  • So is it still brass at this point? Since zinc would boil at the temperatures copper melts, would some of the zinc evaporate, or does it stay bonded/disolved the copper once the brass is made the first time?

  • Sword enthusiast here, you REALLY didn’t unsheathe the blade correctly, you have to have your thumb on the tsuba and push the blade out to break the seal, plus you need to grip the sword from below, that way the cutting edge is facing away from you

  • Your attention to detail is amazing. The Dremel-type tools you used to make designs/patterns were probably one of my favorite parts. If only brass could hold an edge like steel lol. Im just wondering how heavy it turned out.

  • NOW THIS, IS A PROPER KATANA WITH SPACER FITTINGS, AND PEG LOG FOR HANDLE FITTINGS! This is how to respect making a Katana. Most people doesn’t know how to make Fittings and their poorly-skilled Home Made katanas are disrespect when they made wrong instructions on my opinions. Deserves the like! ^^

  • It’s a great display piece. I bet if a steel sword were made, and all but the cutting edge were clad in brass, or a similarly corrosion resistant alloy it would enhance the weapons corrosion resistance while preserving functionality. The only vulnerable part that would be exposed would be the edge, thereby eliminating the need to disassemble for cleaning and oiling. No idea how it would be done, honestly; a thick electro deposited layer would be very time consuming and require a great deal of finishing to expose the edge afterward.

  • You can take a rotary tool and grind a little groove to make a "Hamon" out of copper or whatever you can melt. And if you want to put a blade on that solder a piece of an old sawdlade into it.

  • While its a beautiful sword to look at but its not a strong one as the metal binding was not done at all, a strong sword blade needs molding, folding, layers upon layers with old school hammering or machines for a high end forged blade.
