Finalmouse Starlight-12 Review - Paving the way to legendary aim | New #1 gaming mouse
Top tier, small and medium wireless mice under 50 grams? Who thought we would be here in 2021? Finalmouse continue to push the industry forward and make it exciting, especially for competitive players, and have brought us the mice of the gods. Ambitious name, but once you play with these, you realize it's not that much of an exaggeration.
In the video, I talk about why light weight mice are the way to go, along with some of the features and importance of proper wireless tech. Everything is really well done on these mice, with the exception of the paint work maybe, but it kind of fits that ancient gods theme. The problem is painting magnesium with that level of detail, very difficult apparently. If they do one solid colour, it will be a lot easier and look higher quality.
But that's really not worth talking about when we now have magnesium alloy wireless mice with all top specs and weigh under 46g on my scales (they're actually lighter by calibrated scales, apparently, more like 39 and 45 grams or so, I don't know the exact figures).
They're also very well balanced (didn't mention in the video).
No discount code this time around, not affiliated, just really amazing mice at a pretty good price considering (they're not much more than a G Pro X Superlight, but they're so much better than the G Pro X).
They will continue to make these, so stay tuned for future drops.
Amazing mice. If you can afford them and you can get an order in, I'd highly recommend it!
This video is being released a day before they're available, so you should have plenty of time to figure out if they're for you or not. Hope the video helps.
Enjoy!
Special thanks to Finalmouse team for helping with some footage and info too! Not sponsored, not affiliated, but yes these mice were sent to me for review and testing purposes. All thoughts are my own.

FAQ time 1. No, this video isn't sponsored or an advert 2. No, I was not paid under the table 3. If I was biased, I'd be saying all mice suck except the Xtrfy MZ1 - the shape I designed 4. Yes, this was my last full review, that's why I put in the extra effort and had some fun with it 5. It's my last full review, not an ad. Yeah I wanted to do something special so I put a heap of extra stuff in there, and I explained low weight because I figured it was the best time to do it. But the rest is pretty standard for a review. I even did lots of size comparisons. That was a lot of extra effort, I usually just do one. No appreciation for that though? However i do study mechanical engineering at a university and just by looking at the pictures and the manufacturing on their Twitter you can notice they're cutting corners in every single step.. metal punching is not as expensive as they claim and they could be selling these for 80 dollars and still make reasonable profit... the only things keeping the price high is low availability and Finalmouse's big ego. Sad but true :/

My toughest choice would be which size to buy. The ultralight 2 and also the superlight are my current top 2 mice. Having one the same as my UL2 and one in-between is a tough choice. My hands are around 20.5 x 11 and I fingertip. Would the lighter smaller option be beneficial over the slightly bigger?

"...still at a relatively low price" . You're actually crazy.
Well if you compare it to the superlight then it’s a good deal but the superlight is really expensive too
For what it is, great price.
Actually, this will define the future of the next gen mice on the market. If they achieved this kind of product with that price tag, comparing it to the Logitech G Pro X Superlight, it's a fair price. Superlight = 150 U$D, New finalmouse = $189. it's 39 u$d for the "best mouse" on the market right now. In the future, i bet some company will come out with a mass produced competitive alternative, and yes, 189 will be expensive looking back, but now? it's a fair price.
@@speedfx7989 doubt any company comes out with a magnesium mouse, maybe one day they will but I see them finding another way to achieve the same goal at a lower cost. New materials for sure due to structural strength but I doubt magnesium.

What a magical review 💫
Ah yes, Magnesium! Such a cool and unique element, forged in the stars... just like every single atom other than Hydrogen and Helium! I just don't understand why Finalmouse goes out of its way to make cringy advertising and pull asinine marketing stunts like Aim Gods. Their products are legitimately decent, I bought an UL2 largely based off of your recommendation Zy and I'm very happy with it. Despite having industry-leading specs they clown around giving themselves a bad image. Anyway, aside from the beginning where you just recited needless FM marketing, which doesn't have its place in a review, seems like you were fair. Although I'm definitely still worried about quality control and durability both of which FM have struggled with in the past. Even your red model you showed seems to have some imperfections: in front of the scroll wheel, it looks like a piece chipped off. Would have appreciated more scrutiny, this is a hefty price for a mouse.
Have you tried G wolves mice? They seem like a cheaper alternative, same sensor, same under 50g weight (for skoll mini).
@@harambe9461 wireless?
Yeah the first couple of minutes of this video was... unnecessary at best. I get that he was excited for the mouse, but it was pure marketing bollocks, not something you put in a professional review.
shit you dont know how much i paid mine
With all due respect, and I really respect what you had to say, though I think RJN was joking when he explained that Magnesium was forged in the stars. It's obvious that a bunch of other elements are also forged in the stars. I don't think it's so much FM trying to be clever or cool, but more of RJN just making a light joke. Also I agree with everything else that you had to say. EDIT: Oh yeah, he also claimed to not get paid for this review, and wanted to have fun with this review(He wrote it in the comments). You might not consider it credible, but the joke sounds just too ridiculous for anyone to actually fall for it in the first place. Nobody out there is saying that their Starlight was forged in the stars. I think RJN is getting a lot of flak for his entertaining intro because it's seen as an advertisement.
Nice unbiased review. /s
Good luck on your next journey

Hey, first of all I'd like to thank you for the detailed review. I am currently still using an old Roccat Kone Pure and i am opting to switch to a lighter / wireless mouse. I have had trouble with switches not working properly, because I mainly play League of Legends. So I basically have 2 questions would you still recommend the mouse and if so, is it possible to swap out the switches if they do break ? I feel like I should go for the medium size considering the size my current mouse, although i tend to have a mixture of claw and fingertip grip which could potentially feel ok with the smaller version. Thank you again, hoping for a quick reply before the actual drop, good luck 🤞

They should pay more attention to the paint job though, very poor quality there. Specially in the silver/red one at 1:38 for example you can see the red spray leaking in the silver and vice versa. It would look and feel way better if anodized.

Hello RJN, if lighter mice are better because you need less force/momentum/inertia to move and control it, does it also mean that a plastic pad, which is faster than both glass/hybrid/cloth pads, are the most ideal and optimal since plastic pads have both the smallest static and dynamic frictions which means less force/momentum/inertia? I would think that you want the lowest mouse weight and fastest mousepad in order to maneuver the mouse easier and play with the lowest sensitivity so you can use more arm muscle to control the mouse as more arm motion range = higher muscle memory capacity = higher skill ceiling & consistency, but this is only my theory based on my physics knowledge, I would like to hear you thoughts. Thank you!
hmm, I think weight should go as close to 0 grams as possible but I think there should be a sweet spot for friction. so stopping will be easier
Pretty interesting, Idk about plastic pads but just speed pads in general + light mouse should allow you to lower your sens while still being very fast and it would make you more consistent. Atleast for my movement style, It might work. Lower sens are 100% better for me.
Just got the Zy mouse. Absolute top job! Feels amazing!

Yeah they are paving the way to expensive shit like that. It's the same as phones. One company makes an expensive version of a phone and then all companies start rising the prices of their phones too. That's how you went from having at max 600 bucks for a top tier phone, to over 2000

I feel your criticism of weight isn't as fair as it could be, the dumbbell itself is a much more awkward object to handle than a mouse designed for a hand. If you take a light cardboard box, it would retain the same awkwardness. I believe the reason why some people prefer mice to be a little bit heavier is so that you can feel exactly where your mouse will be moved to and can better gauge this due to the weight. If you have an extremely lightweight mouse, it may be too difficult to micromanage due to every muscle movement amplifying the adjustments you are trying to make (since some people may not be capable of exerting such minute pressures). Though, this does differ person to person and mousepad to mousepad and grip-style to grip-style.
Nice intro. Loved it
You picked the G502 to highlight the difference but how much better a 41g mouse feels compared to the ~60g mice ? Is there a really noticeable gain ?

Quick questions: I really love the look of the phantom but i heard the Tenz one is better, wich one to get?
Can you add a height column to your website? It's the most important imo and yet lacking. For example, the Zowie FK2 was horrible to me but the Razer Viper Mini is perfect (the best shape I've tried, better than Model O)
Magnesium and its alloys are extremely susceptible to galvanic corrosion, which can cause severe attack in the metal resulting in decreased mechanical stability and an unattractive appearance
In other words, it's a shit mouse with shit durability, but it doesn't matter because everyone at Finalmouse will have vanished by the time the 12 year-olds realize they've been scammed. I think we all knew that beforehand.
The magnesium thing is just marketing bullshit so idiots think it's futuristic or something. I wonder if it is even CNC machined like shown here because that's not mentioned on the website.
