After several superhero movies and lots of heated discussions online, Zack Snyder is returning to the genre that helped launch his directing career: zombies. Army of the Dead (not a sequel to Dawn of the Dead) is definitely not going to be as controversial as his DC films, but is it a better movie?
Army of the Dead definitely raises some questions. Like is everything so blurry? Why did Tanaka plan a fake heist when he could have just hired them for the thing he really wanted? Why are some zombies robots?! Why does everyone let Martin roam around free when they all suspect he’s up to something. Why didn’t Martin leave once he had what he came for and was standing by the exit? How were they planning on transporting all that cash? How did the Alpha catch up to their helicopter on a horse?

His fans have the lowest standards. It's not hard to please someone with bad taste and a very low bar.
The weird thing is that Snyder though not a great director is considered a master of stylish scenes and this movie is pretty much not stylish.

I'm kinda of a fan of snyder but this made me look at things in a different perspective. Golden comment
How to make a Synder: 1. Come up with cool concept 2. Ignore concept, add plot holes 3. Come up with cool shots 4. Ruin shots with ugly CGI and filters 5. Add way too much slow 6. Repeat steps 2-5 until you hit the 2:30+ mark 7. End

The only disagreement I have is that you said in 4 to ruin shots, which makes it sound like it was good without the CGI

@@littlehamilton117 To be fair, you'd have to build a ladder or structure to actually climb those containers, and I don't think the zombies reached the "building basic structures" part of their tech tree yet.

I love how there were so many ridiculous points to the movie that he didn't even mention that two zombies were able to conceive an actual zombie baby.
I originally though that the woman was pregnant before she turned but given the timeline, Vegas had clearly been walled off for years at this point, so that wouldn't work unless the fetus was just forever at that stage of the pregnancy or as you said, zombies can conceive...which then raises the question, is Zeus monogamous? I mean, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas so even him falling in love with a Vegas showgirl is a cliche. ;)
@@andrewshandle Snyder mentioned in the latest interview with Tyrone Magnus that the baby was conceived while the couple were Zombies already and that he wanted to shoot a scene were they showed the ritual for preparing Zombie sex with an alpha... I love Snyder but dude wtf
With how much Snyder messes with things, they're not even zombies anymore. Not by Romero's standards and not the modern infected sort either. Change the name to orcs and aliens, it'd fit right in. If they had the orcs from Middle Earth enter a dimensional portal and end up in Las Vegas, it'd still make more sense than this garbage movie.

But somehow everyone else agreed on calling them zombies, and now what zombies used to be and where that concept came from has absolutely nothing to do with what zombies are generally understood to be today.

I love the foreshadowing 30 minutes in when they're explaining the plan and one of the guys just leaves and says they're all gonna die, smartest guy in the whole movie.

One of the stupidest characters ever written was his daughter, there's a timed nuke coming but she says "lemme save my friend and pray you get the helicopter and pray we can outrun a nuke blowing up"
aaand pray from the beginning that she actually is fast enough to get there on time, doesn't get killed by any of the many zombies, and finds two people in a whole building... terribly funny planning
And leaving the two children without a guardian... Yeah very caring..
and she's also gambling that her friend is even still alive. She's going on the tiniest chance without any evidence to suggest she's still alive.

Zack Snyder said he loved working with Netflix because they let him do whatever he wanted. After this movie, I guess we know why he encounters a lot of resistance with other studios.

@Talebird K Well, when his studio movies like BvS and JL contain far too much material to fit into the runtime that he’s supposed to be hitting, whose fault is that? A studio telling a director to cut a super-long movie to a length that they can actually release is going to turn what might otherwise have been a decent movie into a train wreck. What the studio needed to do was put him on a shorter leash in the first place.

It could have been in there when the mom was zombified but since mother and fetus blood dont normally mix I think they had zombie shreks BUT if it was a pure zombieblood baby , why tf would it need to survive in the womb... That contradicts the whole fact of it being zombie

The zombies were intelligent because of the Alpha. Alpha zombies in this movie are different. It's not that hard to believe that in this movie world they can have babies as well.

This is why it seems as if a 9 year old wrote it, they do not have any clue how reality works and especially not how the military operates. You can fake it and make it seem believable, but this isn't close. This is apparent from the very beginning. "Here comes a car wildly swerving all over the road, we aren't going to mention it at all on the radio tho, even though this is somehow some of the most important cargo ever." And they got a small amount of the biggest stooges in the military to escort it, people who don't follow procedure or commands at all, in a container that pops open when it's jarred. Then they dump a bunch of parachute guys over the top of hordes of zombies. Because, yeah, why not... That's how the military works right?
I'm starting to suspect film writers are deliberately writing movies that are suitable for pitch meetings.

Fact, no sacrifice would have been needed. But yes i was thinking the same thing.
You know... if he had just been straight with them. They could have cut the queen zombies' head off immediately, when they sacrificed the dickhead. (Because he actually knew that this was the queen zombie but said nothing). Then got on the bus with days to spare. Paid them their 50 million (if the head is worth 2 billion "it's worth 10 times as much", I think you can part with 2.5%).
There is a scene where they explain that some of tanakas men that already tried to get down in the vault. he recruited the protagonist because the dude had been inside the city when the outbreak first began. do you all even watch the movie???

Watched the "50 shades of Gray" Screenrant last night from three years ago and this today. As funny as it was years ago, the humor is so much more refined in these newer ones. Like he's much less shy to do the voices and act silly on camera.
Yes, I didn't understand the whole point of having the heist. (Tanaka could have lied that they are looking for a remedy and blood/head of the queen zombie is the answer.)
The lie and heist could have worked, if part of the twist was Tanaka didn't actually have the money to pay them and they were essentially retrieving the money they'd be paid with.

Srsly if the friend died in the helicopter crash, her going in was completely worthless. Her friend would have died either way, only instead if she didn’t come along, her dad and the pilot would’ve survived since they didn’t try to rescue her
Not to mention, the Alpha Zombie's metal mask (with giant eyeholes), that protects him from thousands of headshots. I was like, "REALLY? Not one single shot in the eye?" The one guy was even a headshot master, and couldn't get an eye shot??
Or simple metal fatigue. Or you know the force exerted on that mask would have destroyed the zombie's skull.

Sometimes you watch a movie and enjoy it and it’s not until the pitch meeting video that you realize all the plot holes. Army of the dead was not one of those movies.

That factor is consistent throughout many Zombie movies. It depends on your immune system, the severity of the bite, and physical activity after getting bitten. Everybody's system reacts differently.

I'm shocked he didn't bring up how they could have escaped on the Helicopter, but they decided to stop and have a heart to heart on the roof, giving the Zombie lord all the time he needed. And then how he just let the zombie run at the copter without firing a single shot at it.
They were way too chilled about the whole situation.
I kept saying get on the damn chopper!! Plus, once they get on..they could have flown straight up so the alpha couldn't just casually JUMP on board

Nothing is worse than the fact that the Alpha zombie watched the helicopter fly off but in the next scene you can see the helicopter behind him while he's riding the horse. And also how is every single person such an expert marksman? Even Katie was landing headshots like she's Deadshot or Deadpool
The dumber the move, the more fun these videos are. This one was a riot!

I expected something about the first scene, where the most important cargo was escorted by the most incompetent team leader, in vehicles made of solidified nitroglycerine. Blind too: at night, on a straight road, they see the car's light only when it's literally on top of them. That whole thing was so long and painful to watch. I admire your resilience.

I knew this movie wasn't worth 2 hours of my time just from the previews, Pitch meeting confirmed it.
This was probably better than the actual movie. Not even gonna bother! Hell I may watch he pitch meeting again.

The over-the-top one-dimensional characters already made it impossible for me to enjoy. Plus the idea of a bunch of people going into a zombie-invested town just to get some money there also didn't make me care much about what happens to them. Which ones of them will still be alive in the end? Well.....let's see if there's something else on tv.

I like how Screenwriter Guy tries to avoid giving an answer on the robot zombies. Then Producer Guy really presses him and directly asks, “Why are some of the zombies robots?” And SW guy still avoids it anyway. (Some might say he used ‘The Continuing’ from the Maze Runner pitch.)

Zombie King made a Helmet for himself from a Zombie Blacksmith but didn't make one for his Pregnant wife

This movie truly had so many hole even duck tape couldn't save it, I mean practically every single satisfying thing that happened, didn't have a point.

I still don't get the part about Katie being pissed off with coyote for taking the mother inside and leaving the children but then chooses to go inside as well instead of staying back and taking care of the children and making sure they get on a plane safely

I want the beginning credits sequence to be turned into a feature length movie. It actually had a full story and character development. It was the best 4 minutes of the movie!
I mean theres talks of a animated prequel. That answers alotnof the questions(well hopefully). So I guess you got what you wanted.
That was honestly a better looking movie than what we got.
I actually cried during the opening credits. Then fell asleep during the remainder of the movie.
That was the only good part. Then the garbage starts.
I actually just said this to a friend after watching it, that the entire opening credits montage would have probably been a better movie than the rest of the movie.
As I was watching this, with pretty much every single plot hole they poked fun at, I was sitting here saying, "Yeah I wondered about that too". Other than Guardians of the Galaxy, I rarely expect much of Dave Bautista movies other than lots of explosions and fight scenes. But WOW this one was a real stinker.
What upset me even more was that this crap was loosely tied in with a good movie called Army of Thieves where we first meet “Dieter” the safe cracker. The actor Mattias Schweighofer also directed it. Snyder had some hand in the story as it’s a prequel to this movie, but it’s infinitely better. It’s loosely tied in as it takes place across Europe and the zombie outbreak is only mentioned in news stories, a couple of conversations and a couple of nightmares had by Dieter. Definitely worth a watch.

This made me remember Vance's buzzsaw that he never bothered used again since his intro.
I feel that the beginning of the movie, the montage and how thee army transported the first zoombie, and how they survived Las Vegas the first time, should have been the actual movie.
It did feel like an entire separate movie was written, filmed and edited then cut up and turned into a fmv someone made when they heard about the sequel.
I thought the exact same thing.
And a heist is going on while ppl are getting turned into zombies. Like they planned the heist and was in the middle of it, but boom zombies.

This movie is what happens when you let a guy like Snyder, who is more concerned with cool visuals, make Peninsula. Peninsula was a decent heist flick set in a zombie apocalypse. Army of the Dead...wasn’t.

Wow Ryan actually didn't go too hard on this one lol, he didn't even mention the zombie pregnancy stuff and how Scott and the others didn't even care about the bomb going off in 20 minutes and took their sweet ass time.

In the movie the zombies have a hierarchy in a way , half way through the movie the female alpha/queen is revealed to be pregnant with a human fetus. And I questioned how a dead body can grow a human fetus.
Longest 20 minutes ever. It had to of taken 10 minutes to pack the bags with money. So to get to the helicopter and hear him say about 9 minutes. 😲
