Whilst strolling around the park something caught this heron's eye, near the litter bin. It went to take a closer look and, quick as a flash, it caught a rat. Once it got a secure grip of the rat it flew up to the trees to share it with the rest of the family.
i cannot properly express the satisfaction watching this
So many rats and so few beautiful Herons.
I have just seen something similar in Rochdale town centre. Heron in the river but looking at the vegetation on the bank. I then spotted a rat nearby and realised it was ratting! Sure enough, 5 minutes later it caught a young rat. Very opportunistic bird and it won't be going hungry any time soon!
This is a young heron on my video, about three or four months old. It has flown from the island on to the public footpath and is unperturbed by pedestrians walking close by. I didn't know what it had seen when it stopped. I was surprised when it lifted its head with a rat in its mouth. They are lightning quick at snatching their prey.
Brilliant to see d heron stalking u can't beat being out in nature watching animals and all wildlife my favourite pass time 👌

Send it to Washington DC and start at the top!
Nah, Mar-A-Lago.
Oh oh edgy banter!
Eat the other Biden 🤣
😂😂
Now if I could only replace our feral cats with this bird, that would be AWESOME! 🦔
🦖
Have seen them eat rats ( remember rats are also same family as squiirels minus bushy tail ) Heron are the main reason baby ducklings are eaten and geese -If only they would stick to fish lol Seriously they have to eat since there is no supermarket .for wildlife .However what gets me is 80% of the public will love this yet be reviled were it a seagull since seagulls have a rotten press .Well filmed .My comment is for the" cute brigade " 👍🐀
Thanks Helena. I"m always amazed at the speed at which they can snatch their prey. They're impressive hunters but I think the rat should have spotted the danger.
@@wildwings9104 It looks like a youngster .You certainly had your eyes open and on spotting the Heron saw that one thing does really lead to another .:)

Rat. Its what's for dinner.
Never ate no rat but I hear bats are ok taste like mouse only mouser
Try watching seagulls eating rabbits
Mouse
We are more like the rat. Not so much like the heron.
Who hangs yonder on my beak o death?
Yonder means "at some distance" or "over there" so if it is "on my beak" it can hardly be yonder.
