My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle.
We film and edit everything ourselves.
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

  • Re: the bridge! I didn’t see anyone else comment, but please be aware of the diverted stream, Michael. The undercut and diverted stream can lead to sink holes. Remove all debris on either side and allow it to flow through under the bridge as intended. The water will gradually wash out its new path and collapse the road above.

    @Harmon1ca@Harmon1ca3 жыл бұрын
    • yes , you are right , streams need maintainance too and no saying how long that situation has been going on , best get your dad look see the bridge has not suffered , easier to fix a little issue

    • You're right that could become a big problem, even if only a farmer uses the road you can see there are tractor tire marks. Heavy farm machinery could be flipped over if the road/bridge collapses under it.

  • Micheal I’d love to see a map of the property. You’re an amazing artist, if you made a watercolor of the property with all the out building labeled that belong to the property -I’d buy one! I want to come stay (my sister and I are starting to plan it-and we want to stay at your place and Stephanie’s) but I can’t get a lay of the land from your videos. But it would also be good merch for you!

    @prospeaker58@prospeaker583 жыл бұрын
    • just because can draw does not mean he knows all the topography of the land , map drawing is an art and a skill that has little to do with the ability to draw as such , he said himself he has not walked all the land

      @jitaamesuluma9730@jitaamesuluma97303 жыл бұрын
    • Jita'ame suluma -I’m not suggesting he do a topography map. Just a layout so we know what all those buildings are in conjunction with the main house. And some awareness of the land boundaries. As a watercolor-it would be beautiful. All HE needs is an aerial shot to create it.

You really do live in a beautiful place. If I step outside where I live I could be bitten by venomous snakes, scorpions, snapping turtles, tarantulas oh and get run over by a javalina. That last one is a bit of a joke but they are OFTEN seen around my neck of the woods running at top speed lol
