Line Boring & Bore Welding Caterpillar 730 Dump Truck A-frame Eye | Part 1 | Sir Meccanica WS2

2021 ж. 20 Қаң.
592 463 Рет қаралды

This video is Part 1 of line boring and bore welding a Caterpillar 730 Articulated Dump Truck A-frame that has a badly worn eye causing the bushing to be loose. We are using our Sir Meccanica WS2 portable in-line boring and bore welding machine. First we need to remove a seized bolt on the A-frame footing before removing 3 broken bolts that hold the retaining plate to the eye. We then use the Sir Meccanica centering device to set the bearing mounts for positioning the line boring machine. The eye position has been so badly worn and bolt holes damaged that we need to line bore out a huge amount of damaged material and bore out to the depth of the bolt holes. We position and tack weld a run off ring to the eye, hand weld to fill the bolt holes before line boring again to give a clean surface ready for the bore welding in Part 2!

    • I agree! I had a customer who constantly pulled this crap until he brought me a part that was no longer available. I called around to find out what the new one would have cost if one was available. Of course he lost it. "I can buy a new one for less than that!" Of course I invited him to do so, which then he admitted there aren't any available. "So you got a deal, you brought me a pile of crap and I return to you a fully functional part ready to be used. Next time bring it to me for routine service and will cost you but a fraction! Of course he never did!

    • Some of those are design flaws. They don't use big enough parts for the use it gets. They use a pin with a grease hole in the center that breaks or the self aligning bushing is too hard and it breaks from impact.

  • This video brought back many memories. Over 30 years ago I worked at a Cat dealership in eastern North Carolina. Because I was a certified welder I got to do lots of lift arm, boom, and bucket line boring. I'd set up the alignment bar first, then bore out the imperfections, and then using 1/8" 7018 welding rod build up the inner surface for final reboring to spec. I really loved doing that work. Great video and thanks for sharing! And for those of you who don't know, a fly cutter isn't for taking out pesky insects! :)

As long as the pilot hole is pretty well dead centre you can open up the hole till its a bit below the thread size and it will just screw out . You didnt have much time though .
