From the gravity point of view, as a curious self-taught architect, how do you find the center/axis of that log?
If you want to find the center of the wood, first cut the wood with a ruler and then you can find the center of the wood.
@@mrwoodturning i get it about the ruler, but there's mass, too! Would gravity matter on the lathe? I bet so!
@@rezosimon5907 Yes, it is 100% and mass is very important to gravity.
@@mrwoodturning Still, how do you find the center/axis of gravity? A solution of hanging your log like a plummet by the thread would mean lots of holes and screws. There should be an easier solution to this problem.
Find what you think is roughly the centre, then start off slow, I turn the speed up until the lathe starts to wobble then back it off a bit, as you take material off you can speed it up slowly as it balances out.
...also sorry for your friend's loss...the urn is beautiful and a wonderful gift...👍 Did the dimples at the top signify something or just decorative additions? Matt
Thanks, just decorative
Cost effective too. I remember the funeral home wanted to charge us $600 for a plastic one
I'm really curious, has any of your pieces caught fire from friction? Or been burned by it? I can imagine the heat builds up pretty quickly at those speeds.
Only real heat would be from sanding, you would be made to move your hand before anything got too hot
Well done Matt. Very elegant piece within a Very elegant idea. If you don't mind me asking.... What is the name of the thread cutting system. What essence is the wood. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards. Darragh. Woodturner in France
Thanks. Its made by Hope woodturning
