Prof Robert Kelly is back & this time his wife & children are meant to be in shot! BBC News

Prof Robert E Kelly has returned to BBC News to talk about his unexpected viral fame last week, when his children crashed his live TV interview to the amusement of millions of people who later watched the clip. Prof Kelly, an expert on South Korea, was joined in the follow-up video with his wife, Jung-a Kim and children Marion and James.
He confirmed to the BBC's James Menendez that he was, despite online speculation, wearing trousers during the interview.

    • I had to conduce a quick urgent client call once on the phone... from a closed bathroom with my 5 year old banging his toys at the other side of the door. I was praying inside that the noise was not noticeable. I think this family gave visibility to conciliation of work and family, something that sometimes is difficult but needs to be addressed nowadays. And now that many of us are having homeschooling and home office it is news again ✌

    • I'm telling you from experience even if the dad is abusive, the child will start to recoil only much later. My father was verbally extremely abusive to me and up to the time I was 8 years old, I still wanted to hang out with him and be with him. It's only after that at age 9 and older that I started to avoid him.

    • ... Anyway, I regularly watch TROS, a South Korean show, and they had this family as a guest. He disclosed that he was sure he'd lose his job over the incident, and also mentioned that they declined so many media invites simply because they didn't know how to handle it. He's just an academic who's not super camera-savvy. It's really pathetic how some people would make such grave accusations based on a split-second moment.

    • The girl knew what she was doing, she just wanted to be difficult, I know kids like that, they pretend they don't know any better, and they just do things like this to get attention. For sure they told her not to get in the room during the meeting. Gets on my nerves because I can see behind their little game, but still they are children, so have to be tolerated. (Not talking about the little one, the boy is totally innocent in all this, but the girl knows what's up and even does it in this interview/video)

So when I saw his, a white man, two very Asian looking kids come in my mind automatically used reason. Without even thinking I knew the mother had to be Asian I mean where's the discrepancy? 😂 I just cant fathom that any human with a normal iq couldn't put that togther. So when I saw an Asian woman walk in I automatically knew it was the mom. Ppl who thought otherwise have race issues that they need to compromise within themselves bc it was way too obvious. Those kids could pass as 100% Asian tf lol

  • I don't get why people keep on saying that he looks abusive. their daughter wouldn't have come in on the home office with so much confidence if he was as controlling as you claim to be and she obviously prefers to speak in korean so you could tell that korean is the first language at home. Even though she speaks great english, the wife wasn't comfortable speaking in english so she keeps on looking at her husband for reassurance. if you've equated the horrid look on her face on the first video for fear of taking a beating from her husband, then you've clearly haven't had an embarrassing child blunder experience in your life.

    @OhItsHee@OhItsHee7 жыл бұрын
    • Rosewoodspoiler PLL I think there are a great many assumptions being made and it's very unfair. And the daughter being aggressive?? I have a kid and I run a kids' non-profit. She is just being a kid - and clearly one who is quite used to being welcomed into her dad's home office. A point he made quite emphatically.

    • And, for the love of God, this is just a family dealing with normal family shit! Lighten up!! My husband, in the course of his job, is interviewed regularly, sometimes on the phone, for instance, when we are driving someplace - and then, YES, I had to quiet down our daughter when she was little so we did not interfere with the interview. How is this in ANY way controversial?? And, for the record, our daughter is now a well-adjusted, outgoing teen who still loves her parents and contributes to society as a responsible, respectful young adult. Don't people have more important things to worry about?

I’m a feminist and all I’ve wanted since I was young is to be a mother, feminism isn’t about working against that goal, it’s about understanding that it would be ok if that wasn’t my goal, it’s that simple.

    • @@jemima885ify things don't become not true when you say so. You know that It's career woman who devalue stay at home mom's, you don't even have to ask a career woman what her thoughts are on stay at home mom, they will just make sure you know them in the slightliest chance. I think it's paranoia, they think you're judging their option so they want to explain her choices for you just like you cared. It's like woman who don't have children after marriage or people who don't eat meat. They think people are judging them based on their choices when people don't even really care enough. so they just explain why they did it, devaluating those who chosen differently, (it's the easier way to prove why you did right when you show how wrong are people who did differently)

    @brisasalvas2267@brisasalvas22677 жыл бұрын
    • Brisa Salvas How might it be prejudiced? With so little information in that video, the fine lady could've had any possible role in good Professor Kelly's life! It didn't have to be a race issue.

    • She sure didn't act like one. The owner of the house would act like she had every right to be there. This lady went in head down, terrified, trying not to be seen while her husband didn't even have the courtesy to turn around and acknowledge her, let alone help. It's like one of those households where the help are supposed to stay inconspicuous. That's why people thought she was the maid/nanny. The racist part is why did so many people see an Asian woman in an obviously subservient relationship and still be okay with it? Which part of her body language said wife? Was it the fact that she's Asian? If a white woman acted that lowly, would you assume she was the wife?
