Logitech StreamCam: A Modern Webcam Worth Buying?
I'VE MOVED FROM TWITCH TO KZhead LIVE ►► / harrisheller
Logitech finally release a new webcam after THREE YEARS aimed at streamers. It's a good camera, but I'm having a hard time understanding why they say it's for streamers, along with some serious concerns about it's marketing..

What are you thoughts? Still gonna buy it? Or is the marketing issue enough to turn you off?
I was looking forward to 90 field of view
For someone just starting out, it still might be worth it... But if you're serious about content you're probably better off saving for a better camera/lens... It seems like this was just rushed to market to stay relevant.
Yeah it's a little pricey might as well pay a bit more and grab a second hand dslr with the elgato camlink.
Thanks for the video. Do you know if the Streamcam is compatible with those tough ass gooseneck clamps? The c920 and BRIO are, but the Streamcam looks very bulky in comparison.
I think its disgusting how misleading that marketing is.
Logitech really regretting sticking the camera in Harris' backpack...
Right?😂
it's their own fault. why did they hear his complaints and then give him exactly what he was complaining about? senseless promotion and absolutely should bite them on the ass. logitech is a great company with their head in the clouds
Can tell he’s hard to buy off
f2bacon So true
Hahaha 😅
In a world where every single youtuber we see gets literaly paid to be a good and positive reviewer of any and every brands/products they get sponsored on. Your integrity and courage of "simply" giving an honest yet expert feedback is really appreciated. No amount of money should buy someone's integrity when he can reach hundreds of thousands of people. Probably not the best marketing Logitech hoped for but at least you're respectful enough to showcase their product in a transparent way, without bashing them, we salute their efforts to make something "new". But i'll still save to buy that DSLR webcam I've been wanting forever. :D
The C920 also has a “follow my face” setting. Just thought I’d mention that so no one thought it was new and spent $170 to meme
yeah but the c920 one is way too sensitive, and basically moves from breathing, and also has a horrible auto focus problem which is worstened by the follow feature. i turned both off on mine
Its just a little sad that the c920 has existed foreverrrr now (2012). No progress for webcams imo.
I should clarify that I’m not suggesting that people buy the c920. I’m just suggesting NOT buying the new cam for the “follow my face” feature alone.
@@TheMattyD fair lol. even with as harsh as this review was, and the fact it has kinda pointless features, i'm still considering it. i cant afford a full on dslr camera and the picture quality of this one is a lot better than the c920 from what i can tell. and i have my low depth of field zoomed in anyways. i dont need 90 degrees fov
@@zevo9314 The following is my OPINION ALONE: I would still consider something that will help until you can upgrade to something more professional. For $170 you gan get a better upgrade in a different field, while getting similar picture quality for less.
I truly love how brutally honest Harris was in this video. he could have BS'd us all into buying this product but he gave us his true feelings about it. Thank you dude!
i like this kinda people, i've never heard about this channel but i'm now considering subscribe just bc of his honesty
btw with this he risking get banned by logitek
Logitech : "Keep it secret. Keep it safe." Harris : Makes a highly critical video and post it immediately.
@@smartalic5 I already have a dslr, so I wasn't strictly following. The biggest impact here is Logitech trying to be fun with their tech, but turns out to be a little slimy.
Love how straight forward you are with your content, as well as how high quality everything is- from video quality to the editing. Keep em coming and I'll keep watching!
I’m surprised Elgato hasn’t come out with a cam. They seem to be the ones to make an actual stream cam
Bertums yo @elgato you hear this man!
Canon, Nikon and Sony could do it easily. Even sell one or more of their lenses on the way.
Shit bud you're not gonna believe this. Go check the Elgato website 😂
Honestly mate, this was really refreshing to see such an honest review on a product! Subbed
I agree
Ditto!
I am not a streamer but have a streamer like setup on a combined programming workstation / sim rig for remote work/meetings, with Nvidia Broadcast feeding an actually good image to OBS Studio. Also have Elgato and Hue lights with a Streamdeck XL for control and start-up macros. Oh and a UR22 and SE -X condenser. It works well for my meetings, but you wouldn't use that for streaming games - NB forces my 3070 to ~1700mhz, when rendering graphics (iRacing) I have it at 2ghz. So I've created Streamdeck macros to shut down NB/OBS to let my GPU power save, so as not to die prematurely. Before I started using NB I noticed the Streamcam having severe auto exposure issues when not using the crappy bloated Logitech software. The manual EV steps were like giant leaps too. (OBS Studio + Nvidia Broadcast + the Elgato bits is an amazing set-up for remote work; I love having control over scenes and audio muting with my Streamdeck. Well worth the investment of time and money.) Kudos again for a very honest review.
I lost all of my income when the pandemic hit (I'm a musician) and your channel has been INFINITELY helpful to me as I've scrambled to get a semi-competent stream going. You lay everything out very simply and whenever I have another question I always seem to end up back here. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
Dude I absolutely love your videos! They have helped me do so much, most importantly remind me day after day how I need to make content on other platforms. It’s stuck in my head thanks to you! Keep it up!
I love how honest you are, you don't pretend to love a product if you don't which is one of the reasons we all keep coming back to you. Keep up the great work man.
as an art streamer, i've actually found this camera great. It's hard to reliably emulate the colours you use when painting but this cam handles that aspect really well. I know a lot of art streamers like to have their facecams more portrait so you can see more of the artwork. I feel like this cam has much more of the creative community in mind and overall i've been thrilled with it! The portrait mode can get annoying when you're trying to adjust the camera in 3d space but that's all I can think of that's the downside.
oh im planning to get this for my art hangout streams. do you think its necessary to additionally buy a microphone too ? :)
Great honest review man!
Epic
Big Love to your content man! Always excited when you post something new about a gadget I might need asap too! 🤩🔥
Great review! You’re not afraid to tackle the image and microphone quality questions that anyone looking beyond the advertising hype will really appreciate.
Thank you for looking out for us, Harris. I always think how nervous id be to say anything bad about a company that wants to impress me. But that never sways you. You make sure you put these companies over the fire to produce great products. Respect.
You can stream to Instagram with OBS, it's not super hard to set up. The Logitech C922 is still crying in the corner btw, waiting to be noticed.
Whats OBS please? I just bought this camera but it doesn't fit into my Mac!
@@blakey2524 obs is Open Broadcaster Software it’s a free program you can download to stream
@@blakey2524 I know it's been a year but doesn't this have USB C port (same type of plug used to charge the MacBook) it should plug in if not you need a hub
Thanks for the honesty... I was a bit weirded out by Logitech's Amazon product page as well which is why I turned to KZhead. My only question is... what is the cam you use and recommend? You didn't say (or maybe I missed it). Thanks!
check links in description there is one called the harris heller kit
Appreciate this review. I was considering buy this, but going to do some research on other cams.
OMG! Love the new logo and intro animation! I learned a lot from your channel, Harris! More power!
I love my logitech streamcam. I teach kids through music and I'm not very techie. The microphones in the streamcam are amazing and I love not having to set up an extra mic. Also, if you record in Zoom, you can add a blur filter to get the effect of the bnackground blur. Like I said, I am not a techie, and for my needs, the logitech streamcam offers great video and audio, easily.
Oh i wondered if the mic is good :)
Thanks for being honest, appreciate it.
Great review.......I appreciate the honesty on the pros and cons. Good stuff!
I found your commentary insightful and helpful as I am in the market for a webcam. Thanks!
the music gave away what the review was Sad and ominous
I disagree
Nevermind I agree haha
thank you 4 a more straight forward review with a tad of questions on top of the cake , reminds me more of reviews as of early 2000
Brilliant review man! Every point whether good or bad backed up with so much - really appreciate your efforts in making this. I was fascinated by the Canon EOS R comparison!
I’ll stick with my c920 I think. Really appreciate you doing these genuine, down to earth, clear videos, thank you!
I appreciate the LOTR reference. Thank You
Thank you for this, so good I was looking at this and needed more info, I just need something basic to use to record my self at the moment I use my laptop camera. Great stuff
Thanks for all the advice you give cause it's really helpful and I can able to make sure what I need and what I don't
Gut
“Was this shot with the webcam?” “It’s a touched up image” Wow. Way to BS there, Logitech 🙄
perfect way to sue for "False advertising is the use of false, misleading, or unproven information to advertise products to consumers." dont get me wrong, i used logitech stuff since, basically ever, at least around 2000, but this BS has to stop...
It's like todays Looter Shooters "So can you tell us anything about the endgame?" EA/Ubisoft: "Yeah it's a lot!" "Um, anything specific? Just one thing?" EA/Ubisoft: "Yeah definitely haha. I can't put enough emphasis on how much there is to do"
Honest and quick review, thank you so much, I almost bought that camera and after watching this I changed my mind. Thank you again. !!
Love the honesty and how thorough you are with your research (i.e. the sketch advertising) - awesome review!
Keep having to reset the settings every time I open up the stream
Have you used the application "Logitech G Hub"? You're able to save the settings there, then close it out. When you open your stream software the settings should push over.
@@RobRoy316 is right - this is the best workaround. Sometimes I have to disable GHub Control and re-enable g-hub control but then it snaps back into place everytime.
I've tried saving the setting to turn off "Low Light Compensation" in SLOBS and it doesn't work. Tried the G Hub and it doesn't save it either 😭
50 seconds from upload oof Im on here too much
The variable zoom is helpful for videos recording in general, so I'm glad that feature was brought up in this video.
Great review, influenced my purchase as I was looking at the StreamCam prior to moving to DSLR.
I miss the old intro music :(
Me too
agreed. this one looks far too generic and stale. the old one had personality and was memorable to me.
i agree
Agree. I like the design but miss the blur gradient and the music.
Same. I wish they still used the old intro music while using the new intro vid
when it says 9 seconds
Great review! And yeah of course this webcam is not a conference cam but the built in microphone(s) are still important imo! It’s an expensive cam and there will be lots of (non-streaming) people buying it because it just looks nice and is a bit better than the alternatives.
Excellent video. What webcam would you recommend for business Teams/Zoom calls.
So basically ads are synonymous to lies. Ayyy that rhymes !
No it doesn't
They should really release a 1inch sensor or more.
OMG I just said full frame sensor and one I can put c mount lenses on. K mount for my Pentax lenses would be better because I have filters also.
@@chrisw5742 That would be to big of a form factor, sony has shown the rx0 could be a good option form factor wise. Actually even an aps-c with a samyang 12mm f2 or equivalent would be more than enough I think.
@@OfficialEthern1ty I know but I like to dream lol A cinema worthy webcam.
There's no way we're going to see a 1inch sensor in a webcam, unfortunately. Would be nice, that's for sure.
@@coldblackice there is a small market for 1inch sensor. A rx1 style webcam is totally feasible.
Great review. Refreshing to hear some honesty in a review!! Thanks.
best review and honest one about it, as for the request yes a wide image that can be set to diferent custom sizes will be awesome and also a connector that allow the camera to be screw on some lift brace like the microphone in such a way to be able to move it easy where the f i want. thank you for the review.
"can we talk" never a good sign, in no iteration under no circumstance 😂🤣😂🤣
Aka "Our lawyers don't want us to put this into writing so we're not sued for false advertising"
Hey look, a StreamCam. Or SCam for short.
Nice
Great review, and nice that you go into all details, even the marketing part.
3:15 The term that you're looking for is called focus breathing. It's when the image "zooms in/out" as the lens focuses. Happens because the glass elements have to move to focus the image, but at the same time, can also magnify.
I feel that you over associated "streaming" with only gamers, I think that is not realistic, there much more things about video game streamers. Most people will be overwhelmed about technical aspects of cameras in the beginning, so starting with a $160 cam that does simple things easy to understand IMHO is great quality, also, don't everybody can afford a camera a microphone, or they simply don't have the space to put both things on their desktop. Anyway, it's a very critical good review, points for that; I think it's important for me to get that this is a gamer channel, so, everything may be objectively accurate for people that want to use it as you do.
Disregarding the false marketing, the big problem with these cheap/casual/beginner webcams is that smartphones exist. If you have a tight budget, even an old flagship or a new midrange smartphone will have a better camera, connectivity, and utility. That's why he's so critical. It's not about whether this fits game streamers. It's the value proposition. Webcams cost almost as much as secondhand phones that do way more AND have a better camera. In fact, most people who want to get into streaming probably already have a smartphone. In that case, they just need to pay for the webcam app and a mount. That's so much cheaper than this, they can even afford to buy cheap lighting with the money they save. Check out his video comparing the image quality of popular Logitech webcams with old iPhones (6S, 7, and X), and you'll see how much better the iPhones are at the webcam's job. If you really want to pinch pennies and you're not a game streamer, you can even ditch the PC and just stream straight from the phone. It makes you wonder why webcams are both expensive and mediocre.
@@iatwiatw Is there a way to use a phone camera as a webcam? I see some guides, but they're pretty janky and convoluted.
@@coldblackice yes I know you can do it with stream labs with an iPhone because I've done it
Finally the end of the C920 🙌 Great content 👍
Henry does not really it’s ok, but like it’s pretty meh
Good video, thank you for the clarification. So my question is, should i buy it or maybe the c920hd?
Wow thank you so much for your review! Truly appreciate it!
I just did this same review over on my channel....glad I’m not losing my mind over here with them dropping this garbage camera with no advances in what streamers really want.....all a marketing gimmick.
Fantastic review. Your story telling and comparisons were excellent. This is why it is worth looking for a review before buying it. And this is how you win trust of viewers. Kudos
Was curious to what they changed from the BRIO, and from the looks of it there is no need to go from my BRIO to the new StreamCam. Thank you very much for the in-dept review.
Love your videos man, every time I watch one I feel like we can trust the information you give and that you aren't giving us fake info, Keep it up man!
It's so refreshing to see an honest review like this. Well done!
I totally agree! Thanks for the review.
Thanks @Alpha Gaming I about to checkout this webcam but decided a last second thoughts and watched your review thanks man for an honest review and I will not push through the purchase. Maybe wait a little more and for the meantime use my mobile phone as webcam on my yt streaming.
i bought a cheap $35 logitech 720p cam til i can get a DSLR. i love photography too so it just seems like a good fit. I hate when companies try to fool you with Fstop numbers and the like on tiny small sensors. Focal lengths can scale, F-stops do not. The blurred background on that Streamcam is exactly my point. Without fancy software, there is no way it could have blurred the background that much. Love your vids Alpha. You've taught me a lot about OBS and mics and overlays and stuff. Keep it up man.
I was actually looking at this cam today on logitechs website, and then i see this video posted and im super glad i watched it. Thanks Harris.
This is a very honest review and that is what we actually like, being real with the reviews and this is great! We got the information that we need with the pros and cons and with a little a confusion about what they did there. Haha! Thank you for this video! :)
Great review! Will be using ZOOM or Streamyard technology for video conferencing soon. Any recommendation on a good webcam with quality image and good microphone input/output? I'm not a pro. Just starting out. Thanks!
just discovered your channel, subscribed immediately. dude you’re straight to the point, brutally honest and i trust your sources and knowledge.
You just gained a sub I been using the cam like two weeks now so far I’m happy as I have nothing to compare it to
Amazing review of the new webcam, Harris!!! I also have the c920 and a cheap one from amazon that I'm using, which are decent, but I'm always looking for possible upgrades in the future. You look really tired though... I hope you are getting enough sleep!!!
this was such a great review! I really hope Logitech changes that ad, or just completely recalls this camera.
Appreciate the honest review, saved me from dropping money on what I'd expect would be an upgrade to the c920. Shame really, need more dynamic color range in a webcam.
Great vid/review. It helped me walk away from this camera. I need a low/mid/pro budget web cam. What are your recommendations ?
Thanks for the amazing helpful video. PS, this is my first time discovering you and i am in love with your content! Great Work!
You just saved me $150 thanks. Looking more for another option for webcam... Great video. Only thing you didn't include was audio from the camera, but you are so right about audio and I can see why you did not. I was on the fence and you firmly have me with money back in my pocket thanks... Great review
Incredibly helpful video although I watched it too late! The last point you made about the depth of field is exactly the marketing ploy that I fell for. I decided I wanted a new webcam when I did a call with someone who had a very shallow DOF which was really impressive. As you point out with the photograph of the girl with the blurry background in their marketing material, I did indeed expect to be able to achieve that with this camera. I know in some ways the clarity of the images on the other side of the room was impressive for a webcam - but it isn't what I wanted. As yu say, they didn't make any written claims about DOF so I suppose their marketing isn't technically false advertising, but it's getting pretty close! Also, what does it say about what they think of their own product that they don't even use it much in their advertising! Clearly they know people will be more inclined to buy it if it has features they aren't actually offering! Not a great vote of confidence by them for their own product! Thanks for a great video - wish I had watched it before I bought the camera!
Love how sincere you were with your analysis great information thanks so much
Really glad I watched this video as I was meant to be buying one today. So for around this price range, what do you recommend? It is a shame I can't use my canon g7x mk2 as that is just collect dust.
I bought this camera on a whim when I was looking for a new headset and figured it was time to replace my Microsoft almost 15-year-old WebCam. I'm really not impressed with the stream cam for number of reasons. I'm operating in older computer. So I ordered a PCI card for the back of it and figured that would get rid of the clicking sound I'm getting on the audio but it didn't make a difference. And honestly I can't see much of a difference between my old camera and the new one so it's going back to the store. Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it and I enjoyed your opinions of some of the other WebCams.
quick correction on your statement about portrait mode, yes you can stream to IG from webcam via softwares like Yellow Duck, I did that a few times in the past for my performance on IG live. Totally agree about the lens zoom, probably will cost a lot more.
You IMMEDIATELY earned a sub in the first minute. This is not brutal honesty, this is Just honesty. This is what an Authentic person with values placed above sponsorship money looks like. This is actually the kind of feedback that benefits the brand in the long term because they can make better products and have happier customers. Great work, going to Mainline the rest of your channel.
0:33 Harris has been a huge inspiration to me and I have been tearing through his videos, but a LOTR reference? Oh my.
was honestly thinking about popping on one of these and i'm definitely holding off...Hell, might as well save up for their Rally Camera setup lol!
Super helpful review. Thank you!
honestly there was one thing that i think is useful for my area of streaming thats the image stabilisation because with sim racers like myself or john theodore we can sometimes have the issue of our desks shaking because of our racing wheels
I was literally just looking at this and came to your video. Not a gamer. Just thinking about upgrading from the 930e I've been using. And I DEFINITELY thought the promo material made that image quality look amazing for a webcam.... then I read the blogs...and watched the reviews. Yeah... not so enthusiastic about anymore. Great review!
Does the steamcam zoom? Also the 5ft cable length might be an issue. Wondering if there is a solution to this? great video thanks for posting!
Subbed. Great to see a honest review. Thank you.
I like having a mic on a camera. It is easy to setup, and already placed well when you put it over the monitor. The sounds can be decent. I used microphones on Logitech BRIO, and I like it. Yes, I do have a better mic, but it is often pain to setup. What I would likem, is higher quality sensor (not just color accuracy, but also lower noise) and mechanical aperture, so I can change a depth of field easily. Better glass lens, to really have sharp image.
The new logo is so awesome! I love your new intro compared to the last one.
Thank you for this review, I bought one a week ago and am just waiting for delivery... so, of course, your review posted after I ordered one. I'm still hoping it works ok. I have to use a cam for online education and I thought this would be a good choice. We'll still see. I do appreciate your reviews... extremely well done! Thank you! Did they really fake that nice bokeh image? That's false representation, isn't it? Wow...
Hi! How have you liked it so far ? Any updates ?!
I have to stream the college classes I teach; that is one reason why a "streamer" might want the framing feature that follows their face. Also, I'm glad it doesn't give that beautiful blurred background because I will want remote students to see the powerpoint slides and notes on the board behind me. I know this isn't the streaming content you are referring to, but it's a type if streaming that really requires a camera like this.
Now that we're on the subject of camera quality. Your video is superb. Well edited, great info and extremely well presented
ur comments on the Cons & real footage of this cam make me subscribe to ur channel. I respect youtubers who really voice out the truth of the products they review. Well Done!
Damn i was looking into purchasing this, looks like a down/side grade from the 920/brio. Thanks!
Hey I just stumbled upon your channel and I really appreciate all the work you put in! What do you think is the best overall cam between the C920, C922 and this Streamcam?
Also something interesting about what you said about Logicapture feeding into OBS is that it also can get delay. And I'm not talking about like a second of delay you can adjust your audio to match, but variable delay. I tried it and ended up running like 2 seconds behind at one point in stream sooo...yea.
Hey Harris, what kind of lighting setup do you use. It looks pretty good. Do you have some tips on right lighting and background for videoconferencing? Thanks.
Honestly, I think this would make a great overhead camera looking down at a desk! I'm aiming to capture most of my studio video directly on my workstation so that I wouldn't have to mess around with lots of different "record" buttons, batteries, USB cables, and memory cards!
I love how blunt you are with your reviews, no bullshit straight facts.
