In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to music from international sensation Dimash for the first time. He's singing SOS d'un terrien en détresse, a song originally written in the late 1970's. I had never heard of him nor heard him sing before, and I was quite taken with his talent and impeccable technique. I hope you enjoy!

  • Dimash is a 29-year-old Kazakh vocalist and composer; He speaks Kasakh, Russian and English and is learning Mandarin Chinese. He sings in more than 14 languages, plays 7 musical instruments. He graduated from the Kazakhstan University of Arts with a master's degree in composition and I was informed that he has already completed a doctorate in musicology. He also dances, acts and is an advertising model (he is 6.3 feet tall). He has received countless awards and honors around the world. He was recently in Los Angeles, USA, working on new material of his that his fans (he affectionately calls us "dears") are looking forward to. He is a kind, polite and compassionate person, proud of his culture and his country.

  • Thank you for reacting to this amazing artist. I tell you there is much more than this by Dimash! You don`t heart the lowest and not the highest note of him. In addition to his great technique it`s his feeling for music. He is also a fabulous entertainer on stage. There are so many great performances of him. For example: "Ave Maria" and "Stranger" (new composition by Igor Krutoy for Dimash), "El Amor En Ti" at his Almaty concert (composer Dimash), "Autumn strong" at his Arnau tour (Mandarin/Chinese cover) But he did also pop, traditional Kazakh folk, rap ...

  • It is so refreshing to finally find a reactor that took the time to do his own research on Dimash. So many others dive into Dimash and then ask the listeners to bring them up to speed. Excellent job. Now, all you have to do is sit back and be amazed at his talent. Dimash does vocal training for 3-5 hours a day, every day. He made a statement that if you were to cut open his heart, you would see music. I hope you continue to listen to Dimash. He is not just a singer. He is a true performer and totally immerses himself in every song he sings. He has input into everything about his music. He still does vocal training for 3-5 hours a day every day. He also had a concert in New York that sold out. There were "Dears", the name he has given his fans, from 47 States and 54 countries. With all that he has going for himself, he is a very humble person and never misses an opportunity to acknowledge everyone who works with him. Before you become too inundated with suggestions, I would like to recommend Love Is Like A Dream, Sinful Passion, Your Love, Oplympico, Ave Maria, Ikanaide, Love Of Tired Swans, and Stranger. Thank you again for this video and I look forward to more of Dimash from you.

  • Speaking of music composition, Dimash has a relatively recent music video which is 13:40 long, titled The Story of One Sky. He worked for 3 years composing the music for it and also wrote the script for the MV. It is a very moving and hard-hitting piece that you may find particularly interesting and to your liking. • I discovered Dimash 2 months ago, and since then have had to listen to him every day as many times as I can fit in. I try to listen to all his songs, but some still pop up that I had not yet heard. My daily "must hear" is Ikanaide (Japanese for Don't go), which is from the Tokyo 2021 (? might be 2020) Jazz Festival. He sings it in studio, and is wearing a handsome heather green sweater. I also love The Story of One Sky music video (the mini movie that took 3 years for Dimash to write, compose, and act in, because it was a very complex project, with movie-theater quality cinematography. It is about the horror of war, and what we must do to end war. 13 minutes plus long. It is difficult to watch, but if you realize that the meaning of the video is to choose life, it is easier. I love it and have watched it at least 100 times.

I have been a Dear for almost 7 years now and I am more impressed by him, as a musician and as a human being (Dimash is a magnificent soul!) than I was in February 2017, when I first heard him sing SOS! Of all the vocalists I've encountered thus far in my 71 years, Dimash, in my book, is number one - followed by Barbra Streisand! I think you would marvel at his (and Igor Krutoy's) rendition of "Ave Maria" and of course Dimash's 15 minute movie, entitled "The Story of One Sky", which he wrote and composed. However, be forewarned, while it is a true masterpiece, it is truthful and very heavy! You have a new sub, Doug. Thank you for already "getting" our collective Kazakh son/brother!!! • I'm happy that you have taken a listen to Dimash also! I really enjoy listening to reactors who know music, because they appreciate what Dimash is able to do right away! Oh yes, we have many songs to recommend! I think you would enjoy watching a song he composed himself and sang at a recent concert. It's in Spanish and is called "El Amor en Ti". The lyrics were written by a Spanish speaker on his behalf. You will get to have a good listen to some of his different vocal ranges and there is a surprise at the end. Another great song of his that is a must see is "Stranger" from New Wave. Just be aware that it is almost always blocked by KZhead so you will probably need to stop it a few times throughout the song and put some sort of screen over it. But it's worth it! Enjoy! 🇨🇦

  • Please watch more of Dimash's performances, Sir. He sings everything from opera to pop, and sometimes even blends the genres. May I suggest "El Amore En Ti" ? As a classical composer, I think you might really enjoy that one, but be ready for a real magical stage show.

  • Given that you're a composer, you could provide such a different analysis to Dimash's songs! Although Dimash has a very large vocal range he uses the notes he sings to serve the song.. In interviews, he will not talk about his range. There are so many choices that he makes from notes, key changes and remarkably subtle things most of us would love to hear about. PLEASE consider doing more videos on Dimash.

  • I think you'd really like Olympico. Dimash in general is pretty fantastic stuff and youll see more sides of him the more you watch. Hes a superstar in the Eastern world but is trying to make a name for himself in the west as of recently. Not all of his stuff is the flashy stuff, but thats usually what gets recommended because the flashier stuff is what makes him such an outstanding artist. I'd recommend listening to some of the less reacted to performances on Dimash's channel, to prove that its not about ego (as people have falsely said that in the past)

    @Ascension721@Ascension7215 ай бұрын
  • I'd recommend Adagio (2017 version, his international beginning - his technique improved since the performance, but it's great anyway), Stranger, Olimpico (the version on Igor Krutoy's channel), Your Love, Diva Dance (Bastau version), if you know The Fifth Element movie. Maybe also Unforgettable Day (Gakku version), where he sings the highest note of his recorded career (he also composed the song). Regards 🙂

  • As you come to know him better as other musicians and vocalists and vocal coaches have learned, You didn't hear his whistle tone in this performance. He has an incredible whistle register as high as a D8 as a matter of fact, but The high notes in this piece were full on falsetto in the soprano register. He's an anomaly and what would be whistle register for other vocalists he sings in his falsetto. Looking forward to many more Dimash reactions from you.

    @addison5938@addison59385 ай бұрын
    • You're 100% right about his falsetto in the soprano register. We can hear his whistle tone in the 7th and 8th octave. For Dimash, everything in the 6th octave is head voice ou falsetto in the soprano register.

  • 👍👍👍👏👏👏🌷💕🌷💕Great comments and analysis and reaction!!! So happy you found Dimash, for he is indeed the greatest singer of all time! However amazing SOS was, it was only the tip of the iceberg of Dimash’s talent. These were neither the lowest nor the highest notes he can sing. Actually the highest in record so far is a D8, which he inadvertently sang in Unforgettable Day (a song he composed at age 17) at the 2017 Gakku music festival. He never did it again, possibly because he doesn’t do high notes for show but to underline emotions. His lowest appear in several songs. He can sing in any style as you sampled already, and loves mixing them within one song or one line. Suggestions for more Dimash: For Olympic level vocal acrobatics: Sinful Passion. For variety of styles: Stranger. For classical style: Ti Amo Cosi (trio with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina). Ballad: Adagio (version at Singer 2017). Rock: Go Go Power Rangers; Queen Medley (with the Super Vocal Boys); pop and rap: Be with Me (the MV). Jazz funk and folk: Dudarai (on cctv 1). Just marvelous: Love Is like a Dream; Know (especially the Vocalise version); The Love of Tired Swans; The Meaning of Eternity. Examples of genius: The Story of One Sky (the musical mini movie); El Amor en Ti. These are for starters. Looking forward to your reactions!!!👍🌷

  • Some things that make Dimash a different singer are his absolute pitch and the ability to perceive and reproduce microtonalities (which currently reach 32 semitones and which is not a common scale in the West, which uses the well-tempered scale of 7 tones and 5 semitones ). He is also a phenomenal composer and arranger, a fact that complements his singing, as everything that needs to be done is already built into his mind! Dimash is a graduate of the University of the Arts in piano, opera, contemporary and jazz, has a master's degree in composition, plays seven musical instruments and is currently completing a doctorate in musicology. The complexity of the works created by Dimash (such as “The Story Of One Sky” and “El Amor En Ti”) demonstrates that, in addition to being a singer, Dimash can assert himself as one of the most talented modern composers!
