Rowan Atkinson on free speech

The Christian Institute spearheaded the Reform Section 5 campaign to get the word ‘insulting’ removed from Section 5 of the Public Order Act, as part of the Crime and Courts Bill.
After a lengthy campaign, which included support from celebrities including Rowan Atkinson and Stephen Fry, the then Home Secretary Theresa May eventually agreed. The change is now incorporated in Section 57 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013 which came into force on 1 February 2014.

    • Problem is that many politicians are also obstructed by the limitation of what the public allows them to say. Say one word that the public doesn't like and all the empty cans start to rattle and his or her effort to conduct a certain policy is over without any real debate.

What needs to be done is: all the politicians who follow such "guidelines" need to be arrested as suspects for commiting "treason" then you go all the way up from people who gives such "guidelines" to people who organised all this mess.

Clearly, few level-headed, intelligent, successful, capable and trustworthy individuals ever enter politics thus this may be the only method to actually create a viable long-term system of governance for this country!

And how would you feel if someone controlled your speech and movements every day? Let's say I was the one calling the shots - I could make blasphemy laws, make LGBTQ illegal, and any propagation of such subjects would result in an arrest and fine. Anybody mocking anything Christian related would leave them jobless and potentially jailed. Harsh? Unfair? That's how it feels to be censor by woke giants whom you are choosing to side with. You see you don't think about how it would make you feel if your beliefs were seen as taboo. Why? Coz you are on the politically correct side which grants you acceptance and freedom to speech. So I encourage you to take a step back and put yourself in other people's shoes, and realise what you are really supporting. When freedom of speech is gone tyranny flourishes.

I am therefore not surprised that he would despise Mr Bean as the moronic character he portrays from his position of privilege. Perhaps that why he is so good in making others laugh at him too. In the same measure, he is unable to see the perspective of victims of offensive speech. He advocates freedom of speech to give more of the offensiveness to get victims to become more tolerant of it! In another word, fight abuse by giving more abuse, a dangerous suggestion. He is talking from the white privilege of the majority not on the receiving end of offensive language. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The progressive vigilantes never let a minor thing like a change in a law stop them. In the US, we have the 1st Amendment protection of free speech. It doesn't matter. The supersteroidal-woke cancel culture abounds in government & corporate America. Exercise of free speech often amounts to a pyrrhic victory.

I have yet to find the Biblical texts supporting this attitude, probably as there are none. Love, yes, peace, yes, grace, yes, forgiveness, yes, reconciliation, yes, insulting people ? No.

Especially since Article 5 would only need said speech to have been found offensive had someone heard it meaning any insult in private without victims would still be punishable. And if you don't think minorities use insults in the privacy of their own home then you are suggesting they are not normal human beings. I'd like to meet the person that has lived to even 40 and not insulted someone at some point in their life either in privacy or public.

I know it wasn't just him that made me try and seek out NTNON at every chance I could, the same with VHS copies of Blackadder 1 and 2 shared between friends at school because parents didn't approve. So a couple of things here, The Christian Institute in the 1980's would have been out in force over this guy and all comedy of that ilk. A pair of plastic breasts in prime time TV, that's what created the 9pm watershed. This guy thought leaving the EU was a good idea, which, at the time meant only one UK political party, how's that working out? The law, this law that made him come and speak out. Is a law by the party he supported. So yeah, I do realize that he's smart. Smart enough to know that he's caught in the tailwind of a thing he didn't see coming amongst a thing that he didn't see coming and a perception that didn't see any of this coming. He speaks like that due to having a stutter growing up. You probably saw that coming. History is a complete bugger, if that's allowed to be said.
