I cut this piece of apple crotch wood around 2 years ago. I left it to dry as I do with most of my wood but unfortunately some massive cracks opened up both at the top and bottom. As I haven't turned much apple wood I wanted to start turning it and see if I could remove the cracks and make the replacement parts. I used some spalted beech to drill out the cracks and make the piece stand out.
The piece has been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with sanding sealer and wood wax.

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.
I really like how the plug inserts are a different color. The shape is very beautiful
Harry sei magico. Mi chiedo come ti possa essere venuta in mente una tale idea. Pura magia.
Beautiful sir🖐🖐🖐🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
"I used some spalted beech to drill out the cracks." Not quite, you used a coring tool fitted to a drill press. I would indeed be impressed if spalted beech could drill out cracks! 😂🤣🤪😇👍👍
It's well 'ard😮😂

Хорошая идея . С меня лайк и подписка.
Regarding the piece itself, it looks excellent! Impressive use of filler wood to create a contrasting effect. Overall it came out very nice! 😊👍👍
Another successful project 😊
Stunning!
very good
that is very nice and sure worth the effort
Zajímavý nápad a pěkné zpracování 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful, love the contrast of the woods😊
Fantastic stuff. I was thinking that it would be awesome to have different colour woods ib there but the colours came out brilliantly! 🎉
Such a creative mind beautiful
У мастера отличная фантазия.
Good job.
That is very interesting. I thought you were making a birdfeeder until you started adding glue and plugs. It is a beautiful vase / umbrella / cane stand? Either way nicely done!
Beautiful
Beautiful. 🧡 KZhead has lost it, I got an advert every 85 seconds! Utterly insane.
Thank you Deena! I'm glad you liked it, sorry about the adverts, it can be very difficult to control how many you're shown. I hope it is better when watching more of my videos 😁👍
Very nice!
Magnifique 😍
The incerted pieces look like molasses cookies. It makes me want cookies and coffee.
Nice one Harry. Just wondering if you ever use the top edge of the Spindle roughing gouge. It gives a much cleaner sheer cut and smoother finish?
What brand of miter gauge do you use on your bandsaw? Nice vase.
Сама идея интересна.
What is the name of saw? And the tool end for hollowing out the piece? And name of sealer, finishes? Thanks for sharing!
How did the plugs become so much darker?
Do you call this thing Spot?
Dot 2 dot ?
Nicely done harry what woods did you use to make the vase
What are you treating the ends of your workpieces with and why? It looks like some sort of oil, but I don't know why you'd use oil on just the ends.
It's probably wax

Hi Harry, love your work. I was wondering if you ever made a bird feeder or a birdhouse. I think they would be so cool and sell well. Keep up the great work. Ps new subscriber
Quality craftsmanship, but the plugs don’t work in my opinion. They just look weird and out of place.
