Moving up in weight was never the problem, it was coming down from heavyweight to light heavyweight that was the problem. That's a weight cut of 20 pounds, and doing that under a year really hurt him.

I love the old Roy Jones Jr. I wish the man didn’t lose that invincibility he once had. It’s just unfortunate for some of the best fighters to deteriorate just before getting passed their primes especially as incredible as Roy. Love him and Iron Mike but Tyson is a true monster. I wanna see him fight David Tua instead, I hope Tua gets in shape and make a comeback ‘coz he’s practically the same cut as Mike. Natural born strength who defies aging.

Maybe watch more Hopkins then, not ther most enjoyable to watch but ya dont get wins over Trinidad/Delahoya/wright/Pascal,Johnson,Pavlik etc etc without being great, and yes hes also a vert dirty fighter who knows all the tricks, but if thats all he used he wouldnt be a great at all because thats not nearly enough to win elite level fights, let alone like 15-20 of them over 25+ year career,Roy Jones jr was better though prime for prime thats for sure.

Scott, I agree. When both were at their very best, Hopkins would be lucky to go 10 rounds with Roy. Funny how early in his career the Olympics screwed Roy, and later in his career, he was screwed again by fighting too long.

Hopkins had the only strategy that could ever beat jones and he used it perfectly, and those tactics could very much handle Jones in his prime as well, beautiful smart fight by Hopkins, he refused to lose and had the plan to match!! I met Hopkins at champs gym in north Philly in 90s when he was just work for guys like prince Charles Williams, ive seen him come into gym on a 10 speed bike, head upstairs at champs and get busy after he probably worked all day to survive

No Joe Calzaghe is the GOAT.... Everyone cries that Jones Jr was past his prime when they fought, but so was Calzaghe, his hands were so bad he hadn't sparred 1 round or hit a heavy bag in 3+ years, and immediately retired after the fight. Just ask Eubank how hard he used to hit, VS the Kessler-Hopkins-Jones fights. Big difference. I doubt ANY fighter in any era of middleweight/super middle/LHeavyweight can keep up with the excruciating pace that Calzaghe puts on you, swamps you with 120 punches a round, and eventually breaks you by the 9th-10th round and piles up a point scorecard win.

I love the old Roy Jones Jr. I wish the man didn’t lose that invincibility he once had. It’s just unfortunate for some of the best fighters to deteriorate just before getting passed their primes especially as incredible as Roy. Love him and Iron Mike but Tyson is a true monster. I wanna see him fight David Tua instead, I hope Tua gets in shape and make a comeback ‘coz he’s practically the same cut as Mike. Natural born strength who defies aging.
