  • Hey everyone! Firstly, thanks so much for the positive response to this video, I'm genuinely shocked at how well this video did. Secondly, for those who are trying to remind me about Ninja Theory's bad PR and how it damaged the reputation for them, yes I remember. I will be covering that in the next video where I focus on Ninja Theory's part of everything and the finished product, where as this video was meant to focus specifically on Capcom and why they pushed for a reboot in the first place. Though if you think it's going to be a 30 minute video of my dumping on NT, I'm sorry but you will likely be a bit disappointed.

    • DMC has never had strong narratives but 3 was the exception; don't discredit that one just because it doesn't have perceived literary importance or that it's not superficially complex

      @MrMoises621@MrMoises6216 жыл бұрын
    • Moises Cabasquini I wasn't trying to discredit it. I was saying that it was the peak of the story quality, and in fact every other game in the series has a much worse written story. I have a whole section in my DMC3 video dedicated to the quality of the story, so I didn't want to spend a bunch of time qualifying that statement.

      @Foxcade@Foxcade6 жыл бұрын
    • @Foxcade ohhhhh; the way your statement in the video was framed, it almost sounded like you were implying that out of all the mediocre DMC narratives, DMC3 just happened to be the most bearable. My bad, I misconstrued what you said

    • The thing is gamers get used to such iconic looks of characters in video-games, just think what would happen if they changed Matser Chief's green armor to a less bulky look, more slim-lined like Samus' power armor and made it yellow or something? With the Zelda series they made drastic changes to Link, took away his green tunic, and hat i wasnt too keen on the blue tunic which just looks like more of a big baggy shirt to me. But what i respect about Zelda: Breath of the Wild and what those devs at Ninty did was allowed us to unlock the classic green tunic in the game, IF we so preferred that, also you could actually get all the other variations of the classic green tunic from the different past Zelda games through the amibos. This is a e.g. of devs respecting that not all your gamerbase is going to accept when you make drastic changes to the look of a character.

    • Looking back, it's kind-of clear from the things that were successful at the time that Capcom's idea of a 'Western' game basically was more along the lines of dark, serious, and gritty. A.K.A. stuff like the FPS's that were making big money from that fad taking off but would be horrible for any action fantasy game because it's incredibly hard to balance those aspects in that type of setting without making things feel very forced and generic.... NOT impossible, just hard. Yup, that's right. They literally tried to give Dante the type of dumb FPS reboot that people actively joked about back then, lol. I'm surprised they didn't try to make him bald as well or give him some form of sock hat to hide his hair. But at the same time, it could have been done if Ninja Theory's writing was up to the task.

  • Originally I thought this game was going to be about some government program trying to make a half demon, with the scene of Dante hanged up in the room being a psychological torture method to turn him into the the Demon Hunter Dante. Had that been the story and the character was forced to take on the name Dante as a secret project I think it would have been accepted better and explains why he doesn't have white hair at the start, also it would have been a more serious story instead of the really cringy writing we got.

Meanwhile, V being an actual emo kid perfectly matched his role as Vergil's weakened, discarded humanity, and the fact that he somehow manages to still be likeable (despite being a scrawny nerd who quotes 18th-century poetry to empower his edgy Pokemon) is a goddamn miracle.

      @Tenchigumi@Tenchigumi Жыл бұрын
    • Well, there is a difference between being emo and edgy. V is only emo because of his appearance; his personality was really humble, he was fearful of dying, had a great dynamic friendship with Griffon, loved poetry and classical music, etc. Reboot Dante... he's just an annoying asshole, smoked a lot, and... well that pretty much sums up his character, who was supposed to be a reboot of a beloved character

The fact that DMC is over without even a deserved end story is what pissed me off back at 2010, I mean, there is unfinished business with Vergil, Nero, Sparda, Dante... the whole story, instead, we got the "no one asked" reboot -_- just because the sales weren't satisfying -_- Like I said, I'm not against a DmC Devil May Cry 2, WHILE there is a continue to the original series, Devil May Cry 5,6,7... Because their promotion basically attacked the original games. And then when the game wasn't up to standard, they sobbed the fans were mean. Because yeah, the game is not bad, but it's not even close to what you would expect from a Devil May Cry game. And the fact Bayonetta was floating around as the second coming of DMC... yup. Unlike Bayonetta where the action is too fast af. I have played DMC 5, DmC and DMC 4 SE. DMC 5 is a cool polished game. It sure had diversity. I loved the graphics. The boss fights. The destructible environments. The devil breakers. The moderate replay value. Photo mode. But it was too short. DmC has an average length, it is one of the best hack and slash game that i have ever played. The boss battles in this game are badass. The heavy metal sound track was too good, it left me with an adrenaline pump. The theme of the story was actually good like Angry joe said, but the execution wasn't near perfect . And i didn't liked or hated the reboot Dante. The level design in DmC was awesome and refreshing. It didn't back track to the same fucking location 10 times like. In DMC 5. • That's the thing that I take from this and I wish I knew long ago. The thing that I need to understand is one, why did the developer lash out at the fans? Fans are stupid, don't get me wrong, but if the developer in charge wanted to hold a higher ground, he should've went the humility way, which is the time tested best strategy to both salvage your name, reputation, in case your product stinks, or to hold a better position and be seen in a better light by the people, in case your detractors are full of shit. This is the thing that Galvanized the DMC fanbase against NT and DmC DMC, if it's another thing to add to Capcom's list of Fuck ups, fair enough, but I wonder if it was Capcom's idea, I somehow think it really was just the creative director's arrogance showing, maybe even in a moment of weakness. My reasoning, Capcom are stupid, they wanted this game this way after all, but even Capcom isn't THAT stupid, because It's Just Bad Marketing and BAD PR and the history of this game's creation shows that they cared about that, enough to make changes to curb some of the more outlandish decisions with the game. I don't believe they'd be that stupid especially after responding by back pedaling quite a bit from the initial reaction, it just wouldn't make any sense of them to turn to such a 180 as a production company that sells games.

Was very hostile to anyone that didn't absolutely live the game. The next mistake is, the Dante in this game was essentially a rebooted Dante with Nero's personality. Let's give the Devil his dues, though... Gameplay was amazing and the DLC was worth every penny. Both Dante and Vergil had amazing character development over their respective story arcs. Dante started as apathetic and self destructive, but became more rational and humane. Vergil started as anxious and dare I say, whiny, but became ruthless and cunning in the DLC. I still love the original DMC way more than this game and I feel DMC5 blows this one tf out of the water, but this game was no slouch by any means. Very enjoyable if you play with an open mind.

It's fine to say "it's not as good as DMC 1-4", but don't go calling the game bad just because it changed stuff. The same thing, though to a lesser extent, happened with Assassin's Creed when Origins came out. There were a lot of people bitching about the game, calling it bad, just because it changed the gameplay. It was closer to a Witcher 3 style game with stealth tacked on. Thing is, it was actually a really good game if you took it as its own thing, and didn't try to hate it simply because it wasn't AC2. Same thing happened with other AC games like Black Flag, where it might not have been an amazing AC game, but it was a great pirate game with the AC engine. Or similarly, AC Syndicate where people bitched about it being too modern and having a grappling hook that took away the need to freerun. Syndicate was great, it just changed things up and people threw a big ol massive hissy fit about it. Aaand, same goes for DmC here. Was it a great DMC game? No. Was it a decent and fun GAME? Yeah. I guarantee if they called this game "Vigil SwordDancer" or something, many more people would have liked it.

Tameem Antoniades, is still directing games, and Ninja Theory is still developing games. My point is, if these threats were credible they would have went to the police. The people sending the "threats" would of been found, charged, and, arrested, end of story. But, that didn't happen! All these, supposed, death threats that Ninja Theory were receiving was used as a publicity tool, to spur the gaming press to shit on the fans, and build a narrative that the DMC community is "toxic". And it seems like we will never recover from this..., unless there is a real DMC5. Round Trip is infinite allowing you to lock down anyone that can be stopped by it. Aquila's delay combos drag everyone in, the ax can launch multiple enemies effortlessly, and the Devil Trigger renders all non boss enemies literal punching bags. Vergil, while lacking the space control Dante has, is an absolute juggernaut with his EZ mode Spiral Swords that are not used in his other moves, his teleport. and ability to basically cancel any attack with a teleport. You can basically loop Rapid Slash as much as you see fit. Their attacks lack impact completely. They did have a good mix of enemies. Some being standard grunts, air types providing aerial support, and the witch who can both attack, teleport, and transfer her barrier to other enemies. They also had the heavy brute types and the elite swordsman enemies. What I hated was the complete removal of taunts and next to no actual battlecries in the game. Taunts and battlecries and a lot of personality to these characters. I own both DmC DE and DMC4 SE. While I love Vergil, Trish and Lady are fun, Dante is still the hardest character to master and Nero gets boring quick, DMC4's campaign is straight ass. No, Bloody Palace is not a worthy sub. To me, DMC4's campaign is so fucking atrocious, I have more hours in DmC4 DE than DMC4 SE. DMC4 needs a proper sequel. They have great characters. Nero needs to have combos tied to his Devil Bringer and an actual second weapon.

    • @Dante: The Demi-God Making Nero look like an actual punk makes sense, considering his character, and makes him stand out more from the rest of the cast, especially Dante, the one character he was criticised for looking too alike. Donte, on the other hand, stripped away a lot of iconic features of the OG Dante for an overall more boring design. He just looks like your generic young adult. Nothing about his design tells you what he's like and he doesn't have any standout features like the white hair or the crinsom-red trenchcoat, OR the spiky hair. Plus, Nero also has photorealism as an advantage, since you can now easily recognise him from his more subtle facial features. It's not a double-standard, Nero just wears it much better.

  • you probably weren't around the controversy because you seem to have skimmed through the actual problem. i was and i know what happened in the fandom. the gist of it is, DmC is one of the first and most prominent cases of the developers dissing the fans then begging them to buy their game. every game dev making a shit product, especially those politically driven, do this nowadays (see battlefield 5 for a recent one) but DmC might be what started it all. it went kinda like this: fans were pretty disappointed with dmc4. the story was lackluster, full of plot holes and half the game repeated itself. it was obvious it was an unfinished product ala silent hill 4. sales were good because dmc3 was a hit, but people were left unsatisfied and wanted to see a proper conclusion to the story. instead, capcom decided to reboot the whole thing, only, they didn't call it a reboot AT FIRST. they heavily promoted that this game was going to be in the same spirit and style to the previous, which it obviously wasn't. there's also the problem of the new dante. besides the obvious complaints (shitty haircut, terrible dialogue, edgy emo personality etc.) the biggest problem was that he was made too generic. ironically, it was done to appeal to a market that was already over-saturated with generic heroes and wanted something different (which the original dante was). the jokey, cheesy dmc series was likable and easy to get into, while this was serious and grimdark. it made the western developers seem like a bunch of angry teenagers rebelling against their high-strung parents. fans of course responded very negatively to the trailer. dante's hair was one of the complaints, but the above was the main concern. there was nothing to this series that made it dmc other than the name and everyone agreed it should've been a new ip entirely. what the devs did though, was respond with extreme hostility and strawman all arguments to "it's about the white hair!" ("fans hate women/blacks/gays etc". you know the pattern by now) while calling fans childish, ignorant and other names they could think of. the lead dev was the most hostile one, posting comment after comment on social media spitting in the fans faces and telling them to fuck off for not liking his perfect interpretation of the series. that was when the fans noticed something even more aggravating: the new dante looked almost exactly like the lead dev. not only that, the personality was almost the same too. years of character design lead to a self-insert gary stu. fans took this opportunity to roast him with every meme imaginable. the devs finally caved in and changed dante's haircut and body design slightly (you should look back on the first trailer and then the newer one, you'll see what i mean). they too probably realized it was stupid, but they kept their stubborn and nasty attitudes throughout. it didn't help that when capcom stepped in, they too added a layer of spit to the fans faces, telling them to shut it and buy their game because they're stupid and don't know what's good for them. THAT was the point when fans made death threats, and TBH it was maybe 3 people at most. considering the vitriol they sparked, it wasn't that much. i was expecting way worse given how they hated on the fans DAILY for OVER A YEAR. also, on the side, there was the whole "fans are only pissed cuz dante doesn't have white hair" thing which capcom sold to all game journalists talking about the game and was pushed SO hard, they themselves ended up believing their own bullshit. the fandom was already split, some liking this, some wanting to give it a chance, and some buying this narrative and thinking the old fans were just superficial children who needed to get over dante's black hair (which, again, wasn't the focal point of any discussion except capcom's). fans were eating each other every day, the game f.a.q. forums and official capcom dmc forums were lit with fans trolling each other, it was a mess. what was worse was that when the newest trailer came out, it featured the pier scene where the new dante gets a white mop on his head that looked like old dante's hair and he says to the camera "not in a million years". because more fuel to the fire was EXACTLY what this series needed. fans got even angrier and organized a boycott. after even more months of quarreling with fans, capcom got scared and decided to back out. they forced ninja theory to give dante white hair AT SOME POINT, thinking that after spitting on the fans for over 1 year, this was enough to appease them. they actually believed fans cared about the white hair and white hair only. old fans still boycotted this game. what was interesting though, is that they wanted to show they still loved the series, so they decided to buy the remastered dmc3 game and marvel vs capcom3, since it featured the OG dante. it was a less angry way to make a point, and it sorta worked, with dmc3 remastered selling more than DmC. capcom got even more scared by the boycott and announced OG dante hair dlc, with multiple options for white hair for new dante. they really, really believed the bullshit they made up. i don't even know what was going on in their minds and what ninja theory told them was going on in the west, but they did NOTHING to address the real issues and just stuck their fingers in their ears and screamed. so, when the game finally came out, it was....decent. 7.5/10, about. the graphics and story level were obviously better than the old dmc, but the gameplay was below the hardcore button masher that was the OG series. it was missing a lot of key functions, like a lock-on button, no switching of styles mid-combat, far too easy to ace and far too simplistic enemy types. this was because the game dev wasn't very good at doing hack-n-slash. their previous games were NEVER this complex and were more story and platforming driven. more of a prince of persia than dmc. fans probably would've accepted it IF they didn't spit on them for all this time and continuously told them that this was going to be better than anything japan could ever make. the story also had big problems, being a politically driven 14-year-olds perspective on society (big bad corporations and the media is brainwashing you, they're all demons, their wives are prostitutes, fox news is evil, anonymous resistance coups are cool, revolutions fix everything etc.). it was NOT a mature, IMPROVED dmc. it was just a narrative the dev wanted to push out and found a game to do it with. this again divided fans, depending on how much you roll your eyes at superficial social commentary. of course, almost ALL game journalists, INCLUDING jim sterling, made the game out to be perfect, talked about how brilliant it was and (at least jim admitted) decided to praise it just to piss off fans even more for daring to complain "about the white hair". like i said, the game was decent. what the team were good at - visuals and platforming- were good, what they tried to imitate from dmc - godawful. certainly not worthy of all the praise it got. fans started suspecting that journalists were paid off by capcom to give it good reviews to make it sell more (which is now the main controversy with EVERY GAME, but back then gamegate didn't even happen yet). of course, SOME were found to have been paid promotion, and some, like jim, just wanted to dogpile in on shitfest that was the fandom. i'm sure some journalists did indeed like the game for what it was, but the fans didn't trust them one bit at this point. the only journalist that told the truth of the situation was surprisingly a non-gaming related column on a business magazine. he was the only one to write about what the fans problems were in a realistic way and express his mixed feelings on what the game represented as a whole. fans latched onto him like a messiah and got him HUNDREDS of comments. i think fans were at this point, like an abused housewife, crying in a friends lap and confessing her sorrows, happy that at east ONE person understands her. it was sad, to say the least. fans continued to eat each other, some liking the game, some not. most fans though, didn't play the game (i myself watched let's plays of it, and was the first one i didn't get). 1 or 2 people did and listed all the nitpicks they had with it (see the above), haters straw-manning the game (oh the irony) to call it shit based on only these few gameplay related problems (honestly, the story and characters were far bigger issues). fans flooded review sites, giving it a 1 before release, with supporters giving it a 10 to balance it out. capcom already announced a sequel immediately after launch, adding EVEN MORE fuel to this continental-level forest fire. more trolling, more hate, more attacks on each other. complete shitfest. the dmc fandom was NEVER this divided and hateful. EVER. and guess what. all the problems listed, together with supporters not buying it and the western market not being interested in generic looking games like this, lead to very poor sales, about a 3rd below the worst of the series. despite the journalists tongue so far up capcom's ass they came out the other end, fans didn't buy this game. why? BECAUSE CAPCOM TOLD THEM TO FUCK OFF. i didn't see that coming, yup. capcom panicked again and made ninja theory make post-release changes to the game, this time looking at real complaints: lock-on button, difficulty level, enemy weak points etc. and released a "definitive" version of the game very quickly after launch, but by then what was done was done. fans refused to buy it on principle and the game stayed a bomb. capcom and ninja theory NEVER (at least for the 1 year i still kept up with the situation) admitted their failures, never mind apologize for hating on the fans for what were 2 years now. ninja theory suffered all the blame. they lost everything and capcom didn't learn a thing.

    • You, my friend, are spot on right. I remember everything exactly like how you said. Reading comments on twitter about the the head guy from Ninja Theory talking shit to the fans. How the fans were getting divided between pure angry and one who thought it was going to be the best game ever. I knew from a fact, that I wasn't going to buy this game new. I waited months until going to gamestop to buy the game used. Played it, abhored it, and returned it within 7 days for a refund. For the game itself, isn't bad. If they would have called it something else, it would have been just an average title. But to stick the DMC theme into it, and then shitting on the fans with that "Not in a million years" phrase, tells me the Devs and Capcom didn't care about the people at all. But what do you expect? Crapcom never cared about the fans. They used to, but no longer. It's about money now and you see that with every big publishers like Konami and (omg) EA.

    • DMC2 showed that they still didn't understand what they'd stumbled upon with DMC1. It was the easiest mistake to make, because DMC2 is pretty faithful to what "action game" meant back then, but a very shallow imitation of what DMC1 did, to the completely new genre it accidentally created. Remember that a lot of other studios were tripping over themselves to replicate it, and they got similar results. Chaos Legion? Nanobreaker? DmC was made when the genre was fully consolidated. They knew the tone the series had, they knew the mechanics. They knew what the fans wanted, and they decided to go against it. A combo rating system that just went up by mashing, color coded enemies and weapons, reducing Devil Trigger to a time-slowdown. And then steering into the actually bad parts of 3 and 4, like the terrible plataforming. Not content with this, they insulted the fans, in social media, interviews and even IN the game itself. They changed the playful, tongue in cheek tone to a vulgar and overly dramatic mess, while calling it Shakespearian. I don't know what Fox is talking about when he cites the "It fixed the problems with the old series" bit. It fixed nothing, it made the problems worse, and introduced a host of new problems. TL;DR: DMC2 was a failure to recapture the lightning at a time when the genre was so new, no one knew what to do with it. DmC was a deliberate insult to fans, a gamble to twist everything that made the games good in order to "leave a mark" for Ninja Theory, down to designing Donte after fucking Tameem. They got a job they didn't remotely deserve, and they went on an ego trip with it. It's trash, burn it, and shame on the apologists. Edited to add: And don't fucking believe the "death threats" claims, it's the easiest way to redirect the heat. If they ever happen, they're non-substantial, and most of the time, they're not even real. Look at that Star Wars game with the lootboxes. It was all lies, deflection.

You could get a collectible that would burn your health progressively, locking you in an endless loop of dying, loading your last save and dying again in seconds. The bosses were shit, the story was broken, not just badly written, but fundamentally badly made. DmC is at least coherent and, well, playable.

  • I think people are trying too hard to defend this game for some reason, I agree that at it's very core it's a perfectly fine game and if it was called anything else no one would have cared and it would have faded into obscurity just like enslaved or heavenly sword. The problem is that it DOES have the name Devil May Cry and the main character is Dante, seeing as they don't do the characters or world justice it is perfectly valid to not like this game for not delivering on what fans of the series want. Think of this as the same way as say, Dragon Ball Evolution movie and Dragon Ball it self. The movie looks good for the most part and if it was anything else it would be an okay movie, but just like DmC it was badly written and ruins what it was based on resulting in fans rightfully hating the film. The argument of "it's a fun game to play so I like it" is a perfectly valid one, what isn't is saying the game has good writing or does any of the characters justice at all which is just as big of a part the game as the game play itself as is any *Character* action game. It's made even worse when NT themselves insult the fans and the previous games openly on social media when the game was being released and then blame the fans for it's poor sales and not their own failures for not being professional. This game can easily be considered bad and on release it was even worse, so when trying to say this game was good and that people are too harsh on it you should really think back to the 'fuck you!' scene and reconsider if they really are or not.

My issue with how the fans reacted is that they just destroyed the developer and the series for anyone who ever dreamed of making a new DmC. Investors are not going to come close to DMC if everytime they try new things, they just get trash-talked into space. Reacting to announces is important, as it gives the developer and the publisher feedback to adjust things before release. I'd just like fandoms to stop loosing their shit everytime someone tries to be creative. Plus, let's get real, the world-building in DMC always was kind of shitty, as it was for most Japanese highly gameplay-focused games. Hating the visual changes is one thing (Heck, I hated every frames Dante or Vergil were on screen until the last quarter of the game) but this game just oozes of all the effort and love put into it, especially the DLCs. I feel people are being unfair with it because it has the Devil May Cry name on it, in a time where good or even decent AAA Beat'em all games are few and far between.Plus, I hate when fans suddenly say writing is awful in a game as if it was any better before. Granted, DmC's writing looks like it was made to piss people off.

    • True the back lashed did end any chance other developers doing anything with DMC, but that's not really a bad thing seeing as one of the top companies that would have done anything with it again would have been Ninja Theory if their game was seen even as decent, and no one would have wanted that. I don't believe it was unfair of a judgement ether, if you take on the title of a well loved franchise of any kinda, not just DMC, you better be able to deliver quality which they clearly did not. It also doesn't help that NT were acting just as childish during the development of DmC as the fans were, which there is no excuse for as they are a professional company that needs to act in a professional manor. I wouldn't say DmC had 'love' put into it, as it was released as a mess and the writing for it felt like a really edgy teens view on the world that reaches to a cartoonish degree despite it trying to have a 'serious story' and the developers showed time and time again their dislike of the old Dante and the older games which points more towards spiteful then 'love'. It did have some interesting ideas such as the world shifting around you as you play which is honestly the only genuine complement I can give the game as even the game play itself is just meh compared to other CA games around the same time or even before it. The only company that could ever possibly touch DMC is Platinum which everyone would love because they would get Dante and every other character in DMC plus they have pretty much mastered Character Action in almost every aspect. Though I don't even see them doing anything with the game as Capcom is probably isn't interested in doing this sort of thing again, which is sort of a good thing as it seems like we might be getting DMC5 eventually... possibly.

    • I didn't play the game at launch, so I don't know about the launch quality, and the whole controversy was definitely a PR mess from Ninja Theory's part. What hurts me, is that this game shown just how much people care and love Hack'n'slash titles, that there IS a market for those despite popular belief, and good ol' internet just shat on it. The "jokes" and references to DMC are distasteful to say the least, and I honestly think they should not have made it into the final game, but DmC shows a glimpse of the potential this series have in terms of style, story writing (cause they should clearly fire the guy who thought the dialogues were good) and "adaptation" of an universe into our world. Whether the fans wanted this or not is another question entirely. I'd like people to see this game for what it tried to do and what it succeded, what it had to do better. Not for a quick jab at NT, CA and the 2000's horrible White-washing habits. The fact that Sony is the only AAA company that goes full on on an old beat'em up franchise and have success with it pains me, and, imo, comes to this game and the time it released in, as what happened to DmC in the late 2000's happened to LOT of niche games. And yeah, I know Bayonetta exists, but I'm not buying nintendo systems for this franchise only, as I'm not a fan of Nintendo games.I defend the game because the most vocal and harsh criticism it recieves are not about gameplay. And as much as we want to think otherwise, DMC's plot is a clusterfuck almost as scary as Kingdom Heart's storyline. The gameplay is far from perfect, and too simple and easy to say it shortly. Sure it's true but what's done is done and I believe acceptance is the best thing any OG fan could do for themselves at this point. TBH i would cuss out demons too especially if i was still a teen that had to see them all the time. The dialogue is understandably distasteful, i just learned to accept it. And i think NT learned from their mistakes and would give a DmC sequel much more care than from 2013.

This includes NT's own title, Heavenly Sword. Dante's "trademark look" is white hair and a red coat, so the new iteration of Dante should have kept that. Even if I ignore what his past character design was, the new Dante design just felt kind of uninspired: if you put him in a line up with a bunch of NPCs, I wouldn't be able to tell that he's the main character.

    • Devil May Cry since 3 has offered fighting game levels of depth and complexity (if not more) and DmC threw all of that out of the window. No way in hell is the gameplay improved even a little bit. NT is known for their action games? Who the fuck are they compared to Capcom? Have they made RE, God Hand, Onimusha, DMC, Dragon's Dogma, and many more? No, NT made that Heavenly Sword and Enslaved shit that possibly could compete with trash like Dante's Inferno sure, but not with the king of action games. Lmao, give me a break. And I don't like to shit on NT because firstly, it's been a long time, and secondly, we are getting real DMC again now, and thirdly, they can make interesting stuff like Hellblade, and admittedly DmC is the best action game they've ever made, but we need to keep it real: they couldn't and never will be able to make a real DMC and they can never compete with Capcom. Also, there was no backlash against DMC3. It's the most beloved game in the series next to 1 and 4 and came out after 2 disappointed most fans. And although 4 can be divisive due to its unfinished nature, the gameplay is still held in high regard.

    • DMC1-4 has been going on for years. DmC is their first attempt at a action game that could be indepth. You expect them to be good at it? -The improvement is in terms of Dante they manage to make the game so that you have access to what would be "all styles" at once. -Dodging is there instead of Jump to avoid making it more difficult in terms of dodging considering that your whole way up in DMC1-4 is completely invincible. -Guns aren't just combo filler. They have reason to exist outside avoiding combo penalty with JC>shot once>repeat move. -None of the moves on the move list for Dante or Virgil is useless and can be used in many ways. Something CAPCOM frequently overlooks (yes I'm looking at you Back Special for RG). -Platforming is improved. New Dante has better horizontal range and the Glide make it (sometimes) easier. -Only fixed camera angle is in a boss fight resembling a helicopter camera and a security camera. -Parrying added -Style Bonus noted on the side for what gives what That's the improvements. Just because the game is easier and more shallow doesn't mean there are no improvements. There are many small things CAPCOM could take from DmC and put it into the new game to improve it. Everything you said just breathes irrational fanboy. Just because it's not the same doesn't mean it's not good. DmC and DMC could have co-existed. People like you just are so spiteful and hateful that you helped CAPCOM split their fanbase. BTW it is a REAL DMC game. It's not the Original game. You can say it's not real but it exists. And people like it. Source: store.steampowered.com/app/220440/ DmC Steam Store page. Read the positive reviews. Tons of people like it for logical reasons. Red and Blue enemies would ruin the flow of combat? "Stop acting like you don't just hate the hair!" It got so bad to where Tameem was attacking people personally on Twitter for finding bugs in the demo and making suggestions to tweak gameplay. I'm not sure if you remember the lead up the release of the reboot but the overwhelming majority of criticism was based on the re-design of Dante (Yes, mainly about his hair). So don't act like Ninja Theory were the ones who started getting petty. They were basiclly harassed for 3 years straight and finally slipped up on twitter. In addition to that, the final game wasn't "clunky" at all, it had nearly an identical control scheme as DMC 1 and the mix-up of Red and Blue enemies made the game harder, not easier, as hitting the wrong enemy doesn't just stun Dante and leave you open for an attack but also kills your Style Rank immediately. Two things that are crucial, to advanced DMC players

      @Sora744@Sora7446 жыл бұрын
    • Sora744 I'm not sure if you recall but the demo was absolutely broken, which was troublesome because it was released like a month before the game launched, indicating that the release version of the game was likely to have the same problems (and did). Also Red and Blue enemies made what was an easy game, not more difficult but instead more tedious. The control scheme was almost identical to Heavenly Sword, with TWO dodge buttons. Some combat moves were flat out broken, and you could dish out relatively huge damage in a short amount of time (i.e demon dodge + axe smash= Huge damage, unlike previous games which made huge damage moves unsafe to perform all the time). These are just some of the complaints I've seen the community give and for it to be met with mocking of potential consumers is ultimately why the game is a commercial failure and why they released the Definitive Edition, addressing these complaints

  • It was an interesting video, but I believe you missed out on a large part as to *why* the fanbase became increasingly hostile toward Ninja Theory. Not that I can blame you, as all the evidence is on Tameem's deleted twitter. While the death threats were out of line, yes, Tameem Antoniades spent nearly the entire development time using his twitter account to insult the fanbase, tell people that they basically suck, that the old fans are worthless and this isn't their game, reminding people that he's having dreams about being the worst game dev on the planet, and blaming every fan for making their project fail. It got so bad, Tameem had to disable his twitter, because every day he's say something and make subtle remarks about how it was basically the fans fault that his game was going to fail before it even got off the ground. So really, I don't think it's entirely fair to push a lot of the blame on Capcom for their decisions, then Tameem was effectively a PR nightmare. Tameem has a history of managing to lie to Sony, convincing the that his crap games were triple A quality, when they never were, and normally fail both comercially, and critically. Never mind the fact that DmC: Devil may Cry was the first game they actually wrote in house, without outsourcing all their stuff. Yes, Capcom failed horribly in vetting Ninja Theory, and the whole thing stinks of this being a favor owed behind the scenes, but it lies mostly on Tameem for being such a dick to the fanbase.

The Cyberpunk Matrix with demons was a cool concept for sure. • I honestly wish they would have kept the original concept of Dante in DMCDMC. What I mean is, in the original teaser trailer, new Dante looked like he was even younger (pre-teen), had a raspy voice, and smoked cigarettes. He actually put his cigarette out on a demon's head in the trailer. It seemed like the game was going to have a much "darker" take on the son of Sparda. We see him chained to a wall in a prison with a camera watching him, this angry kid with hot demon blood coursing through his veins. I was actually looking forward to seeing this new angle because, although he was younger, he came off as a much more "rated M" type character. I felt it was going to be a more hard-to-stomach style in regard to violence and brutality. The trailer actually made me want the reboot because I wanted to see where it would go. But sadly, the version we got turned out to be very different. He had a normal voice, was at least as old as DMC3 Dante, and came off like he was trying too hard to be edgy in order to keep up with his red-coated superior version. Not to mention, being chained up never happened and he didn't smoke, also he wasn't wearing the bad ass goth necklaces we saw in the teaser either. DMCDMC wasn't any more "mature" than any of the originals. Where Devil May Cry always felt somewhat like an anime, DMCDMC feels more like an American-ized version of an anime lol.

  • Addicted to this video. Strong points about actual reasons behind what happened behind DmC. If it's worth anything, look at the latest game- it's marked "5". It's like they didn't even consider DmC to be part of the same continuity. Love it. 7:01, no, wait. Save for how they look, the fact they both wield huge swords and have demonic powers, Dante and Nero are NOTHING alike. Dante fights for himself- he is OK with being alone, he matured a long time ago and (yes, even during the chronological order dmc3 appears in) and does not seek anybody for himself or cares to affiliate himself with anything. Nero is an insecure, whiny, teenage boy with a crush on a damsel- he hates the world that he understands because the people who are part of it, don't get it, but he loves it too because part of that world is a girl he cares about. They. Are. Completely. Different. I think what you mean is that Nero is under developed. Which he is- because they tried something different from Dante. Harken back to Devil May Cry; Dante is introduced - he is this insanely over the top cool guy who spouts smooth/cheesy lines while apparently dispassionately slaughtering demons. He appears alone, aloof and unaffected. The story arc progresses and we see a TINY bit into his past - he had a mother- she died, he dealt with it and moved on. He is strong because HAS to be. Nero is introduced - we know nothing of his family- only that he is treated like some kind of pariah, except by a childhood friend he obviously cares about. He will do anything to protect her. And that's all we had for Nero. Devil May Cry games have never been about the story-but even when you look at these two paragraphs - you can see huge differences. I think people were primed to see more of Nero and Vergil, waiting for Capcom to draw this missing link between Dante, his friends, Nero, and his only apparent family, Vergil. Instead we got a reboot where Dante is an idiot, Vergil is a terrorist, and there's a witch Girl we don't care about. DmC Devil may Cry is not a bad game, but given that little bit of mystical story development / progression that we had with previous games; I think fans were insulted that it was all scrapped aside- for something we didn't want to begin with. Come back to now- and see why DMC5 is such a huge hit. Look at who is back in the spotlight; Nero, Dante, Vergil, Lady, Trish, and even whatsherface (Nero's Damsel)... Boom, Capcom went for the nostalgia and it worked.
