Exclusive 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Full Review & Drag Race w R1T & Hummer - Jason Cammisa on the ICONS
In this world-exclusive comprehensive First Review of the Tesla Cybertruck, Jason Cammisa tests Tesla’s Cyberbeast - in acceleration, handling, maneuverability, dent-resistance, and safety - and races it down the ¼-mile against the Rivian R1T Quad-Motor AWD and GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Pickup.

No episode of the multiple award-winning series “ICONS” would be complete without a full helping of comedy, two side dishes of crazy action, and a cast of supporting characters. In this case, the latter incudes a 1988 Lamborghini LM002, a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, a Ford Lightning, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV Pickup!
Special guest appearances include Hall-of-Fame race-car driver Randy Pobst and "Engineering Explained" host Jason Fenske.
Cammisa explains the engineering behind Tesla's controversial pickup truck, including its stainless-steel ("HFS") exoskeleton construction, enormous aluminum castings and structural battery pack. He attends a live side-impact crash test in Tesla's Crash Lab that demonstrated how tough the skin is. And then, of course, tries to dent it with a sledgehammer. Or BFH, for those who know.
The similarities with the DeLorean go way beyond the stainless exterior - in fact, the Cybertruck most closely resembles the famed Lamborghini LM002 pickup - a V12-powered dogleg 5-speed off-roader, dubbed "Rambo Lambo," that was as fast as a sports car. In fact, Jason reads an excerpt from the original Car and Driver magazine review of the LM002, and everything said applies directly to the Cybertruck.
Including that the Cybertruck Cyberbeast is the quickest-accelerating pickup truck in history. Watch as it leaves the previous champion (the Rivian R1T) for dead, hitting 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and blasting through the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 119 mph. Cammisa reran the test on untreated (non-VHT) asphalt and got the same numbers - and marvels at how consistently the Cybertruck accelerated. Even with the Battery SoC in the mid-30-percent range after hours of consecutive runs, it still hit 60 in 2.6 seconds, and had only lost 0.3s at the quarter mile.
That newfound consistency is partially due to the new 4680 Gen 2 batteries, which are far larger than Tesla's previous 18650 and 2170 batteries, and are manufactured in-house.
The Cybertruck is nearly twice as efficient as the Hummer EV, thanks to a Lotus-like obsession with efficiency. With a battery pack of just 123 kWh, it's expected to receive an EPA Range of over 310 miles.
And the Cybertruck is even lighter than the Rivian R1T, Hummer, and Lightning - Cammisa weighed them all.
CURB WEIGHT:
Cybertruck Cyberbeast 6717 lb
Rivian R1T Quad-Motor AWD 6777 lb
Ford F-150 Lightning 6813 lb
GMC Hummer EV First Edition 9316 lb
Lamborghini LM002 6499 lb (with 20 gallons of fuel)
Of course, don't miss Randy Pobst in a kart chasing the Cybertruck around Sonoma Raceway's Go-Kart track - or the sight of the LM002 leaning over like it's about to roll down Sonoma's famed Carousel. Or Jason backing into a stainless steel refrigerator because the Cybertruck's rear visibility is so compromised.

this video is a great paid promo piece for Tesla.
It sooooo UGLY
THIS EPISODE IS PRESENTED BY CYBERFLOP THE MOST USELESS TRUCK EVER INVENTED
CT isn't using mud tires, it's AT tires. The Hummer is 3 seconds 0-60, near half a second more than the CT, but in the video it wasn't in the launch mode (WFT), what can be confirmed by the suspension height. It also appears to launch considerably earlier than the Rivian. CT don't need any of this to be superior.
@11:35 - Steer by Wire is also on the Lexus RZ450.
Though believed to be incredibly dangerous, you don't in fact need to wear safety glasses around whiteboards. 😘 Appreciate you having me, Jason, unbelievable production!!
Two of the very best and most amazing channels on KZhead. Loved seeing you appear in this video, Jason.
Hahahahah
Are you kidding me? Didn't chalk dust ever get into your eye? It hurts like hell...
Are you the guy that said Tesla semi is impossible?
Always great to see a guest appearance by Jayson.
Incredible production, as always. Love how Jason didn’t mention payload capacity, bed size, towing capacity. They know buyers won’t use the Cyertruck as a truck😂
I'm only here coz it popped up in my recommendations, but in the flood of cybertruck content I've watched today, this kinda stands out. I'm sure a full review will come once they have a production unit in hand.
This truck will be the ultimate statement piece. The only people that will drive this are ones that want to be noticed or be looked at.
Sooooo....like most every truck buyer out there.
It is higher than all the other EV trucks. Done.
They're a drag racing channel. They probably aren't Truck experts. Besides it crushes the Ford F350 in towing. You will have to wait a bit for more stuff on actual truck things but it will come.
Take a solid car journalist (JC) who does his home work ( better than anyone else's review by a mile) and you get a detailed review with some fantastic camera work. That was outstanding!
This channel has the best video production of any car channel on the entire internet. Watch their Lucid vs. Tesla Plaid video. The video editing in that one is almost surreal, I've watched it many times. They get the sound effects correct (not fake sound effects) and the editing is so seamless and smooth that it never looks like video editing. It generally takes them 4 months to make one single episode.

The production quality of the video is off the charts. I don't remember when was the last time I watched a 30 mins KZhead video without skipping 80% of it. So well written, from the explanation of engineering behind the cybertruck to the subtle and well timed jokes.
Have you watched it with the CC on ? Its a hidden gem
Until I read what you wrote I hadn't even realised it was that long! I was like no, that must've been 20 minutes, tops!
You need to look harder.

I have watched this at least six times. I have watched the other two as well by MKBHD and Top Gear (not as many times). This video by Jason Camissa is bar far the best, most thorough, and well -presented Cybertruck review on the internet. Thanks Jason and Hagerty!
Look at how many views MKBHD got on his significantly worse Cybertruck video...
Top gear is useless unless you’re just looking for an agenda 😂😂
While I can’t call Jason a friend, I met him back in 2011 when he drove and wrote in Automobile Magazine about my 1991 Peugeot 405 mi16 | “The Last Tango from Paris” Automobile, Nov ‘11 | and I can tell you two obvious character traits about the man: 1.) He truly loves cars and knows the good from the bad. And 2.) He’s a creative force of nature and cannot be bought, so you may be sure that what you see here is the straight dope. Well done!! A break out moment for Jason, his squad, and the biggest tech breakthrough since the 1955 Citroen DS.
Lets just take moment to acknowledge that they have a DMC12, a Cybertruck prototype and an LM002, all in the same place for this video. That alone is incredible.
Throw enough money around and you can pretty much put any object together with another object. What feat is incredible here?
@@kyleoates6367 the fact that they did, find people who would and could?, let's appreciate through whatever method, we are still catered to.

Best Cybertruck review so far! Nice work!!
Pit this against your own humvee
It'll get stuck going off road, which is why they reviewed a pickup truck on a race track and gave no towing or payload information. I like Jason, but he needs to stick to cars and suv's. It'll be just as off road capable as most half tons. Basically dirt roads. I do not understand why they compared this to the Hummer EV.
They took two of these to the Baja race track doing off-road testing. It’s hilarious to assume that Tesla goes “whoops we forgot to test off-road performance!”
100%
However, can’t wait for Zach to get his hands on a Cybertruck!
Never seen such good flow of thoughts in a video .. brilliant imagination to compile it all .. every single minute is worth watching .. the video is as good as the Cybertruck
Overall, the comment section reflects a highly positive response to the video, praising its production quality, entertainment value, and informative content.
This felt like the closest thing I've watched to 'Old Top Gear' since the trio left. Absolutely fantastic in every respect!
Not wrong , very close . Jason is top notch
This is way better than any Top Gear. There's humour, entertainment, slick production, topical content and, most importantly, it's informative. As usual, JC extols great engineering rather than dismissing it for a cheap joke. Top Gear: watch & learn!
Hagerty has the cast of characters, and more importantly genuine care, knowledge and experience, to pull that off. I’d be up for a Hagerty “top gear”
Except truck is junk
On one of the old episodes they basically built something that looked similar to this😂
I never wanted this video to end. Production is off the charts

I heard a Tesla podcaster today say that "Hagerty is maybe the best KZhead editing he's seen." That's a gross understatement. This is the best video editing, ever. The special effects are constant, and sometimes subtle, and the audio is constantly being edited and spliced in, and there's so much editing that it's basically a Hollywood level production every single time. Today I heard Jason say that it takes them about 4 months to finish a single video, because of the planning and post-editing involving. The Tesla Plaid vs. Lucid Air video has some of the most beautiful video editing I've ever seen in any video period.
Coming from this NASA electrical engineer: You and your production team are in a league of your own, setting the bar higher and higher. You're spoiling us!! Also, thank you for not making a speedbump out of Randy.
This video should be used for Tesla. This is literally one of the most informative and insightful videos out there on EVs.
the craziest part of this video for me was I never realized how insane the tires on the LM002 are
At one time, they cost US$1K each and were only available from Pirelli. Could be wrong. I often am.
345x60x17 of insanity!
They look so perfectly sized
I believe they were the first tire in the Pirelli Scorpian line, and we're developed especially for the LM...which is the only vehicle that used them
The original tires were designed to give LMoo2 float in the deserts of the middle east. Lamborghini originally designed pitched the LM002 as a military vehicle for Saudi Arabia
This video should've premiered at the cybertruck delivery event, it'd be a bomb.

@@2020_Hyundai_Prophecy_Concept It's not as customizable. most pickup trucks you can modify easily to adjust for the job you need to use it for. like a different bed or something. Also it's dual cab, so not as much cargo space as a single cab truck, which is way more useful for actual truck work. They didn't do any trucking in this video. They only compared the trucks based on sport car terms... So yes, among all the pickup trucks, the cybertruck is the best sports car...
@@2020_Hyundai_Prophecy_Concept Not on towing and payload weight and capacity, and the bed isn't much different from most modern pickups. Definitely like a cuddly Clarkson! They need to bring Rutledge in also, the only guy I liked from the American Top Gear. Randy does a great tame racing driver, barely! 9:30 you can't double dip on the higher voltage advantage. Either you make the cables smaller or increase the efficiency. If you decrease the cable size then you are decreasing the resistance and therefore increase losses. There is still some overall advantage to both but it isn't just the best of both worlds. Also with EVs, higher voltage is not always more efficient. All of the switching components, e.g. your inverters, have higher switching losses at higher voltages. In general, the only main benefit of higher voltage comes with charging since charging has the highest currents and charging cables are mostly current limited. 10:15 48V isn't as common because it is just not that easy. Most car electronics don't even operate on 12V but on 3.3-5V (microcontrollers, CAN, logic gates, etc). Switching from 12V to 3.3/5V is relatively straight forward, but gets much less efficient and bulky at 48V. Additionally, higher voltages = more magic black smoke if you put the wrong voltage in the wrong place, so you need larger protection circuits and more caution as well. 11:25 what about the Lexus RZ 450e? Pretty sure that came with steer by wire first.
Yes, this isn't the first steer by wire and not even the first 48v car. This video is very promotional in my opinion and they didn't really address the limited functionality and range.
Firstly when did production quality of KZhead videos exceed Television? I can't stand pickup trucks, but in all frankness what Tesla have achieved here is impressive, think I will test drive a Model 3.
I had no idea what I was getting in for this video… This is an absolute masterpiece!! Everything from the production, to the dad, jokes, to the technical understanding of the engineering and perspective at the grandscale of the Automotive landscape, wow!! THANK YOU!!!

Did entire Hollywood get together and made this video? How ? When? damn probably one of the best car review videos ever made!
Very special thank you for the 21:9 ratio content.
Congrats on getting this out so quickly Jason and all involved, must have been a huge effort
Extraordinary production quality.
Oddly, 100+ others did too because my YT Feed is filled with it. Embargo
Advertisement, an entertaining advertisement.
Damn, that refrigator is dope and hes not doing any mistakes😢
Y'all definitely have the best editor's and host's in the world!!! Hagerty is killing it!!!
I've watched this full episode at least 3 times, the combination of Cybertruk and Jason Cammisa is highly entertaining and informative.
You have done a brilliant job with this production. Easily the best video on the Cybertruck!
16:38 I was listening audio only and I swear that was Bill Nye..😂😂
😂
Just rewatched without looking - 100% true 😂
That's the first truck review I've seen that never showed or mentioned the truck bed, towing, hauling, or the primary reasons why trucks are built.
That’s because it’s not actually a truck. It’s a yuppie toy.
This review felt like a movie made by Chris Nolan. Well made. Bravo!
19:54 There was frontal crash tests at the point of release for this video.. which were quite shocking due to the hard structure not absorbing any energy. Basically making the passengers take all of the impact.Kind of makes me question other praising facts of the video
I'm truly impressed. I honestly thought this vehicle would probably never see production, or if it did it would look little like its concept - and certainly perform well below expectations. This is quite an extraordinary achievement.
You should know never to bet against Elon Musk.
It's a bold design, a truck that is useless as a truck. The target audience must be Tesla fanboys that have no need or use for a truck but want to playact as truck people, how big could that audience be?
Useless as a truck yet it holds a sheet of 4x8 plywood in its bed with the back down. Are you a democrat? Why the animosity?
@@AldoVanucci1966How many truck buyers actually use them as a "truck" in the first place?
It has an 11,000 lb Towing capacity. How much does your soy powered two door tow?
Jason, you, hagerty, Randy, are creating a new vibe in the community that’s becoming a thing in the car culture. Please please and please, don’t stop making these videos. For a long time, I haven’t been this excited about a new KZhead release… Since Top Gears days… As many have mentioned, unf******* believable production. I now want a cybertruck. Ever since the Gtr video you guys made, I knew you guys were onto something. 🙏🏻
🙄
You'd better check you are not pregnant as well Jasonlo after watching that ... just sayin '
Your language was a little vulgar and really not necessary. 5:29 Pam 5:40
Came here just give props to Jason Cammisa on some of the other interviews/podcasts i have seen in the last few days where he talked about facts vs opinions. It was a joy to listen to someone that does his best to get the facts separated from opinions and keeps space to consider he might be wrong and adapts or looks into 'facts' others bring up. Even if he fails and creates a 'gotcha' moment. If only more of the press and/or people where like this instead of hiding behind 'my feelings' which most of the time means i write clickbate s*** to get the clicks and make some money. I would advice others here to watch some of his guest appearances on other podcasts. Now i am not much of a car guy anymore and my fav. car is still a the Citroen DS second gen around 1970's timeframe but i am biased for sure since my dad worked for the citroen car company for +50 years. No idea what Hagerty was since i am in the netherlands and i move about on my bicycle most if the time but respect for hiring this guy and giving him space to give masterclasses on how you split facts from feelings as best as he can.
every car review should be like this
Best Cybertruk debut video out there by a mile... it ain't even close. Y'all crushed this one... good work.
yeah why was the exposure in mkbhds video so baaad xD
Jesus, just incredible production. Insanely good. Cameo appearance from Jason at Engineering explained, Randy and finally Camissa's killing the presentation.......I could go on and on. Well done. Just a new standard all round.
Phenomenal review! You covered so much and explained it all so well!
American Clarkson. I love it. Thank you Jason.
Are we going to ignore the fact that the Cybertruck hit a full-sized refrigerator at a considerable speed, and didn't even leave a mark? that was pretty impressive.
Pretty sure any truck with an actual bumper could do the same. Trucks frequently hit cars causing lots of damage while the truck hasn't got a scratch on it.
Even full of beers it will
@@ericmichel3857no lol. A refrigerator weighs like 140 lb.
@@ericmichel3857 yea but it’s also bullet proof
I was going to assume it was CGI, notably the top-edge of the rear lights would feel that impact. While CGI can and will get that good, I can't really claim they would put that much effort into 4s of a gag with no further point for the video... or maybe they did, or they just didn't hit it hard enough to bounce off of the top of that hatch. The sounds feels added on for sure though.
This is in fact the pinnacle of automotive journalism. Well done Jason and team.
Don't Forget Randy Pobst! Super Man!
More like Elon Blowjoberism. Still, I agree!- Very well done!!
Couldnt have said it any better myself.
Sheet. The crap he spouts makes me taste bile. 48V in a crash will make an awesome fire if it doesn't electrocute you. So easy to arc. Wait till 800 volts brake loose!. Drive by wire has been used for decades in so many industries. Nothing new there either. Try to move it without the batteries on, good luck. His maneuvering on the race track in front of the little go kart while he was running over all the curves to cut his straight line. I hope my insurance rates won't have to pay for an exoskeleton dent that will almost write off the the safety of the vehicle.
This was paid content... Produced by tesla themselves.
Best video editing ever! 👏🏼
Wow, Unbelievable production quality. This vehicle needs a car review and tech review combined and you really exceeded expectations here.
This is more than just a normal car reviews. Purely great production 🔥 Cheers for putting so much effort into making these contents.
That is an epic production. Possibly the best car (truck) presentation I have ever seen. Thank you for this tremendous effort. Hint to other viewers - turn on the subtitles - lots of fun extra info.
too bad it isn't actually a functional truck.
@@michaelfried3123Michael, are still short TSLA?
@@michaelfried3123 What are you on my guy? It is the most functional electric truck and perhaps the most functional truck ever made.
@@lachlanB323 at 100k, literally 99.5% of Americans also can't afford it.
@@lighthousesaunders7242 I don't gamble my hard earned money in a rigged stock market. so nope.
In my time on youtube since it started, this is the best production video I've ever seen.
Brilliantly created pieces of arts - both the Cybetruck and your amazing review ! Bravo Jasson.
The quality level of this video is unbelievable. This is the best produced, best edited, and top notch informative content. Well done!
best cybertruck video made👍
other than the thumbnail. doesn’t do a justice of the video production and lacks behind the couple other channels that got the exclusive reviews. It almost looks like those other channels giving compilations with a voiceover. I hope they change the thumbnail ❤
It could be the best produced, best edited, and top notch informative, well done content of a terd but I'm still not buying the terd. The truck is ridiculous looking, like a concept vehicle drawn by a grade schooler.
@@user-cp9lz9pt8b In the video he said Tesla already has over 1 million pre-orders, so apparently many people like it.
🙄
This video was a straight up sifi movie without any CGI needed. The Cybertruck never looked so good.
Thoroughly entertaining and informative. Well done Jason, Randy and team.
Half an hour that just flew by. This Cybertruck review is a work of art.
This feels like watching a world class director make a world class movie. Outstanding artistic quality
Just started watching your channel (where have I been?!) GREAT production value!
Bro you, yourself, is the cyrbertruck of car reviewers! The way you and your team do the job is at another league. Hats off for you🎉🎉🎉
