  • Why are people still bitching about "not enough Godzilla"? This was a throwback to the 1954 original Gojira. Godzilla is the star of both films, but he's not a main character. He is a force of nature. Both films explore the actions of the human characters in the face of the destruction caused by their own nuclear weapons.

    @isaacgleeth3609@isaacgleeth36099 жыл бұрын
    • Because nobody cares about human characters and nuclear weapons. We want to see Godzilla fight something and fight it hard.

    • They were useless the whole movie. Main characters did nothing, it's almost as if they put an hour and a half of a movie just to explain unimportant shit to make it a movie and cash in. The only thing I would tell anyone to watch is the last 20 minutes where they fight. Most of the fight sucks but Godzilla breath is so awesome.

I thought it was good, it was like Godzilla King Of The Monsters *The first one*, he barely showed up, but when he did, he wrecked. I liked the Muto monsters too, they were adorable, yet horrifying xD The one was much better than the 1998 peice of Garbage.

    • Apparent the only other person here, who's seen Gojirra.... Good job. Also not one of the assholes moronically praising the 98 atrocity... Iguana zilla... No... That was such a bad film in surprised japan and America didn't go to war again.... Yea japan has been an American territory... I mean occidental country since the end of the 2 world war.... But, idk they could figure it out. Seriously, the Japanese hated the 98 godzilla so much that they put it in a godzilla movie so that the real Godzilla could kick its ass. 98' Godzilla good? Delusional people... This film was enjoyable it was a throwback to the original Gojirra which had very little Godzilla...people forget... Even in the Japanese sequels which have more Godzilla , they still focus more on a tacked on human story , which are usually much worse than the humans in this one.... Atleast final wars had Mayor Hagar..... Who I assume pissed on the ashes of.... "Zilla" as the Japanese call that abomination from 98'

      @Kamina1558@Kamina15589 жыл бұрын
    • Why is being faithful to the shitty Japanese films a good thing? '98 Godzilla was at least fun and had way more of the title monster. The proportions of this old-school fat godzilla look retarded. Besides it was more about boring us to death following a dull, idiotic and generally impotent protagonist.

    • the first one...both the japanese and the Perry Mason version are not really like this one... sure structure and pacing is similar, we see the destruction and we see the just glimpses of the monster. but they are ideologically different: Gojira, the first one, is more or less a "horror" movie. with the monster flatting Tokyo and destroy it harder than Zod and Superman in the last Man of Steel (with the difference that Man of Steel did that because Snyder is worst than Michael Bay... and wanted to prove it) in this he is a good guy...he defend the world from other monsters...

I understand if people are calling this movie bad, but when people are calling this Godzilla the worst movie ever, you know it's bullshit. Yes, I wish Cranston had more screen time, yes, more Godzilla would've been cool, but if it had more of the Big G, the final fight wouldn't be as awesome! For those of you out there who like this movie, there's no shame in doing so. It's a solid 8/10 for me.

I understand why people were disappointed by this film, but for me, the minimal amount of Godzilla and fight sequences prevents the film from becoming boring and repetitive. It's all about the build-up and it totally paid off once we got to the final act. The last battle would have lost its impact if we had a tonne of battle sequences before it.

Have more than just Godzilla 1998 in your list of Godzilla movies you've seen before (THAT movie shouldn't even be considered a Godzilla movie, anyway) 3. Have an actual appreciation for build-up. 4. Know that in most Godzilla movies, Godzilla himself doesn't have much screentime. 5. Be able to not mind slightly bland characters/acting every now and then. 6. Barely know/not know anything about Breaking Bad 7. Not be a Bryan Cranston fanatic 8. Not be an explosion/action whore and/or a Michael Bay fan. 9. Not be a stuck up prick who can never be pleased ever. 10. Never go by the trailers for any movie ever. If you meet most or all of these criteria, you will be sure to love the ever loving shit outta this movie. :) For those who meet very little or NONE of these criteria, you will most likely hate this movie with a passion and moan, groan, complain and bitch about it anywhere on the internet you can, any chance you get. @drummer4916@drummer49169 жыл бұрын
    • it is not "everything all the time" society. The titular character is at least supposed to be explained properly. If its a predator, why didn't it 'eat' anything? Why was it teased throughout the movie? Patience is okay if you have at least 5 minutes of pure action, not just two vomits and a tail whip!

I'm saying that one of the things that made this movie actually decent was the build-up and sparing use of Godzilla shots. Godzilla isn't really the main character, just like Jaws wasn't the main character. It's more of a disaster/thriller movie. If it was just fighting monsters, it would be stupid.

So as funny as this video is, you just made a bunch of 12 year old fans rate Godzilla down because they havent seen it and you gave the impression it was bad because of its 'lack' of Godzilla. And if anyone thinks lack of Godzilla is a reason to hate it, just think of Christmas, it comes once a year, and everyone loves it. Of course they wish it came around more, but if that happened it would lose excitement.

  • To the people still complaining about Godzilla not being in the movie much: Welcome to Godzilla movies. Watch any other Godzilla movie and most of the film is indeed spent focusing on the human cast with very little screen time for the kaiju battles. Seriously, at least this was semi-plausible and the human cast wasn't dealing with aliens or subterranean people. To the people still whining about Bryan Cranston getting killed off early in the movie: If you came to see a Godzilla movie only because the guy from Breaking Bad was in it, then this movie was NEVER for you.

    • Seraphim Valkyrin Please. If Godzilla had been 90 minutes of non-stop kaiju fights then people would have called it overstuffed CGI garbage. You build intrigue and suspense and you make people wait for the big reveal and the payoff. That's the simple formula that the Godzilla movies are legendary for. So it's more like saying because James Bond has ALWAYS had gadgets, girls, and gimmick villains that he should have those things now. It's a staple of the series. And a staple of the Godzilla series has always been a weak yet passable human element that serves as the lead-in and build-up for the kaiju main event. If you don't like that, then fine. But the movie wasn't made to appeal to casuals. It was made to appeal to the series' fanbase. Cranston was just thrown in to add mainstream appeal. That's why you have the mainstream fans complaining that he wasn't in it long enough.

      @JustinAKABiff@JustinAKABiff8 жыл бұрын
    • That was just adding to the buildup. We still get the final showdown in the climax of the film. Again, more than you get in MANY Godzilla movies. Seriously, has anyone here actually WATCHED a Godzilla movie that didn't have Matthew Broderick in it?

The only people I have seen bashing it are people who know nothing about Godzilla and wanted "Walter White vs Godzilla" or fans of the lousy 98 film who wanted it to be non stop action.

    • I consider myself I Godzilla fan since I've seen about 75% of them and I have to say, this movie was okay/good, but didn't meet my expectations. I'm okay with Godzilla taking a while to appear but I'm not ok with him barely being in the movie at all. I think the ones from the early 2000s had the best mix of action, humans doing stuff, and build up (eg Godzilla vs Megaguirus off the top of my head)

  • People are bitching way too much about this movie. The director was going for a less-is-more approach with gojira, and it payed off. It felt like I was watching a good disaster movie with giant monsters, and godzilla's first roar and atomic breath scenes were freaking epic. Pacific Rim had plenty of monster action and that movie looked like a video game

    • It's the same approach that was used with Jaws, which is hailed for barely showing the shark, but sadly people today need explosions every ten seconds, because of fucking micheal bay

    • I wouldn't have minded that they barely had any Godzilla, but they killed off the more interesting (and better acting) lead, put way too much focus on the human, and they did way too much teasing and off screen fighting with Godzilla and the other monsters. They couldn't have at least one on screen monster fight before the finale? They could have shown the monster getting away since it could fly.

    • not gonna lie, this movie was flawed. I agree with everyine that Bryan Cranston's character should've lived and ATJ's character is annoyingly unkillable. Hell his wife was a more interesting person to watch, but what we got of Godzilla was epic, and the special effects were top notch and most of the actors did a good job. I'm sure the makers of the movie have listened to the criticism and the sequel will only be that much better because of it

  • You know what I absolutely love about this movie? The fact that the entire thing is shot from human point of view. Neither any of The Rings, nor The grudge, or any other horror movie didn't scare me as much as the jump to San Francisco (Acrophobia combined with fear of giant monsters, good stuff). With guy in a rubber suit you can't achieve that much and I liked the new design. I mean it's not really new it's remake of the original one with some new features to it. Great movie

  • This is by far my favourite film of 2014 so far. Always loved how people whined about a lack of Godzilla, I guess they've never seen Jaws, Alien or other movies that cared more about making its main creature almost mythological and teasing it throughout the movie before paying off huge at the end and if they did, they'd probably whine like babies about those movies too.

    • You sir are in the right. Many films old and new never feature the main hero/villian till the end. Godzilla made the scenes with the king more action packed than most of the films out so far.

      @TonyDSaint@TonyDSaint9 жыл бұрын
    • I love the excuses this movie gets. When the majority of the screentime is made up by boring human characters then the movie is going to struggle when you have 11 minutes of monster in it. Jaws and Alien had atmosphere through the movie that carried it. This movie just felt like a jerk saying "here's Godzilla...nope you get stupid characters again." Too many times they should have just shown what was going on and stupidly cut away to something else. If you want to tease Godzilla then at least do it properly.

      @Flaris@Flaris9 жыл бұрын
    • I'm pretty sure the problem with that analogy, is that Jaws and Alien were more like horror movies, while Godzilla wasn't. Also mysteriousness only helps when we don't know anything about the creature. And we already know everything about Godzilla. Thus making the mysteriousness kinda useless.

  • Just some background info for people that admittedly have a right to not like the film. The rights to Godzilla is owned by Toho, and when the original 1998 godzilla came out, Japan was so offended that in 2004 when they made Godzilla: The final Wars, they re-named the creature 'Zilla and then had it get defeated by Godzilla in less than a minute so they could disassociate any connection to the 1998 film. That's why in the 2014 film the creatures that Godzilla fought were MUTO's instead of the actual Japanese creatures that Toho owns the rights too. However, thanks to Edwards' respect to the Japanese versions of Godzilla, Toho gave the rights to Legendary to use their other actual Japanese creatures such as Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah for the future Godzilla films, which I believe is a major sign of respect about the 2014 film.

  • From all the complaints about Godzilla not being on screen very much I take it none of them have seen the original Godzilla from 1954. If they had then they would know that he doesn't show up until 45 minutes into a 96 minute film. That's the younger generation of movie goers for you, impatient. They build up Godzilla for a reason and when you finally see him its just badass. No one likes a build up nowadays.

    @CLM1987@CLM19879 жыл бұрын
    • Well to be honest I liked this movie, but really when I take a closer look at it, it really does have some very major flaws. Sure the first godzilla also had very little of him, but he was the main spotlight, not some other random two monsters. And also in just a 96 minute film, he had more footage than in a 123 minute film. That's ridiculous. So eventually what you end up with is a "godzilla" movie that seriously does not have any godzilla in it. And don't talk about build-up or what not because since he's no longer the main spotlight anymore. Also, bryan cranston dies. That was one of the biggest let downs for me especially the main characters were also extremely boring, especially compared to the cast of the 1954 film. In the 1954 film they actually DID SHIT and had their own personalities. This one really didn't. You begin to see why so many hated this film, and to be honest, it's not a great tribute to the old 1954 film of you think about it.
