Tesla has unveiled the latest iteration of its Model 3 Performance vehicle, aptly named the "Highland". This new model, now available in the US, builds on its predecessors with substantial improvements in power, efficiency, and driving dynamics. Priced at $54,380, it also remains eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, enhancing its appeal among electric vehicle enthusiasts.
The Highland version of the Model 3 Performance distinguishes itself with remarkable speed and power specifications. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, thanks to its 510 horsepower engine and a top speed of 163 mph. These figures are not just numbers but translate into a tangible, exhilarating driving experience.
Tesla has also introduced a new 4th generation Performance drive unit in the Highland, which delivers a 22% increase in continuous power and a 32% increase in peak power, alongside a 16% boost in peak torque compared to its predecessor. Remarkably, these enhancements do not compromise energy efficiency; in fact, the new model boasts lower overall energy consumption.
The car's chassis has been performance-tuned to include bespoke hardware that increases stiffness and raises the performance baseline, ensuring a ride that is both quiet and comfortable. The inclusion of forged and staggered 20-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero 4 tires improves traction and enhances comfort, while also increasing the vehicle's range by lowering rolling resistance.
Notably, the Model 3 Performance now features Track Mode V3, which integrates motor, suspension, and cooling controls into a unified system managed by the Tesla Vehicle Dynamics Controller. This upgrade promises a more stable and consistent track driving experience.
Further enhancing its appeal, the Highland sports a more aerodynamic design with reduced drag and improved lift balance, new adaptive damping systems for real-time ride optimization, and redesigned sports seats for better lateral support during dynamic driving. With these updates, Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and performance.
