I purchased both a Model 3 and Model Y a year apart and both have a design in the bottom aero panel underneath the cars. In both cases, a screw or bolt came off and allowed for a portion of the front of this panel to flop down, and hence start to hit the road any time you go through a dip in the road. Eventually, this break off while driving. Also, when it rained, the cars would collect water underneath and get into the underside. This caused mildew and I had to replace the cabin filter earlier. Both cars were less than one year old. Getting both aero panels replaced cost me about $400 each from Tesla. They did not consider this to be covered by warranty. This is a design flaw that needs to be fixed by Tesla. If you do a google search on this subject, you’ll find multiple instances of this by other people.

My partner has had a 2024 Model 3 as a company car for 6 weeks now, and we love it. As MKBHD said, it‘s the perfect EV for beginners, even for me as a stick shift enthusiast, just so quiet and comfortable, yet quick. There is just one problem, and it‘s not the missing stalks: with the facelift, Tesla got rid of the dedicated parking sensors and also the rain sensor. The latter is a big problem, because the variable wiper interval just doesn‘t work anymore. The car almost never notices rain, and we have to use the button on the steering wheel repeatedly, except in some cases when we drive behind another car. The lighter the color of the car in front of us, the more „rain“ the car „sees“. In a queue behind a white truck, the wiper goes berserk, even in a light drizzle.
@j.p.57022 ай бұрын
Missing stalks is a huge learning curve for anyone with prior driving experience. I can understand wanting to move away from a legacy fail point, but it is still a fundamental change. It is like driving in England on the left side of the road or the concept of roundabouts at intersections rather than stop signs and lights. (which, by the way, are fantastic once you learn how they work!) Does the current refresh rely on the cameras for sensing?

Americans aren't known for efficiency but I hope we're getting better. Also a huge problem is it's nearly impossible walk anywhere in most of the US. @@neubauerjoseph"perfect car for ME", not "perfect car" like in there is no better car. And he might be right.
If you do a google search on this subject, you’ll find multiple instances of this by other people.

probably should have taken the $7500...refreshed version probably not worth the difference
nearing the end of 2023, Tesla announced that tax incentives would be changing but that was all they could say about that subject, so shoppers like myself were left to wonder... perhaps there would still be some tax credit? perhaps half of the old offers? it made deciding extremely difficult and many reviewers such as the one here, were similarly impressed by the highland. would you rather buy a new/old car that is basically "obsolete" as soon as you get it (original model 3) or a version that might endure for 5 or more years before another "refresh"? this debate was common at the time. Specifically, this was a complaint with white interiors. Black absorbs light so it's less of an issue with black interiors.
Drove one in Australia couple of weeks back. Main issues are - the glass roof heats up a lot and lets a lot of heat through (why Tesla doesn't do a retractable liner?); the second row seats are not very ergonomic so your legs are raised at an angle too much whereas Model Y has better comfort being a higher seating position for the legs; the lack of indicator stalks is not a great idea for when you need to indicate while still in a turn or to come out of a roundabout.
I have the same exact issues. We often drive thru Death Valley and everybody gets fried
These are important issues but clearly he's blinded by his love for Tesla
Interestingly, the BYD Seal has a much better solar block with less absorption and passthrough of heat on its glass roof.
@@MEDAFamilyFilms Yes, it's MUCH cooler than the M3. Due to the addition of silver in the glass that reflects the heat. Luckily I live in Tasmania, so not the heatwaves as experience on the mainland.
I have owned this car for three months in Malaysia, where it is hot living near the equator. There have been no issues after applying Xpel tints with 35% VLT

Thanks for a great review covering all the bases. As a former Model 3 owner I can appreciate all the changes made. Car IS a huge improvement over the prior M3. Kinda wish it still had stalks, but at least it has the horn where it belongs!
I will be driving one this week in NJ. I’ve had my Model Y for 3+ years and loving it.
Great Review, i love watching your videos. SO informative. Thanks so much
The hook on the bottom of the doors aren't for extra sound proofing, it's for side intrusion safety in the event of impact.
A nice, simple review for a great simple car. I also love this car, I drive a Model Y because I need the extra space, but when i drive the 3, I love how sporty and quick it is, love the view of the hood from drivers seat, something I can really see in my MY! For the price, I think it's the best car you can buy right now, gasser or EV!
A few misses here. The door anchors are for improving safety for side impact from crashes and that high fidelity parking assist is being downplayed hard. You can move the graphic around to show your car in 3D space that allows you to really nail your parking. Another update, correct me if I’m wrong, only one of the old Model 3 rear boot gas struts is actually doing the lifting, which leads to unevenness of the boot lid over the years. On the new one, both struts are mechanised.
Yes but also it doesn't lift as high. Saw a video comparing the last 3 refreshes the other day and he demonstrated this one is much more likely to result in you smacking your head on the boot lid.
@@jonevansauthor Maybe, but this still opens up much more than 90% of sedans. if you can't adjust to not hit your head on this you're the issue, not the boot
Also, and just being nitpicky, the model X does not have an uninterrupted windsheld/roof because the doors hinge off it.
You're wrong. Stand corrected.
And the high fidelity park assist was brought to all versions. I love that free update
Love your reviews, straight to the point. Now looking forward on getting my first EV.
Such an awesome car. The 3D parking assist is my favorite feature other than the speakers and driving experience
I got mine the 6 of december in Sweden, super happy. Same as in the video but white interior. Hade a 2020 model before and it is a big different.

Wow that's nice I also have a model 3 but have not testdriven , have you received your model3 already
Consider treating your windshield with Rain X. It’s great and I never use my windshield wipers.
@@steno_lab Agreed. It is even worthwhile using their wiper fluid if you don't want to do the full treatment.
@@kenlowe-ca Tesla didn’t ditch the stalks to get rid of a fail point, but to save costs, it‘s the same as with the missing sensors. The refreshed model 3 uses only optical cameras for everything, as far as I know.
@@steno_lab We will do that, if everything else fails, but we are still hoping for a software update. Then again, you can only do so much with software.

Okay buddy
I just test drove the car, muscle memory is hard to overcome and I kept moving my left hand for a stalk. The buttons are easy to locate by memory once you get used to it, probably takes about a week to get used to.
Just drove one this weekend. The buttons were learned immediately and going back to a stalk in other cars felt clumsy and unnecessary.
Great review! I agree. I would pick this as my first start EV. I have the Model S 2022 Long range and I enjoy the new Mode 3 2024 Highland much more. The suspension in the new Model 3 is a game changer!

Hi MKBHD, I am from Malaysia and owns the Tesla Model 3 Highland for 1 month. I have been driving the car for street use and very happy with driving experiences.., comfort, responsive and fast, super good sound system, quiet cabin, etc.
How is it using the turning indicators during roundabouts?
@@wemakecookie side point Roundabouts: another thing North Americans have an issue with! We're starting to get them here in Southern Ontario. I have done road trips in Europe and loved how they kept traffic flowing at interchanges and intersections.
@@kenlowe-ca The US seems to be getting more roundabouts as well. I'm pretty sure your European observations match what the studies say. Roundabouts are more efficient and reduce traffic. Americans aren't known for efficiency but I hope we're getting better. Also a huge problem is it's nearly impossible walk anywhere in most of the US. Americans have it backwards they think cars mean freedom but in fact we've built it so we don't have the freedom to walk and bike to places.
@@wemakecookie there is so much air travel between cities on the coasts. Can you imagine a TGV type high speed rail link between say Boston - New York - Washington? Vegas - LA - San Fran?
@@wemakecookie Nobody around here uses turn signals in roundabouts, they are too small and fast flowing for turn signals to be reliable at anything. Even if someone is signaling they are exiting the roundabout, you can't trust what the signal is indicating, that's why no one uses signals in roundabouts around here. Maybe on really big roundabouts where traffic flows relatively slowly, signals might be beneficial, but we don't have roundabouts that big around here.
I actually like your floor seating stunt outside the cars 😂😅
I test drove this the other day. Definitely considering it as my first Tesla. Got a build created. Not sure if to go with the higher mileage 18" black wheels or 19" chrome ones where you lose a little range. The sound system was nice and punchy, and interior ride was quiet. Coming from a 2014 Honda accord coupe.
Also remember to use a referral to get 3 months of FSD, Tesla reps can't add it later once the order is placed. Higher mileage 18" are better, having extra range always help.
I've been driving one for 2 months now and it's great! Gear selector is easy to get used to; indicator on the steering wheel is useless in roundabouts and the suspension is so soft I'm keep knocking the bottom of the car to the kerb as I drive out of the garage 🤦♂️ thankfully I've bought flexible mud flaps, otherwise they would all be broken by now 😅 Other than that I love it. Comfortable, quiet, quick and super efficient. I can recommend ✌️
Yeah, I’m kind of worried about the soft suspension. I love the sporty feel of my 2021 Model 3. It corners like it’s on rails. May I assume the new one has much more noticeable body roll when cornering and pitch when braking?
I got my highland since November, 3000km in, I love how it drives, I love the new interior, but now after 2 months I miss the old model 3 nose. In general I do not regret the purchase, it has lots of real range, can confirm you can get 500-550km out easily highway driving. Non Stalks are not an issue at all.
What is a highland?
Funny when 3 first arrived peeps were slamming the nose

We have one of the first dual motor model 3s delivered in Canada in October 2018. Ours is also a beautiful red, and with free software updates, it has more features than the day we bought it. We're at 110,000 km (68,000 miles), and the battery is currently at 97% of the delivered range estimates. There aren't enough feature improvements to justify us upgrading, but for anyone who was on the fence about a Tesla, DO IT! It is a fundamental paradigm shift that you will not regret embracing. @@lxnd from a safety perspective you actually don’t need turn signals to enter or exit a roundabout. As you wouldn’t enter it unless it’s safe to do so. And when you exit your path is clear anyways.
I'm a bit triggered by the blinkers on the steering wheel. How well does that work when you have to use them while turning like in roundabouts. We have quite a few of those where I live. Also, your speed is displayed on a screen where you have to move your vision completely away from the road. I that good? Can you even see it no matter where the sunlight comes from?

Great review Marques. Other improvement he showed but did not discuss was the blind spot monitoring which is a nice addition. I believe the cameras at least front facing are now 5 MP instead of 1 MPixel. Another youtuber @WHATSINSIDEFAMILY did a 70 mph range test and was pretty close to predicted, 327 versus 333 miles, of course that will vary based on wind, temperatura and grade.
The blind spot indicator light was actually shown at 9:44 but not talked about. However, the camera zoomed in so it was pretty obvious, at least for me.

Thanks so much for the review. I have the current Model 3 2020 and am considering upgrading. My main gripe was the wind noise but you addressed it head on. Does this use a heat pump for heating? Also will this qualify for a Federal Tax credit?
No federal tax credit - but check, you may have a state credit.
I will say in the UK those indicators are not great. We have a lot of roundabouts and I found it SUPER awkward using the indicators (blinkers as a lot of you say) while turning when the steering wheel is upside down.
Great video as always. A suggestion for a themed video- "parking in Europe" it will make you apprecitate nimbleness in vehicles to another level. Choose any medieval city of signifikant size....😊
Improvements ! Yes I rented a 3 for 2 weeks in California single motor (base model from Hertz) and it was great. No complaint and the network of super charger in Cali is great. Then I changed for a model Y dual motor. It's higher, I 6,3 so it was less painful to get in and out of the car. But the speed in acceleration !!! OMG!! It's out of this world. The ride was better on the Y I think because of the tires. I am sold to Tesla now. Never drive before these last 3 weeks and bang! I'm hooked.
I believe they are improving the luxury in the Model 3 to brong its previous standards to the Model 2 to dusting the two and give Model 3 buyers a reason to keep buying the more expensive car rather than the cheaper one (especially knowing how difficult/slow their ramp ups are)
