My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle.
We film and edit everything ourselves.
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.
I'm on the LNER to London and a lady on the seat behind asked about what I was watching, so I just put my Ipad on speaker and here we are watching your videos on the train :)
Cool, another subscriber
😊
Saul ...... ❤️
Im new subscriber couple weeks ago. Love it!
Beautiful beautiful land I love the shadow I would love to live in something like that you are so lucky it's a beautiful home I love history I watch you every single day I live in Delaware and I would love to come there keep up doing what you're doing you guys are doing a fantastic job when that place
Re: the bridge! I didn’t see anyone else comment, but please be aware of the diverted stream, Michael. The undercut and diverted stream can lead to sink holes. Remove all debris on either side and allow it to flow through under the bridge as intended. The water will gradually wash out its new path and collapse the road above.
yes , you are right , streams need maintainance too and no saying how long that situation has been going on , best get your dad look see the bridge has not suffered , easier to fix a little issue
You're right that could become a big problem, even if only a farmer uses the road you can see there are tractor tire marks. Heavy farm machinery could be flipped over if the road/bridge collapses under it.
So... When are you publishing an illustrated children's book based on the fairy and troll nooks around the chateau?
Post card,t-shirts, coffee mug and more.... About the Chateau's and around the property. Love it!
🌳🌲🌺🌸🌼🧚🍀💫
@@tp4754 ohhh I would love a mug with one of his drawings on it
"Just trees" oh Michael, Joyce Kilmer would be so disappointed! I could look at trees all day so don't you worry about finding more "interesting" things for us to look at! Everything you share with us is a joy and we are grateful. Thank you for another beautiful video.
Beautiful music that goes together perfectly with the scenery. Aaahhh
Judith Burke - 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇦🇺🐨
100%! Couldn't have said it better myself..
What a sweet enchanting journey..
yes , the trees are worth looking at , for a start even though we have thouse trees here its interesting to see what dominates the landscape there
you know you’re hooked once you memorized the intro😂
Michael, you turn the ordinary into the extraordinary with your interludes. Always a calming way to reduce the stress of the week. 😊
Can you imagine being in lock down in a magical place like this? 😍 thank you for sharing
Thank you Michael fabulous vlog, what a place to be in you are so good to share with us.
We are....
HA! Beware the internet troll under the bridge! Also, the opening sequence was perfectly calming and set my mood right. Thanks for taking us along on your little adventure.
The other side of your lake is like an Impressionist's paradise. So, so gently beautiful. Lovely vlog, Michael xox
Micheal I’d love to see a map of the property. You’re an amazing artist, if you made a watercolor of the property with all the out building labeled that belong to the property -I’d buy one! I want to come stay (my sister and I are starting to plan it-and we want to stay at your place and Stephanie’s) but I can’t get a lay of the land from your videos. But it would also be good merch for you!
just because can draw does not mean he knows all the topography of the land , map drawing is an art and a skill that has little to do with the ability to draw as such , he said himself he has not walked all the land
Jita'ame suluma -I’m not suggesting he do a topography map. Just a layout so we know what all those buildings are in conjunction with the main house. And some awareness of the land boundaries. As a watercolor-it would be beautiful. All HE needs is an aerial shot to create it.
@@prospeaker58 Quite, a decorative artistic representation that doesn't have to be precisely to scale would be a nice item
you could also just follow along on google earth. it's quite fun trying to figure out exactly were everything in the video is. www.google.com/maps/place/Chateau+de+la+Basmaignee/@48.2878389,-0.8534261,791m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m8!3m7!1s0x480916a9fb23b501:0x70c9e9eda9965e3e!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d48.2892795!4d-0.8550215
Hey you should set up a couple of motion cameras there... would love to see the wild boar 🐗 ... what a magical lovely journey
Trail cams all the way :0)
Yes, this!!! I was wondering if anyone else had this thought! How interesting would it be to spy on those little boars. I think it would be most interesting.
The land must look like Narnia in the winter. Soooo beautiful!!!!
Now I have to wait a whole week to find out where you're going. I loved your little tour, and I love the way you narrate and take us all around the property. Maybe sometime you can point out on a map or an aerial view from the drone, just exactly the routes you took us on. Many thanks for all the fantastic and fun videos you do for all of us.
This is by far the best recommendation youtube has ever sent me!!! I'm absolutely hooked on this incredible channel 😍
You have a knack for filming the most beautiful nature footage and pairing it with music that makes the scene feel like a fairytale! Love it!
God, I'd love to paint there. The light is so gorgeous! You should have painting camps at the chateau. It would be a dream come true♡
ALL the yesses! ✨🥰🎨👍🏻
Love love love experiencing your property explorations! Keep ‘em coming. Your music selections are always so grand and majestic, Michael. Gorgeous selections! Enjoy your next adventure! ✈️🛎🎥
Anita Su Jiivana I agree...his filming techniques and music make these very special vlogs. Michael can do everything!
You’re like Peter Rabbit, scurrying through the brambles and under the barbed wire, escaping with your treasure from your garden pillaging!
Watching your channel is my therapy...writting from Tanzania...oh and Stephanie's too😆😆... thank you to the both of you'
The opening spectacular! Those roses are exquisite.
Michael: You have a real genius combining music with visuals....
Best channel on KZhead ☮️💛🙏🏻👍🏻
The intro with the piano was beautiful. The gladiolas, roses, hollyhocks, greenhouse with grapes & more! Someone has a green thumb. Your chateau & it's setting is gorgeous. The castle is lucky to have you, you can do anything & perfectly! I wondered if that was you on the piano? Loved the tour & seeing things through your beautiful spirit. The land of fairies, the magical scenery, wondering what happens if you go in that tree!! Such a sweetheart! Thank you for sharing 😊
I spent countless hours exploring the woods like this when I was young. It takes me back there. Wouldn't this be amazing to watch in VR?! Excellent episode. Boyfriend and I watch these as soon as they come up.
OH! I love the Peter Rabbit bronze in the yard!!! Stunning property and so enjoyed the tour! xo
This video had me Googling dangerous snakes and or dangerous animals that would live in small lakes in France and basically the only thing you'd have to worry about is ticks and that is just...incredible. You really do live in a beautiful place. If I step outside where I live I could be bitten by venomous snakes, scorpions, snapping turtles, tarantulas oh and get run over by a javalina. That last one is a bit of a joke but they are OFTEN seen around my neck of the woods running at top speed lol
I had the same thoughts. I live in north Florida/south Alabama and there is no way I would do similar here in the summer.
A stunning magical mystery tour thank you Michael, have a safe journey, look forward to seeing you next week xx
It looks stunning and so peaceful. What a cute little bridge. Lots of mini b-rolls 😁😁
This is an amazing vlog, feel like I'm actually in an adventure walking through the undergrowth. Perfect x
Hello and thank you for showing us the beautiful place you live lots of love from New Zealand 🌈
You seem to know what's pleasing to the eye then u film it. TY. These are the same things I see in the woods where I live. There's beauty in the small things. ROD STEWERT - There's beauty in the silver singing river, there's beauty in the sunlight in the sky, but none of these or nothing else ...to the beauty in my true loves eyes.
Haha Michael, there is nothing “just” about nature. Thank you for a beautiful artistic, musical video. I loved it, it was JUST what I needed today. Great job with your filming. 🐇🦔🕊🐝🦋🦉
Wow! That was beautiful. Who else could smell the muddy bog and the grass and also kept expecting to see Lord Grantham pop up??
When I was a trainee gardener we used to sting the back of our hands with nettles to reduce hay fever effects . :)
I grew up as a wild farm kid in the '70's in southern British Columbia, Canada... and stinging nettles were the bane of my existence, LOL! But if you put some mud on the sting, it doesn't hurt as bad... farm child wisdom
Rub with dock leaves to neutralise the sting
What would be the equivalent in the U.S.? I would love to try it.
Just love the peace & quite of the area. Appreciate all the hard work & you crawling under wire fences & hedges & brambles to make this most enjoyable vlog. Thank you Michael & have a great trip. ❤️
this was exactly what I was wanting to see next! I would love to explore those grounds.
Woohoo didn’t think we had a vid tonight. Thank you
woooo so happy to see this!!!! i love your videos! x
Magical!A painter's eye view!The music was so peaceful!Thank you!
What a lovely place! I half expected to see Oberon and Titania lounging about with their retinues. Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
Hope you have an amazing trip! Can’t wait to see where you are going!
I absolutely LOVED 💖LOVED this vlog. I love nature and have wanted to see more of the property since you started the channel. It’s absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you for sharing, Michael...that was lovely! Enjoy your trip!
This channel always makes me feel like I am going back in time. I love it!
Oh Michael, Michael, this was so very lovely. It reminded me of the the best part of my childhood, wandering the fields. Thank you.
Loved your “Sir David” excerpt I’m sure Sir David himself would appove ;-))
What a spectacular tour. Y'all are so very blessed.
That beginning montage was so peaceful it brought me to tears, lately it’s been so hectic I haven’t had a chance to sit down and stop, thank you.
You could make campsites in that forest on the far side of the lake and make some money renting them out! I'd camp there!
Great to see you today!..This episode reminds me of the wild boars in the fire swamp scene from The Princess Bride... You make a great Westley...LOL:) Thank You Michael so much:) Cheers!
Thx for the tour Michael. Excited for next week's vlog!
Beautiful tour! Thanks for taking us. Such a wonderful place to live.
Can't do without Michael every week
Michael: " This is were the faeries live" Me: YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Histerically fangirling*.... Leave a treat for them next time you go ;)
Then he's like "When you step into the faerie ring..." And I'm like NOoooo!!! 😆
absolutely magical; the best yet. Thankyou.
Gorgeous property, Michael! Thanks for the tour!
David Attenborough eat your heart out 😂.
Jacqueline Reynolds 😐 sorry I don’t know that
@@jaimeparis5640 Michael was impersonating the wildlife commentator David Attenborough. Its an English expression telling him to watch out.
After watching today's adventure I just needed more Michael. So, I binged watched the entire advent calendar you did with Stephanie at Chateau Diaries. Oh my goodness the two of you together are hilarious, magical and a little naughty. I also watched your Venice trip (one of my favorites).I won't be surprised if producers come knocking at your door soon. God bless
💐Just lovely as always, Michael. Exquisite photography and the flowers are the best! Thank you for the landscape tour - the little stream is so peaceful 💚
Beautiful and relaxing. One of my favourite vlogs so far . Thank you . Enjoy your trip away x
Yes! I didn't miss it!
Lovely to walk in the forest, especially from lock down in Melbourne! The beauty of nature is wonderful.
This is so fun Michael! Thank you for taking us along. :D
This was just spectacular, Michael! What a joy and a blessing to live amidst such beauty!
10:00 at night? Amazingly light still! Thank you for the lovely tour.
This is what my friend does often on his chateau property. He loves going for nature walks on his property!Like you he has an amazing landscape and views.
Have your friend start a channel. One can’t subscribe to too many chateau channels.
@@wildhurstmanor That would be awesome, but,he is too private for that and way too busy.
This was the perfect video to watch after a long busy week. Thank you, Michael
Beautiful as usual!! Amazing and I look forward to your videos!!
You love vintage toys too, as well as paint, collect antiques, love nature and love to restore beautiful things(?!) Why aren't there more people like you around? I'm in need of some nice people to talk to ♡
I spent many childhood holidays in France and I walked through similar forests. The thing you can't pick up is the smell. To me, it has a unique smell. It doesn't smell like British forests. And certainly not like Australian ones. It's so nostalgic to see all this. I so miss France
Brilliant! Your videos are so well done and they keep getting better! Thank You!
This was so peaceful after a stressful day. Thank you!
Loved the adventure into the wilderness, was very informative...you're an Encyclopedia Britannica on two legs and was expecting fairies or tolls at any time 😉. With all that wild boar, Obelix would love it there, lol. Bon voyage!
Thank you Michael, beautifully filmed with exquisite accompaniment; you composed the video as only an artist could. Loved Peter Rabbit. Do be careful of any tickss from the deer as they may carry Lyme disease which is awful. God bless you on your travels.
Loved the walk around the property. It is just beautiful. Looking forward to next's week video. Thanks so much for sharing.
Michael, you have outdone yourself....superb!!!! Safe travels dear heart!
You have such a great eye for beauty. Good job!!!
Ooooo magic! You and Stephanie make everything wonderful - Thank you!
Loved seeing you explore! So much land to use!
your chateau is stunning, the music you choose to use is gorgeous, your personal attitude and ways and speech and likes are unusually lovely--never change!
Beautiful shots, moving music and great editing and storytelling, Michael ~ you are quite the music curator! Thank you for taking us on the faerie forest adventure with you. Looks a little similar to where I live in Northern California. Truly magical ^-^ Sending {{{ ♡ }}} !!! ps ~ just curious, is there poison oak or ivy out there?
Thanks for this Michael! Blessings.
Magical ! Thanks for sharing Michael x
Loved this, Michael! Great adventure!
love watching, you should get some goats to clear that over grown woodland, they would soon have it clear. Regards from Canterbury.
wow!!! thank you for this lovely video! I loved every minute of it! I didn't know it was still day light at 10pm in France! here it last until 9pm to the latest. beautiful, beautiful! can't wait to see where you will be next week! :)
France time is one hour ahead of England, so it is 10pm there to 9pm in England so it appears to be lighter later. We have been there in mid summer and there is still some light near 11pm and you can therefore stay outside much later when socialising.
You have a good connection to this Nature! Thank you so much for sharing yourself and time here! Luv!
Congrats on 150k! Quite remarkable in such a short amount of time 🥳
Lovely at the beginning Micheal..with the beautiful shots of the flowers and calming music. The chateau has lovely grounds . You are indeed lucky to live there. Mind your little dogs ..from the adders.
You should do some metal detecting on your walks you find some cool stuff.
I love your beeoll and colorful images Michael! ! And then he music you choose. Wow, all so relaxing !
Such a stunningly beautiful place to live. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Oh, to be a small doggie living in a French Chataeu...
Love your choice of music ~ so refreshing, soothing. And your filming. *sigh* ☺️
Fantastic video, Michael. I really enjoyed the walk and the original history of the buildings. So interesting. Can't wait to see what you're up to next!
10 p.m and its so bright!!! how can you sleep with all that light...
These videos make me so happy. They are my therapy during these crazy times. I hope to be able to visit the chateau one day!!!
I needed that beautiful intro, ty for doing such a great job, love your vids!!! Safe travels!!
Thank you for another video . I love watching you work on the gardener's cottage. I'm always amazed at how strong you are.
I had to pause and laugh when he referred to 60 acres as a "vast estate." Where I live, that's a small cornfield.
If you live in a tiny apartment in NYC 60acres is vast for sure 😃
