Todays video sees some amazing progress in the gardeners cottage when I call in the talented Martyn Worth to sand blast the interiors. He works his magic on the beams, staircase, a stone wall and the AGA cooker cast iron parts.

My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

Yes, Martyn is a lovely, hard-working man. Does anyone know the breed of that gorgeous dog? Oooh, Michael, you must be so pleased with the progress and how amazing it already looks! I am claiming the Gardener's Cottage as my own in my dreams as it will be both homely and peaceful.
@@CherylSimser most likely a White Swiss, beautiful temperament, love their owners and generally ignore other humans and dogs. We have one crossed with a golden retriever.

Michael, props to you for giving a shout-out to Martyn's sandblasting business. He's quite easy-going, that chap. Before and after shots of those support beams is remarkable. This sand blasting is a game changer, the beams are going to be beautiful!!! Love your interest in restoring the cottage. I agree the wall under the stairs will look great exposed. Awesome sunset and grounds. I love seeing the Lebanon Cedars ... and lovely white kitty. Oh those apples and pears!!!

I recall being a cleaner in a beautiful old farmhouse, they had the beams sand blasted, as the cleaner I was finding the sand stuff for weeks after. Lol. It seemed to just turn up. X
The oak is such a beautiful colour, the exposed end wall too.

Absolutely fascinating watching the sand blasting Michael. Its a big and important step. The beams look beautiful. the chap was very keen doing his work. The roam around the garden at the end was lovely, love the fruit trees and pumpkin!

It's so exciting to see your dreams for the cottage come together. If I may suggest something, perhaps slow your movement when you are moving faster (especially when turning). It can make it so the camera doesn't focus, and also make viewers dizzy. : ) Also linger in some places a bit longer before moving on. A good rule of thumb is to focus on something for a slow count of 3-5 before moving.
