  • My theory on those slugs is that they are essentially repairing damage in the most unique way out there. When the slugs organs can't function at optimal capacity anymore due to diseases, physical trauma or some other stuff with long term damage they just regrow everything. You can kinda imagine it like a alcoholic surviving liver cirrhosis but now the liver works at 30% capacity so the alcoholic just rips out his old liver and grows a new one with 100% capacity. This is just my personal take on why they self decapitate themselfes feel free to tell me your ideas.

  • I literally just wrote a paper on these slugs. They're called sacoglossan sea slugs. There are two researchers from Japan that discovered this. It's so fascinating. They think they are able to survive with just their heads because their surface of their skin is covered with a diverse digestive gland. When these slugs eat algae, they keep back the chloroplasts and digest the rest of the algae. From there, photosynthesis occurs and they can harness all of the energy they need from the sun :) You're welcome
