  • The water bugs: I had one land on my arm in Houston Texas when I was visiting, around 1970. I stared at it a second - I was only used to June bugs and Praying mantis in that size range. The thing was about 2"-2-1/2" long, and unlike those critters, this one bit me!! My arm swelled up like a balloon, and this was before we had reliable easy to access antihistamines. Hurt like the devil. I smacked it off my arm and it flew away, apparently unconcerned. They aren't just nightmares. If they land on something organic, they will bite!!
