Join me as I set off on another epic tank build. This time the incredible 1/6 scale Hetzer or Jagdpanzer 38 tank by Armortek.
In this video - I will assemble both of the Sprocket wheels and idler wheels ahead of getting ready to paint all the elements before installation to the tank.
Hope you enjoy

I love waiting with anticipation for these videos
I appreciate how consistent Tony is with posting these every Friday, 7PM EST, bowl of popcorn and a cold beer and it's Tony's Workshop time!
Thank you, hope you continue to follow.
Hello Tony , I can't wait until you start painting the tank elements to see what colors you chose, I personally like the colors in the desert camouflage of German tanks from World War II, thx for next amazing video 😉
Thanks Daniel, much appreciated. I have chosen my paint scheme and I go over this in the next Vid.
,ok, I'm waiting for the next episode with curiosity@@tonys_workshop
Although such simple items, there's a lot of work gone into these wheels, very nice job. These other projects in the pipeline, would one be a 6th scale model of The Tank Museums main hall so you can display these beauties 😆
Thanks Martin. Yes, I really have to come up with a solution for storing these bad boys🤣
Looks like you had a wheelie good time there Tony.... I'll get my coat 😂 have a great weekend buddy.
😂 Thanks Russ, and you also have a great weekend.
There are always fiddly bits to be done Tony. Soldier on old mate and at the end of a couple of sessions, voila! all those fiddly bits become part of a whole. Enjoying this, regards from Aussie and stay out of the weather if possible.
Hi Christopher and regards from the UK. Thank you and this is my favourite part of the build, because as you say, it is all the smaller parts that when combined makes the model what it is. Back to our traditional wet and grey weather here...but great tank building time😀
Tony: I enjoy the slow pace and how methodically you discuss each step and how best to go about putting them together.
I think so too. It's fun to look ahead and think about your own process of what to do now! 私もそう思います。先を見越して今何をやるべきか自分なりの工程を考えることは、楽しいですね!
Thanks Bill, your continued support is keeping me going. Have a great weekend.
Excellent work as always sir, quality shining through as always. I like to watch the Armortek video's of how they make their kits. Something about the Hetzer but I just love it ,paint going to look good on it could do ambush pattern .
Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I have gone for one of the many camo schemes, video up next week on that. I absolutely love this Hetzer and it presents different challenges in the build from what I have done before.
What a great start into Saturday when there is a new video! I really enjoy watching this build! Maybe I could suggest to make the music not this loud when doing the fast forward?
Thank you. I will speak with my son about adjusting the volume on the edit.
You may have corrected this already but the sprocket teeth need to be lined up on both sides. One looks ok but the one you showed on it's side has the teeth half-way out from the other side so that side will need to be taken off and re-aligned or the tracks will not engage. Best way I found is to use a track link and make sure the teeth line up with it. I am at least partially responsible for the steel replacements as I destroyed the aluminium ones on mine during three days of running at Tankfest :-) I also remembered why you can install the locking bushes after mounting the hubs - when you put the wheels one they will drop down until the tracks are added which then holds them against the leaf springs. This way it solves any clearance issue with the roadwheel fitting between the sprocket.
Hi Daniel, well spotted. I discovered that shortly after I stopped filming. Rectified now. I wondered why the sprocket rings had markings on...of course this is to ensure they align. I have seen your journey on the forum, so hats off to you for driving this important change. I always make up at least 20 track links to ensure the sprocket engages correctly and to help with alignment. I will be attempting the sprocket mount today so the experience you had and posted will be invaluable. Thank you.
Excellent work, Tony. A lot of time and effort. Seeing the price you paid, I would have invested in a large Ultrasound cleaner. An appropriate size cleaner would cost you around $250 USD. The device would have saved many hours of work. During the assembly process, I would have worn latex gloves to prevent any body oil from getting on the parts. I'll have to go back and watch the episodes I missed.
Thank you and thanks also for watching and commenting. I must admit, I do like handling the parts when cleaning as I really admire the engineering that goes into the manufacturing of these kits. Gloves can work, however handling the smaller parts becomes tricky. I use barrier cream, which helps with cleaning your hands afterwards and also provides that barrier when handling the parts. Hope you continue to watch and follow my builds.
Hi Tony. Thank you for getting back to me. I was unaware of the 'barrier cream' you mentioned. I will do a BING search to learn more. My Ultrasound cleaner is great for removing the mold release agent from my plastic scale model parts. I have to close now so I can watch more of your videos. I wish you a happy and productive day.@@tonys_workshop
As always, I'm enjoying the build Tony. Looking forward to completing my Stug then on to the next one. Cant help but notice the lack of info coming from Armortek these days.
Thank you. I absolutely love the Stug. What are you going on to next?
I'm waiting to see what their next release is going to be. They've been quiet lately and no factory open day this year. I'd like to have a go at a half track or something soft skinned, like a truck. Keep up the good work.@@tonys_workshop
I quite like the look of their 1950 SERIES 1 ...Totally different from what I am building.
Morning Tony, Great video ,when you going to spill the beans on the colour of the camouflage. Seen a 3 colour camouflage with black dots everywhere, which is easily done with a black sharpie and then sealed with matt varnish.
Morning Steve, thank you. next video shows where I am going with the paint scheme. Took me a long time to decide, but happy with where I am going now. I have seen that scheme, but didn't consider the sharpie pen thing...what a good idea...too late for that as I have started painting. Video up next week. Have a good weekend.
@@tonys_workshop and you and the family too ,can't wait to see the colour
Very envious, seen people running these tanks at various events down at Bovington. Always wanted one but sadly don’t have the funds or the space to store one.
Hi and thank you for watching and commenting. Yes these are expensive and you do need the space to build them and store them. I would say that if you ever did get the opportunity, speak with Armortek, as they do have various payment options. If you do get a chance to buy and build one, you would not regret it.Hope you continue to follow my progress. Best regards, Tony.
I love what you are doing. But wouldn't cleaning be easier to clean the parts with a tooth brush in a tub of of spirits????
Thank you. Maybe, but I like to clean with these wipes as I love handling the parts and they come up really nice. Hope you continue to watch and follow.
Thanks Tony. When you’re cleaning parts - in prep for paint, do you use alcohol wipes? If you noted that in the vid, sorry. 😊
Hi John, I tend to use UltraGrime PRO wipes. These are great for removing grease, oils etc. Hope this helps.
Hope its has the correct number of teeth on the drive sprocket unlike Armortek's Stug 111 never been so disappointed on opening that kit and finding that out , it must be as expensive to cast the part correct as it is wrong oh well you know what they say "a fool and his money is soon parted "😢
Hi, yes it did. I have had no problems like that other than minor machining issues etc. Did you get replacements from AT?
This is the way it was designed having 1 less tooth on the sprocket makes the track links way to wide there are plenty of other mistakes on this kit , drivers visor is another pet hate , it should have been sold as an 'artists interpretation of a Stug 111 parts are not to scale , this is a toy'
Sounds like you have a nightmare on that kit. Have you informed AT?

Wow, what a mission! What's the s
Hi, I would answer your question, but only a part of your question is shown.
Mate if you can some pipe cleaner might come in handy?
Now that is a good idea. I will try that and thank you. Not seen these for sale since the 1980's😂...perhaps Amazon is a good place to look.
String with rag tied to it. Pull through?
Tobacconist ?
