Woodturning - What's Inside A Golf Ball? (Let's seeeeee)

Woodturning golf balls into a stunning hybrid vase with the help of some epoxy resin. Used an Australian mallee burl wood for the base and I tinted the deep pour resin with some golden green mica powder and turned it on my woodturning lathe. Once it was finished I applied clear coating resin for super high gloss finished.

  • Really turned out nice (😏😂). Love the way the balls became that large polka dot pattern. Were you confident this was going to look so good? That was a nice bit of wood you committed to it.

  • Nice. Now, how long did it take you to get that golf ball into the mug?

  • Please tell me, are conventional turning tools not suitable for resin processing?

  • You would have had a rude awakening if you had tried this with golf balls from when I was a kid. There was no such thing as solid core golf balls. All golf balls back then had one of three centers: either a small marble sized soft rubber ball, or a small liquid filled center ball, or else a solid steel ball, the size of a small marble, encased in some hard rubber. Surrounding the centers, all balls were then wound with continuous rubber bands, and then the cover put on the outside. Ask me how I know about all that. 😂
