Which Land Cruiser is the best ? Answer: Yes.
People aren't upset about the change from V8 to 4 cylinder because they are worried about power. They are complaining about it because a boosted 4 cylinder with electric assist won't last as long as the under stressed V8 or even the older sixes. You could buy an older Land Cruiser and pass it down to your kids.
I just towed a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram diesel on a 22' utility trailer with our 200 series Cruiser. Try doing that with the new one, nope never happen.
all dinosaur talk here. Look forward into the future!
Spot on
@@mcapone1980 reliability is dinosaur 🤡🤡🤡
@@safeandeffectivelol how you know?
I am worried about the dealer markups.
yes , let the rich kids and dealers fight over them
If they do it, it won't last long. No one has any money. We're freefalling into the deep part of the recession.
absolutley!
Yep, for a First Edition our dealer wants $10K over! Hey, at 10K over they can keep it. I will go for the Lexus twin, the GX550. A Land Cruiser badge is not that important.
and a v6 @@jamesemanner9671
The only thing I'll hate about it is the dealer markups.
The only think I hate about the new Landcruiser is the 10K to 15K markup over MSRP.
We are headed toward a nasty recession, possibly stagflation. Give it a year and this will be a non-issue.
Used to be 90k. Now it’s 60k
Dealer mark ups is what he's commenting on.
Toyota thinks that tipping a dealer $15k for doing nothing is just American culture.
The diesel version sold in Europe actually does have a 3rd row, and it's spacious enough that even tall adults, up to like 6' 3" can sit there in relative comfort
I’m worried about longevity of the drive train. The v8 easily went to 300k+. Add a turbo and hybrid system these won’t touch the reliability that the LC badge is pretty much known for
From my observations...It seems over seas that there's more Land Cruisers diving around than Prados
Toyota already has problems with turbos in the new V6 Tundras.
Toyota put a Man Bun on the Land Cruiser...
I like it, and would definitely be interested in buying one. However, by the time the Southern Toyota Distributors, and the dealers in my area get through with their add-ons, plus the Dealer mark-up, the MSRP will be irrelevant. So, I really don't see a new Land Cruiser in my future.
That's where I'm at. I might try giving Car Edge a call to see if they have any way to help. If not maybe pick up a 4runner.
The only concerns I have is the dealership ADM. Why can't you guys just do MSRP (Monroney) and not add an addendum sticker. These rigs will be modified as soon as they leave the lot. Therefore, I'm out and will find a 1958 several years down the road from a private party and pay cash. That's what I did with my FJC TT, which is still my daily driver. Thanks Jeff!
Hi Jeff, those prices you mentioned are MSRP. Real world prices are $5-10K more. The new LC's are basically glorified 4Runners. For that, I'd stick with my 5th gen 4Runner.
True I cannot predict what every dealership will sell them at :)
Just don't pay it. With my 4runner I just looked country wide. You can find the normal dealers if you feel like driving.
Try $10k - $20k more. Rav4 Hybrids are currently going $10-$12k **over** MSRP, Sorry Toyota - none of your products are THAT good...
@@mattclark1278Your comment didn’t age well. They can’t give them away now.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q Wrong. Show me a dealer in California that is charging less than MSRP for a Rav4 Hybrid or LC. I'll even give you Sequoia, 4Runner, Tundra and Tacomas. Go. Spoiler: there are none. The Dealers and Wholesalers still have prices pegged at MSRP+
$55K and up (probably over $60K with destination and taxes) with no options may be less expensive than the prior gen, but it's still beyond how much most American families should be spending on a vehicle...
$65k - $80k with teh dealer markups over MSRP. This idiot is a car salesman pulling everyone's chain.
You make NO sense
All you have to say is that it’s out of Your price range. Not in your budget. And eff off. lol.
@@artieartyaI think they're probably basing it off of the national family average take home pay. The majority of the country live paycheck to paycheck and cant afford to even save money for an emergency fund, so I would agree that most shouldn't be putting themselves in debt for a vehicle like this.
I've had a 80, 100, and now 200 series...I've used my 3rd row like 3 times across all three models. What I am bent on, is the tailgate going away.
I miss the tailgate
I love sitting on my LC200 tailgate on the beach.. ⛱️
I really like the look of this, but I just can't replace my V8 4runner with a 4cyl.
Wouldn’t this 4-Cyl turbo hybrid have more power than your V8? Just asking
@@Toyotajeff Maybe however the *Naturally Asperated V8* will LIVE a lot longer then ANY Turbo Engine.
@@Toyotajeff Yes, undoubtedly. But I like the immediate torque that a V8 can provide and I’m not gonna spend 55-65k on a vehicle that tows less then my current 16 year old SUV.
@@OldDoodbingo
Jeff, My first concern is the placement of the spare tire. Just about every serious off road SUV you can name places the spare on the tailgate for ready access and that is not an option as it was on the last Prado. My second concern is the current absence of a 2 door model with manual transmission. For decades the mid-size (Prado) Land Cruiser offered these options.🤔
4Runner is below, and much preferred. It is so rare to use a spare, even offroading hardcore in a Jeep.
@@TheRayDog The 4Runner is the exception that proves the rule. Land Cruiser 70 Series, Wrangler, Bronco, FJ Cruiser, G-Wagon, Defender and the new Ineos all place the spare on the tailgate where it won't be caked in mud or slathered in road salt and grime. The last generation of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado also offered a tailgate mounted spare across the globe. Buyers who chose that option got upgraded fuel capacity of nearly FORTY! gallons. 🤩
@@rightlanehog3151I agree, they should have put the battery lower where the spare is, and put a spare carrier on the back.
I'm sure the aftermarket will have an option available pretty quickly. That'll free up space for an extra tank underneath for longer range touring. I'm sure the Australians will find a solution.
You could, like the 70 Series, enjoy the flimsy Hilux gearbox...... Thank God for that lovely Aisin torque converter automatic.
I am only going for its tough look. Since I would probably never go off road, so this is perfect for people like me.
At least your honest lol. Most people are afraid to admit this
@@whatsongisthis5691lolz!
I love it, but wish it had a 4.0 V6 option worried about life of 4cyl engine but price seems right. I might buy one in a couple years after I see how they are doing.
I don't know if it will be sold in other markets with the 4.0 V6 but some places will get the 2.7 4cylinder from the current Tacoma.
apparently the hyrbid power in the 4-cylinder covers most of the low-end power and the turbo-engine and hybrid work together on the rest. This is so that the engine technically doesn't get too stressed. I think even Toyota themselves said that the engine had been tested for 1 million miles.
@@faheemabbas3965 that’s awesome to hear! I got a Tacoma, just paid it off, and I really don’t want another car payment but I can see me saving some $$$ and in a couple years getting one, I really want a SUV for 2nd car and this seems to be the best, would love a 4Runner with 4.0 but the used prices are insane and only way to buy a Toyota is new so you don’t have to deal with high miles and crazy prices. I think all this turbo/hybrid stuff I’d much rather trust Toyota than ford or any others, they seem to get things right and make cars that will last!
like the extreme mark up edition
I know it’s hard to like a vehicle for $55k that doesn’t come with the proper engine or seats (cloth)
That puppy is way overpriced
Ur kidding right? LC being almost 100K for almost a decade and this one is half the price. Don’t be poor
I am amazed that you didn’t talk about the rear cargo area and how the battery intrudes into the space giving you less vertical storage area.
I mean I agree with the cloth seats pricing arguement. It takes some mental gymnastics to understand how I can buy a $55000 4Runner and get everything Toyota has but a car starting at $55k doesn’t even give u auto seats or top trim stereo. It’s confusing.
This will be made in Japan on the “famous” land cruiser line, and Toyota will guarantee parts availability for 25 years. That’s what the words “land cruiser” mean.
You can't buy a $55k loaded 4Runner. Those are now $65k with dealer markup.
@@mattclark1278just bought a 4Runner at MSRP many dealers are MRSP dealers
I drive a 2017 turbo diesel GX forturer 4WD in Australia, very basic with cloth trim & manual seats. It has a factory/stock 2 inch lift & rear diff lock. Love it on and off road. 🇦🇺🦘
Really Nice reviewing this vehicle and the points you made….spot on! I really like this vehicle. Looking forward to hearing about option packages.
do you ever get the chance to take measurements? Does the rear hatch compare larger or smaller than the 4Runner?
what scared me is the elevated platform that looks like it is taking up a lot of the height the way the 4runner with 3rd row seats does
I'm curious about how much mechanical stuff can break with two power plants...??
Ask some prius owners its not new tech
@@no_name4adayask the landfills full of toxic batteries.
Yea Toyotas are Known for breaking down lol
How about the 8.3 inches of ground clearance? 4Runner currently has 9.6. What a step backward for a vehicle touted to be an off-road beast.
so true!!!
The new Lexus GX550 will take over that title, maybe? Time will tell.
My wife’s Rav4 LE has 8.4” Of ground clearance. As per Google. Hmmm🤔
HAAAAA love it@@russjowett2137
They put little 31" tires on it so you can put on your own tires, that probably accounts for a lot of that reduced clearance.
My 2019 Honda pilot elite can tow 5000lb. What’s the point of all that torque if it can only tow 6000lb?
Love the look ,but not sure of a 4 cylinder turbo with a battery for long term reliability -time will tell how long the battery and turbo will last.
Not into the hybrid either.
It looks like the batteries add a hump in the back reducing space and height to stretch out and sleep.
Yes, I agree.... And from what I heard the batteries are expensive to replace.
Hard “Pass”
I would have gone way smaller. If it was up to me, Length 186, width 72, height 66, wheelbase 108, ground clearance 10, weight 4,000 lbs, a 4 litre 340 horsepower inline six cylinder for simplicity and reliability. Dual injection, Solid axles so you never need a wheel alignment, swichable 2wd, 4wd high and low. Eight speed automatic. Mild hybrid option. Seats that adjust to fold fully flat. Headunit that is integrated into the dashboard not sticking up. A price point just under $50K. A wheel/tire package with real sidewalls and better ride quality like 275/60/18.
What's the over/under for when the turbos begin to fail and it goes from 300hp to 100hp.
That's my concern too. The turbos do not last long
😂
I think this is way overblown. Toyotas have been doing turbos since the 80's with certain cars. Made in Japan + toyota's track record= pretty solid reliability
Jeff...Great video. Is there any chance in Hades that we will see the Toyota Century SUV in the US?!? 🙏🙏
Jeff any news about 4Runner 6th gen ? Or should I buy current 5th gen
No clue wish I knew but I don’t
My dad had the '76 and later '78 Land Cruiser, with the straight 6 and 4 speed manual in both, the only power window was the rear window. Good times. Now those were Land Cruisers.
This and the new Saquoia are Frankencars. It's hard to comprehend how a new ground-up design can have the batteries simply suck in the back rising 5+ inches above the tailgate opening. It's like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I understand that integrating the batteries into the floor will take time but I'll pass on these until they get that done.
I want to know if the bed is flat for sleeping with the back seats folded up.
Needed 6 cyl engine choice and 3rd row option. It’s a Prado not an 80 series but a much better change in direction from the bloated and ultra plush unobtainium 200 and 300/ LX600 LC’s. It will be nice not looking for a gas station every 225 miles.
Yeah I agree, especially if it was a turbo v6 without the hybrid system. Removing the hybrid system would help reduce the upgrade cost anyways
Get the gx v6 and 3rd row
I am glad they went smaller. They were getting too large for trailing well. The smaller engine will probably not be as reliable. Hopefully it's better than the ecoboost in the Bronco!
Is it me or does this feel like an ad for a Manhattan electronics store from the 1980s?
Gas milage? Do you think it will have a hybrid option?
It is only a hybrid aprox 27mpg but tests are not in
The Tacoma is my favorite
I’m liking the manual.
Let's be clear...the Land Cruiser is a vehicle that was NEVER supposed to have a third row. Ever. Some troop carrier configs sort of made sense for the Japanese military back in the day, but that is a whole different configuration. For civilian POV use, this is not primarily a soccer mom tike carrier or similar concrete jungle taxi of whatever sort. It CAN be used for that, but that isn't the focus. That back end is meant for the utility of other gear...and that's assuming you do not take out the second row for the same. 2 rows makes sense. 3 did NOT belong. There are other vehicles for people who need 3 rows.
Is there any reason to choose the land cruiser over of the GX550 beside the lower price?
Some say it looks better. Others like GX best
Less targeted. $$ cars get targeted in my area
The Land Cruiser gives you physical controls for HVAC.
Fuel economy 27 mpg regular vs 17 mpg premium
2 row. wasted 3rd for me. looks better, price, toyota dealer is 60 miles lexus 250 miles away
i heard the 2024 land cruiser in Canada (North America) only takes premium gas, can i put regular gas in ?
I love the new LC. I think Toyota nailed it. The 200 series didn't exactly sell like hot cakes. Why? Too expensive. Deplorable gas mileage. Useless 3rd row. And huuuge... (although not that much bigger than this one). Honestly, like you said, this slots perfectly above the 4Runner price wise. I personally hate leather seats, so I'm thrilled about the cloth seats on the 1958 edition. I have been waiting for the new 4Runner, but seeing how close they are priced, I may wait a bit more, wait for the guaranteed dealer markups to die down and just get an LC.
I use my third row in my 100 series. Not great but certainly not useless!
Except the 200 doing so poorly in the USA *didn't make sense* in the grand scheme of things. The 200 sold like hotcakes in Australia, Asia, and especially the Middle East. Toyota in their infinite wisdom, however, did ZERO ADVERTISING for it and instead pushed the mall-crawler-only Sequoia because "more space" instead of pushing the same suv the UN deploys to warzones and natural disasters...
Watch these because you are fun (and informative) and fit nicely in the trunk🤣. PS if this has the same easy scratch soft interior plastics as my ‘21 Rav that’s horrific for the $$$.
Haha thank you :)
Not getting the 2.8L diesel engine option. Also what is the price to replace those electric batteries? How long are they warrantied for? Past land cruisers are running strong 20 years later. In 10 years are 2024 Land Cruiser owners gonna be sticker shocked when the dealership say it’s gonna cost $15000 to replace the batteries for that 48ph electric motor? Those are two things I don’t like about it. Plus if the batteries are located in the floor under the cargo mat. If I or anyone wanted to put a Truck Vault or Cargo guide back their doesn’t look like a option.
Yeah I asked about Turbo lag on TRD Jon page. I get that the electric motor increases torque. But when and where? If you’re fully loaded and driving to say Heber City UT in the middle of July. Or in Arizona in July at S.L. With Hi temp. Are you gonna have serious turbo lag doing a simple drive up the hill To flagstaff or Prescott? I had a 2004 Audi 1.8T twin turbo the lag was horrible in summer months trying to get up to speed. I ended up installing a cold air intake to aid in performance. But I’m not a fan of any 4cyl twin turbo. Most of the KZhead poster talking about not caring don’t understand that 200 series LC are going strong and were built before most of them were born. These cars will go 300K if maintained properly.
Is it a possibility of a 3rd row in terms future?
@@redrider7730 thank you
Do the seats lay flat so I can sleep in it?
Better in the 4cylinder? Yes maybe for the first two years. That is a lot of stress on the 4cyl. The old land cruiser was a 300k to 400k vehicle in mileage life. Doubting this one will do the same.
One thing you guys don't get cause you didn't go to college. There is no replacement for displacement 😅 smaller engine has less displacement. Torque and horse power don't matter if it blows from wieght
I’m all in. Saving now. Will go 1958 pulling an OPUS 4. Full ARB aftermarket package. Not concerned about any of these concerns.
That 1958 with whatever you wanna stick to it will look better than anything out there
When seeing the different driving modes "Eco" "Sport" etc, why is there a sedan used as the vehicle. WHY not a LC??
It's a Costco Cruzer not a Land Cruzer
Ya, nope. Try again.
With skid plates, sway bar disconnect, and locking center and rear differentials? Only if that’s how the owner chooses to use it.
with all auto makers its all about our carbon foot print emissions and these models will not be as dependable as the out going models forsure-
Of all the videos none show if the back seat sits flat when down. Anybody know? Would be nice to throw a mat in and sleep
It’s too small? The dimensions are bigger than a 4runner and i think my 4runner is pretty big 😢
Its interesting as an Australian hearing the LC Prado (LC250 in the US) being compared to the LC200. Over here we have the Land Cruiser Prados which are like the little brothers of the Land Cruiser 200s and 300s, and this is the new Prado... So for us it makes total sense that it isnt as big and is a 4cyl, but i can totally see why many US buyers would be very confused lol.
I think it looks amazing. The only SUV I think looks better is the new 70 series. If dealer mark ups aren’t criminal (below 10k) then I’ll buy. I don’t hate the 4banger but I am concerned about longevity of a high output 4 cylinder. Chevy went the extra mile and integrated diesel tech into their new 4banger for durability but Toyota hasn’t mentioned any details on their new engine. Time will tell.
Just on principle, I won’t pay a dealer markup. Looks great, but I’ll wait until the market softens. But I know people that want that capability now, and if they’re willing to pay markups, power to them.
@@vincebadagnani181 in my experience, all new vehicles are marked up. Buying new is never a pleasant experience but I hate it less than buying used…. Unless it’s a vintage vehicle that I plan on restoring.
I think they should have put the batteries under the floor, and put the spare on the rear.
I don't hate the car but it's not for me I want reliability and mechanical reliability as well and that's what the 4Runner brings I don't think the new 4Runners going to be that good be honest with you that's why I'm currently looking for a 5th gen I currently only fourth-gen love it
Very well articulated perspectives. Thank you for sharing!
Love the two tone paint job - reminds me of the FJ Cruiser.
Is new 250 land cruiser come with third row seats ?!
The question is how much does it cost to repair or replace the hybrid drive train when it does go bad? We all know this model will likely have longevity issues compared to previous editions.
Toy should have named it Land Cruiser Jr.
i really like it and like the cloth/tweed interior. i don't want leather anyway. hopefully the turbo/hybrid engine lasts and the prices don't ridiculous.
Dude, you're really good at making content. I feel like a lot of others lack the charisma you have. Subscribed.
24 tacoma vs 24 land cruiser? or wait for 4runner? daily drive w/ camping in mind.
I wouldnt hold your breath on that mpg comment. The lexus gx came out with similar set up and the mpg only went down a whopping ONE mpg from the previous model.
That was for the TTV6 which I believe isn't a hybrid. The GX550 has been confirmed by Lexus to get the new Land Cruiser's hybrid turbo 4-cylinder engine sometime next year, most likely late 2024. It will not be available at the GX550's initial launch.
I really like the new design, but the hybrid battery third row delete option is disappointing.
Jeff, How much does Mr Kilmer charge for supplying video titles? 😉🤣
In Australia, that isn't a Land Cruiser - it's the smaller Prado. The Land Cruiser now has a V6 diesel (they dropped the V8 with the intro of the new 300 series). The 2.8 diesel in this new Prado is what we have had here for years in the HiLux ute. They are gutless and known for problems. While this new model is a huge improvement on the current Prado we have here, the engine choice is going to cost them a lot of sales.
What's the safety rating?
If Toyota doesn’t drastically increase their production capacities those who want one will be paying huge markups for the foreseeable future.
Thats why I'm in no hurry to get one. I'll stick with my 2005 LC. Since I'm only using it as my weekend vehicle with no issues, might as well wait and get a GX550 used/certified in the future. I'd rather have the turbo 6 over the 4 pot with hybrid. One more thing that will be an issue(battery) in the future.
NA v8 = strong reliability Stressed 4 cylinder/hybrid = premature failure/money pit
Got a little excited when I heard about the new model but after this I realize it's not for me. Not a fan of the interior. Plus I'm guessing they will sell for $75k after markup.
Toyota doesn't know how to do proper 3rd row seats. Therefore, it's a good thing that they left it out on this one. Plus, people rarely use those things anyway which just adds weight and eats up cargo space.
Everyone be forgetting the sequoia exists
Jeff, On the positive side, the price came way down and the styling is terrific especially the two tone paint. It is thrilling to see Toyota finally got the memo on providing ample leg and headroom. 👏👏👏👏
Nailed it again hog! Have a great weekend friend

Don't really think price really came down, because this is basically what the next gen 4runner would have been. GX has always shared the same platform as the 4runner so not a true Land Cruiser like the last gen that was discontinued in 2021. 2024 GX = 2024 4Runner/LC in true terms
@@gotcoke795 That's funny, people around the world who drive a Land Cruiser 70 Series consider it to be the 'true' Land Cruiser. They think of the Prado or 200/300 Series as overweight, over complicated station wagons*. The fact is, the 200 Series sold in appallingly low numbers because Toyota inexplicably priced in on par with the Lexus LX. Ideally it should have come with a 1GR-FE engine or a 2GR-FE engine, at least one trim with this engine option. One trim in manual transmission option maybe reinstate the 3rd row seat on those trim models.
Toyota isn’t in the business to sell one off configurations. Those would sell terribly.

This is a 4cyl FJ cruiser definitely not a full scale Land Cruiser. The Lc300 Land Cruiser is much larger and much more luxuries there is almost no comparison. I still think it should’ve had the 6 cyl option.
This is technically the Prado, but they killed that nameplate for this generation. I looked on Toyota's global newsroom website and they're calling this just the "Land Cruiser 250 series".
get ready for dealer mark ups
Is there a hybrid version
Buyets must master “the art of walking away” if dealers add unreasonable markup.
At 8:24. Is that the battery vent? My dogs ride in the back of the truck, their hair would clogged it…. UPS 😬
If it will be available with a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated engine with decent power I would seriously consider it. I will not buy one if they are only available with a slushbox ! Lucky, my 2010 6 speed manual TRD Offroad Tacoma that got a new FREE frame in 2019 is still going strong and only has 130k miles on it.
Keep your gem, these won't have either, modern worldly garbage big companies are feeding us with.
This video is obviously clickbait. I will only buy a vehicle with cloth seats, no sun roof, level beltline, level roofline, boxy upright ans spacious cabin, upright A, B and C pillars, with clear visibility, generous cargo area and good ground clearance. This vehicle has all those features I love and will pay for. My main concern is the NMH battery longevity, maintenance and replacement cost.
Why not the V6 the option from the Tundra!?
I don't like the lower ground clearance, approach and departure angles.
I'm ok with cloth as long as they are easy to clean and don't show dirt, being an off road vehicle. Also would like rubber flooring instead of carpet. I have 2 kids and 2 very large long haired dogs. I would like something like this so my dogs can have a/c in the summer. Right now I have a bare bones 2019 tacoma with a soft topper and rubber bed mat for the dogs, but it does get hot for them. Having carpet and cloth seats, it really does attract the dog hair, even if they aren't in the cab. As far as the other complaints, it's really a non issue for me. It may not be for everyone, but I think for the segment it is going after, especially the price point, it's should sell really well. As long as dealers don't get greedy.
I got a kick out of the Hyundai ad about Wah. Wah is what you scream when it bursts into flames in your garage.

I will keep my 2020 LC, 28K miles on it....will also hold on to my 2022 4Runner TRD ORP, 15K miles. for a long time...but I will have to say the 1958 model is a lot of throw back to the first LC I ever looked at closely, a beautiful tan 1982 LC, that one vehicle stuck in my head
The second row seats don’t lie flat for camping out inside the vehicle.
Add a drawer to the truck and it will
If the 6th gen 4runner TRD off road with iforce is more expensive than a landcruiser 1958 then I might just buy that instead... when my 5th gen is due for replacement
Is it too much to ask for MSRP for the Landcruiser from most Toyota dealerships? Lol. 😂
