the Kwaremont since it suits Pogacar so much more (long and steep, riders carry speed into the climb). What's surprising is how Wout wasn't able to hang. MvdP saw him suffering, attacked and promptly dropped Wout, after that it was just him and Pogacar. Something must be wrong with Wout, he doesn't normally get dropped so easily. Even if he's not at the top of his game and loses the wheel, usually he can gradually bring up the velocity and follow a few meters behind. Today, he just got dropped, no problem. He can't be happy about that, he should've been up there.

    • @@S0ulinth3machin3 I do now realize that Pogacar knew if he was to have a real chance of winning, he had to get away on a climb, because the finish is pretty flat, and if MVDP or Wout or both were still with him, most likely he'd end up in 2nd or 3rd place again, as they are both better sprinters.

    • Impressive from Van der Poel to hold the gap pretty close for the last 15mins (considering he was against one of the best TT guys in the world). Mathieu was good today, just not good enough. I do wonder if he hadn't had a few of those splits or that mechanical incident in the middle of the climb if he would have had enough to cover the eventual move.

      @Driver8takeabreak@Driver8takeabreak Жыл бұрын
    • @@Driver8takeabreak MVDP said in an interview that he didn't drop below 400w from the top of the climb to the finish. I'm not sure how much more watts he could have squeezed out if you take away the split and chain jump on the climb, but that's a huge amount of watts at the end of a race like that. I don't think anybody was beating Tadej today. Roll on a MVDP masterclass at Paris Roubaix!

He's not known to be an exceptional time trialer, so I a was very impressed how he was actually taking out time on that group behind (a group that had Kung and Wout). Let's not forget his insane watts up the finish climb in Strade a few years back (granted shorter, but still a hard race). Commentators (on GCN) were talking about him wasting energy in the first half of this race, mostly through being at the back of the group (in addition to burning through his teammates really early).

No doubt, Pogacar has been the most dominant rider of this generation, but the greatest of all time requires more than a few seasons of success. He is well on his way to being considered one of the greatest, but he has a long road ahead for G.O.A.T. status. Below is a comparison of Pogacar and Merckx concerning G.C.s, World Championships, and Monuments. • Yeah let's take a look at Eddy merckx records. Won the tour de France 5 times could have been 6 but he got punched in the stomach and received broken ribs. The dude won the tour of Italy 5 times plus the tour of Spain also. World champion 3 times set the World hour record. Eddy also won all 5 monument classics multiple times. What's next, he also won every single race at least one time that was on the calendar from February to October. Ohhh shit I forgot to add multiple track accolades also. Pogacar is a remarkable specimen with amazing tenacity and talent but he is not the greatest cyclist ever. I'll come back to this comment 10 years and apologize if he outdoes Eddy merckx or even gets close....✌️

He just ripped open the gap he needed anyway. OMG that crash though!! Bet the Bahrain guy wishes he'd crashed solo to the left rather than swerving back into the bunch. Ouch!

    @hamishmaxa6509@hamishmaxa6509 Жыл бұрын
    • Agreed. The Bahrain guy is going to be very unpopular in the peloton for awhile. That was ultra dorky, it was something a beginner would do. You don't often see pros just barging into the bunch from the side. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever seen it. And he got disqualified, that's super rare. Dudes get disqualified in sprints, but not for accidentally causing crashes in random places far from the finish. That speaks to how messed up it was.

    • @@tonyg3091 True. A lot of fanboys here. The disease of this time. Wout could win next week, he can distance himself from Mathieu in Paris Roubaix. And Tadej on a less hilly terrain has much less chance against either Mathieu or Wout. So it depends. Just two weeks ago Mathieu went and extended his lead in spite of three worldclass timetrialists behind him. So who was stronger then? Right. And today Tadej was the spectacular winner, deservedly. And we have one Remco Evenepoel too. Not here, but let's see how Tadej or anyone else is going to keep him at bay.

    • Well....MvdP, Thom P and Wout van Aert excel in more cyclng disciplines than Tadej does. So the best cyclist these days is probably Mathieu or Thom since these two can dominate in no less than three very different disciplines. Tadej has it easy, just needs to focus on the road and preparing for montjs for this. Wout, Thom and Mathieu have a vaslty different and more difficult preparation and still win.

      @jaysimoes3705@jaysimoes3705 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jaysimoes3705 Easy? Are you delusional? Wout and Mathieu are pure classics guys and they have more difficult preparation then Tadej? If its so easy tell me how many riders who won TdF also won more than two classics.. Bro there is a reason that there are only 2 guys that won Flanders and TdF in like 100 years... Now its three. Also its not that hard to come from cross to road. Its superhard if its opposite and you go from road to cross but If you started from cross its actually not that hard at all.

      @fangru7294@fangru7294 Жыл бұрын
    • @@fangru7294 COmparetively he has it easier yes. Cyclocross is a good preparation, but you may have noticed that Pidcock did not go for the WC in February 5th because of preparations for the road season. There are several reasons for this, one is weight: for cyclocross (and Paris Roubaix) putting on extra weight is good. It is not good to lose it quickly etc. Tadej, like a teammember of him (Dutch) said last week has it indeed "easy". His words. He just picks up a list of possible races and that is how he goes into the season. having a 1,5 month or more headstart on guys that needed to peak from december to february. If you think it is not a whole lot tougher to have an extra season where you need to peak rather than to train in winter, I guess you have no idea what you are talking about. In NL and Flanders quite a few commentators ask for these guys to quit cyclocross to reach a better level.
