They mention that you should watch the cutscenes every so often in this playthrough. And that's because you really should. You won't be disappointed. I've watched them for - over the span of - 10 years now, and it's gotten to a point where I can memorize not just the lines, but the emphasis the voice actors put on them. It's so good.
lady vs dante is just perfection... even by todays standards the animations are flawless. damn i would love a remaster of this game RE2 style. imagine if capcom did DMC3 with DMC5s engine
DMC3 legitimately has one of the best stories and cutscenes in games. Which isn't to say they're super complex and meaningful, but the story is so perfectly executed that it's unbelievable.

@@freddyvoorhees4293 it really is a lot of fun, i can't stop replaying the final vergil fight to beat it the most stylish way a possible
if you use something like Trickster style or a more defensive playstyle then you can avoid his attacks and punish pretty consistently. But, if you try to royal guard on the ground for all of his attacks like the speedrunner then it is hard to do flawlessly. The aggressive parrying style works better for speedruns because of the shotgun canceling and damage burst from the perfect releases
It actually shows you where you supposed to go in little panoramic view cutscenes. When I first played DMC 3 I've never felt stuck.

The elevator secret mission is actually quite easy, just use trickster style and when enemies spawn, double jump and run up the elevator chains, the enemies will simply disappear for some reason
Really impressive gameplay by waifu man, when I go back and play dmc3 for platnium, I'm definitely gonna use that shotgun cancel strat with Royal guard. Was fun watching!

The original dmc 3 is tough as nails, but in a fair way. As in, you hate it so fucking much while you lose battle after battle after battle, but once you master it you fall in love with it.

17:54 Nightmare Beta is criminally underated. It boost the damage of your left hand attacks buy 15% and unlike artimis actually works in bolth multi enemy and single enemy environments not to mention it is instantly charged when you are in devil trigger. Artimis on the other hand requires gunslinger in order to focus on a single enemy takes a decade to charge and becomes weaker when you attack with anything else wile you are charging it. Honestly if artimis had more moves than (1) shoot single shot (2) shoot multiple shots at different enemies (3) shoot multiple shots at a single enemy (4) conger a ball of energy [it's lamer than it sounds] (5) make it rain lazers [also lamer than it sounds] yes you can make the argument that nightmare is bad because it uses devil trigger in order to fire the damb thing but it at least does damage when you use it also you can completely removed the cost be being in devil trigger already. Artimis does nothing passive, doesn't do enuff damage to justify useing it, and requires you to have gunslinger in order to use it for anything that you want to deal damage to (and even then it is almost useless because of all the other guns out damage it.) My point is nightmare beta is a good weapon with a combat style that requires you charge it to deal damage. Artimis is a bad weapon because it's most powerful attacks are out damaged buy any other gun, and it's clunky. Compared to nightmare beta , nightmare beta is better and is underated and it isn't a bad weapon.

Nightmare is a bad weapon. If you look at it in a vacuum by itself sure it's fine. Much like the Artemis. It's serviceable but the key difference why Nightmare was worse was because spending DT was not worth the damage. The problem for it has to do with the fact the other guns get enhanced considerably in DT. So not only would it be better DPS but also healing you on top of it. DMC3 guns are primarily for crowd control and to help juggling. Artemis has an awkward skill curve but it's functions are still serviceable and has a niche to fulfill. While Nightmare is outclassed in basically everyway. The only actual useful DPS increase it does is enhancing Ifrits Attacks. Then functionally there's nothing distinct enough to use it over the other guns

Reason why I never finished this game is not because of the boss fights, it was because of not knowing what to do next or where to go. I didn't hate the game for that. The game treated me like I'm smart and badass who knows what he's doing but sadly I'm not, so I abandoned the game. The way you proceed to this game is you have to watch the cutscenes and listen to the dialogue because it will tell you your objective there. But sometimes I will come back after one week of not playing it and I have no idea who am I playing again.
Now that the HD collection is available on most platforms, you should give another go at it.
Yep, got stuck on mission 10 back then when it got released. This dmc has too many puzzles.
I just finished the game a couple of days ago, never played it before and many times through I thought I was going absolutely nowhere and suddenly the stage was over. I'm sure there's a bunch of secrets and stuff that I missed

Reminder as always (as somewhat explained in 5:56), Normal and Easy difficulties in DMC3 North America and Europe, were Hard and Normal difficulties in the original DMC3 in Japan, respectively. Special Edition fixed this and used the easier Japanese versions of difficulties, and added the Hard mode only found on the non-Japan releases as Very Hard difficulty.

Fun fact: Play DMC 3 SE on Yellow and Hard difficultly and you can experience the original DMC 3's Normal mode.

I’m almost done my first playthrough of DMC3 on default difficulty when I get to Vergil 3 and he kicks my ass harder and far more annoyingly than any boss prior. I’m stopping my session for tonight so I don’t go to sleep stressed out and decide to see how professionals handle that fight. It was not reassuring and yet somehow satisfying to see this runner die horribly on his first attempt of Vergil 3.

I mean let's be honest with Cerberus as well, he's also the hardest guardian. Especially in Turbo mode he has some attacks that are just straight up fast.
Took me some time to realize that I had beaten this game in its original difficulty form as a kid. I thought I was just bad and needed to get better, but it feels good to know I basically beat the game on hard difficulty
Why does everyone find Agni and Rudra so much harder once they combine? I always kill one first because they're easy to beat fused for me, especially with Vergil. Dante too, but more so with Vergil
I think it only matters during a speedrun since doing that causes a cutscene to play, wasting like 20 seconds.
Also when you play this game for the first time and you have not gone through it with Dante and beat the game and gotten Vergil they can be very difficult

I have played this for like 10 years now maybe even more,and im suprised to learn so much stuff out of this,didnt ever use royal guard as it seemed too slow and clunky for me i knew it had potential to dishout tons of dmg but didnt know it cancels animations and you can spam guns and attacks with it,pretty dope thankful for this DMC 3 is really the best in my opinion Also can somebody tell me what he wanted to do at 30:50 was he tryna jump the whole gap with some trick like rebelion stinger charge or what ?
It’s called a zip basically if you stand in a certain spot and release an arrow perfectly it yeets you across the gap

Damn bruh, this Vergil 2 is so damn annoying! I came from DMC5 and Royalguard in 3 isn't as clear as it is in the new game, so I just backflipped his attacks but sometimes HE JUST DOESN'T STOP COMBOEING, IT'S TERRIFYING. Still an amazing fight, tho. The whole concept of him stealing a weapon that should be yours is so cool! (Loved getting revenge with the Beowulf on Vergil 3)

I'm 29 y/o and never gave DMC a chance until a couple of weeks ago with DMC 3 original version (where "easy" is actually "normal" difficulty), and man, I HATED it for the first 4 days at least. I was about to quit the game entirely like 10 times, but about halfway through (in about mission 13) I started to get the taste for it and really enjoy it
Nevan isn't terrible just using it is awkward. You're kind of meant to switch back and forth from it the most. It's not like the other Devil Arms that can solo a Boss. Nevan is really used in AOE Bursts or projectile lockdown. Do a normal string, switch, do a riff (AOE or Bats), then switch back. The Nevan Combo 3 Burst is the one I use a lot when dealing with mobs. Does a shit ton of damage. Hard on bosses but great on mobs.
One correction, gold orbs were introduced in DMC 2, not 3. I believe that is why DMC 3 only had yellow orbs originally. Pretty sure there's a DT explosion in DMC 2, but it might be limited to demon god mode.
you seem to be right gold orbs did come from 2 but there is no Devil Trigger Explosion that is only in 3. 2 has Majin Devil Trigger

i had dmc 3 special edititon on pc with some weird controller that had buttons numbered, used it for RE4 and a few other games too. The only thing i remember of dmc 3 is after beating your brother you get swallowed by a serpent or something and i could never figure out where to go after that. I was really young at the time and had no idea what the hell to do.
You were stuck in Leviathan, Mission 8. That's really early in the game. 25:00 To be fair, there's a lot of places in DMC3 like that, where you have to find out where to go without a clue given, as if you were in a damn JRPG lol. Once you memorize all the correct ways through the levels it's no big deal though.

So is vanilla DMC 3 on PS 2 supposed to be difficult? Any DMC 3 or only like first print ones? Cuz I've downloaded a rom of DMC 3 and had the easiest encounter with Cerberus ever. Also it didn't had Turbo mode and without turbo mode any DMC is easy
The easy mode in the Japanese version was removed in the western release. So the easy mode in the western version was actually normal difficulty and it goes up from there.
i was really surprised with all the "dmc3 is the hardest" stuff. For me 1 was way harder and dmc3 was really easy tbh. You can do soo much with the weapons and take damage like and champ, not to say infinite heal stars. In 1, you could use 1, i still remember the grind against nightmare in dmd...

Is the special edition any easier than the regular edition? I don't want to spend money on a hard game twice if it's not worth the effort. I've beaten it several times on the regular edition with Super Dante and Quicksilver. That's the ONLY way I've figured out how to play that game without dying in five seconds. What are the differences?
The only difference with the original was that the normal difficulty was actually hard, the other difficulties like Dante Must Die are the same. Special edition let's you play as Vergil aswell.
