  • If I look younger here it's because this video is actually 2 years old and it's just taken us this long to feel comfortable releasing it since this is the internet. So please be kind and please consider sharing and donating :)

  • I am in my teens and have autism and I can say everything you said in this video about the autistm spectrum is true. Over time some people can make their own filter, for example: I can still hear everything else, but the person I'm talking to is the main source of my concentration if I focus and at this point at restaurants I just have to listen to 7 different conversations and had to get used to it over time..... Probably why I always cried near the end of every dinner for YEARS.

  • You guys are great. I cannot help but express my deep joy that you exist in this world. I understand that your path is not always easy. I am a single father myself. When my son and I were alone, I was 20, and it was extremely difficult. There were days when I had to give up food just to feed my son. Every time I looked at his smile, I felt that I was ready to endure any difficulties for his sake, to become stronger and better. Today I work as a programmer, and everything was going very well for us. I wish your son and all the children of this world will and happiness. After your video, I realized that I wanted to share these feelings of gratitude and admiration. Thank you for your work and inspiration

He died just a few days before my birthday (I'm currently 14) and this video awakened some of the great memories we had together. I hope you and your son will have the same great experiences as we did, and enjoy each others company as much as my dad and I did. I might not have any dad experience, but from the viewpoint of the son I do know that a healthy father son relationship is really important, and I hope the two of you have that aswel. I wish you nothing but the best of luck in this big journey we call life! :)

    • This is the explanation I use for adults: When you're a child, your brain has one job; to be a sponge. It is specifically wired so that you take in as much information as possible and store it somewhere. This is achieved by specialized neurons, which will decay over time, leaving the brain more "rigid". Autism is a condition where this decay stops or slows prematurely, leaving the brain in a sponge-like state. As a result, people with autism suck up information around them in the same way a sponge sucks up water; it's an involuntary reflex that can't be helped. Most of the behaviours you've maybe seen from autists stem from an attempt to manage this influx of information.

I have actually been trying for YEARS to convince people in our lives (family included) to get her AAC to help her with communication, and seeing your video has pushed people in our lives to agree - you rock! I can't imagine how scary it must be to have this video on the internet, but you have already changed the life of at least one little Mark Rober fan - Lou, my daughter - and I know your vulnerability will make a huge difference to so many others! Lou (short for Louise) is 7, LOVES your videos, and also loves to blow out birthday candles like your son! We spend HOURS on her birthday blowing out candles over and over. She's a cuddler, and her super power is knowing when people need extra snuggles and squeezes, and giving people snuggles to know they're loved! I wish there were a million ways I could say thank you for your vulnerability, because it is DEFINITELY making a difference already!

    • I’m on the spectrum and would really like for people to define acronyms like AAC the first time they drop them in. It makes a difference. OK with that out of the way - HI LOU!!!
